Moon shot missle 1.5.5
Pocket Sized replied to zxarkov's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I fail to see how this is an issue, missiles have a LOT of potential energy in their rocket motors. Without air resistance they definitely go like a bat out of hell. -
Yeah, for some reason I was under the impression the AIM-9L was worse than the P5, oops.
-
That's not how it works. ED has access to a developer build of the Viggen. They play with it and when they decide it's finished enough to release, presto it's out and all of our wallets become a bit lighter. You can't compare the Spit and the Viggen. Up until LN's trailers I'm fairly certain there were more people on the edge do their seat for the Spit than people who knew what a Viggen was.
-
Anyone know how the Viggen's sidewinders will compare to the AIM-9P5?

Pocket Sized replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I'd be surprised if the Viggen is any less feature complete than the F-5 on initial release. Probably a bit less incomplete from what I've heard. -
WWII carrier ops? I want in just as soon as I get the Viggen hype out of my system.

Devs mentioned 18 degrees AoA, generally speaking among jet engines high throttle settings make compressor stalls more violent. -
That sounds a lot like your FBW is in fixed gain mode, either through improper startup or some sort of bug. Maybe your pitot heat was off and it confused the FBW?
-
Yes. It's a very lightweight, early radar system. It has no look down shoot down capability and has a very short detection range due to its low power. You need to be at or slightly below the target and close enough to pick them up on radar (less than 20 miles or so). If the target is far above you, the antenna has to be driven up using the radar elevation control.

The internal gun ammo is off center and the plane is balanced when the gun ammo is full. Without gun ammo the plane will roll slowly to the right. That in itself isn't a bug, but some are questioning if the roll should be as large as it is.

I hate to continue the SOI/SPI talk but... I like to think of them as two totally separate things. Sensor of interest is the display/sensor your HOTAS controls are currently assigned to. Sensor POINT of interest is an imaginary point in space that all of the airplanes sensors can interpret. A temporary waypoint, if you will. "You set the SPI with your SOI" is kinda confusing IMO because it makes something obvious seem not so obvious. If you set a SPI that means you're already controlling something capable of setting SPI, therefore you don't have to worry about it. Or something. You wouldn't say "grab that hammer and hit the nail... with the tool you're currently holding in your hand" because it's a bit superfluous and implies that maybe you aren't specifically referring to the hammer...

There seems to be a lot of confusion over this little Swedish cylinder of magic to the right of the HUD. Basically, it makes an illusion that gives a screen much bigger than would fit in such a small package. To the eye it looks like a relatively big screen mounted some distance behind the opening of the sight. If you want to see the whole thing you must move your head around or move closer, much like a HUD. In the sight will be the usual maverick crosshairs/aiming cross, and because we will get the B maverick, likely the corners that show if it's zoomed or not. (There may be other symbology that I'm not aware of) (Somewhere in the depths of the Viggen discussion thread there is a much more detailed explanation including actual measurements and optical diagrams but ain't nobody got time for that)
-
I think I could have explained it better... If your left MFCD has your targeting pod displayed and is SOI, both your left MFCD and your targeting pod are SOI. Which one you use to express that is up to you. I tried to simplify things by saying "there's only 3 possible SOI's" but I messed up and made things more confusing

Not really, as it still serves as a general discussion area for things that don't deserve their own threads.

***DCS: AJS-37 Coming to DCS: World!***
Pocket Sized replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
The golden question we're all wondering: When? I am going to be overly optimistic and say before christmas. I think it fits the info we already had and the stream seemed to enforce it further... I think. "Announcement week" implies this will be the time full of videos and streams about the viggen. But it doesn't imply or rule out anything involving a release. For all week know they could party for a week then slam the doors with a sign that says "see you in 2017!" -
Holy... Apparently LN knew what they were doing with their hype schedule. I've never seen a single forum section have nearly 700 active viewers at the same time
-
Stream is LIVE and scheduled to begin in 7 minutes.
-
I say the HUD is SOI in that scenario because you're controlling symbology on the HUD alone. Personally I think of SOI as either HUD or one of the MFD's. You just so happen to be controlling what that display is showing. In other words, there are only 3 options for SOI at any given instant. That's all there is to it.
-
I'm hoping they cut to the chase (aka cockpit footage) pretty quickly as I'd rather not spend too long watching the stream in class :D
-
Between the YouTube tags put only the video ID (the jumble after watch= )
-
IIRC all flashing has something to do with making contact? I remember them all doing something when I finished the transfer but I can't remember if they all flashed.
-
You're not setting the AIM-9 as SOI you're setting the HUD as SOI. This gives you control over seeker cage/uncage + manual slew. If you do it right you can acually shoot targets a few dozen degrees above boresight :P

After F-18 release, what do u want more - fulcrum or viper?
Pocket Sized replied to SandMartin's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would prefer a MiG-29. The Hornet and Falcon share a LOT of weapons and capabilities, but they're two completely different aircraft and would take similar amounts of time to develop. I love the Fulcrum despite the fact that I know nearly nothing about it. I think it's the looks... -
I find it funny how the sub forum is being viewed by 40-60 people yet the thread is no more active than usual
