Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
MadTommy replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
The original post in icemakers thread is from an old version of DCS. if you read further into the thread you will see people saying it does not work in the latest version and then a updated fix by someone else. Its PITA when DCS change code and unfortunately users don't update their guides... (hint hint) here is the upto date fix.. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1254646&postcount=116 Post 116 in that thread. -
Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)

Here is my RWR file that works. AN_ALR69V_init.lua -
As the title says.. I'm looking for a good source for free sound samples to help in mission building. I am presently using http://www.freesound.org but am not overly impressed with it. Its ok.. but i bet there are better sources out there. Thanks for any help. Doesn't help that freesound.org web site is down as i write this.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)

You cant pause the flight.. you have to quit the flight. Make the changes then click flay again. This saves you having to restart the game, but you can't make changes without quitting the actual flight. I hope this make sense. -
Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)

Probably not.. editing on the fly works when editing the multimonitor file only..and this comment was added before it was possible to add RWR, CDUs etc, adding these require other files to get working, so this line might be misleading when working with those. It certainly used to work fine when just dealing with the MFCDs. There have been probably 8 versions of a-10c since I originally wrote this, and even though i have regularly updated it.. this line may now be inaccurate. Thanks for highlighting this, I'll edit the 1st post. -
I actually find A10c easier than Blackshark. One thing for sure is i can't play more than one DCS game.. just scrambles my brain / not enough time for soo many complex controls / systems.. Played FC then FC2 then BlackShark now A-10c... no way i could play 2 or 3 of them.. which is a shame. I was however pleasantly surprised i could get in the pit after a month or so away.. was like riding a bike, just a rather complex one!

Defiantly no big deal, and I'm certainly not worked up about it, however there is a significant difference between expressing ones opinion and the two posts that followed mine. Disagreeing is not telling someone to stop nagging or beating a dead horse. But thanks for your opinion. ;)
-
Excuse me, there was me thinking this was a discussion forum. Its called expressing ones opinion, not 'nagging'. I stated my opinion once and responded to a quote once. Allow people to express themselves, gez. As i said earlier its great to have a new terrain, i just wish it was a combat environment. Don't like differing opinions, tough.
-
I agree it is realistic to be flying training missions. Most pilots never fly in a combat environment. But this is a game...that i play for my enjoyment. Personally i have zero interest in flying training missions. I have never loaded my A10 with training ordinance and i never will. I agree that 'Stan with Russian tanks would be no better. But a new combat environment with an appropriate OPFOR would be my wish, not Nevada. I'd be happier with a fictional location with a fictional OPFOR, better yet would be a Iran/North Korea scenario.... training exercises simply has no appeal to me. But what OPFOR can you realistically have be on the Nevada map?
-
I totally agree. I think its great, and very badly needed to have new terrain, but continental US is certainly not what i want. Not to take anything away from the folk making it. But a terrain where only training can be done in a realistic scenario is pretty disappointing considering we have had the same combat terrain for so may years now. Just gonna have to pretend its not Nevada i suppose. Considering i'll be getting it for free as a beta user i'm not complaining.. just wish it had been a realistic combat environment. Well.... not really understanding what Red Flag is about or how it will be implemented in DCS I don't understand what Nevada will add apart from the terrain itself.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
MadTommy replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Fakum, i think you are making this more complicated than it needs to be. I suppose i don't understand why you can't make the left monitor the primary monitor in windows / gfx gui and use it for your MFCD and the non primary monitor, your right one, for your cockpit. This way you get the results you desire in game and the only difference out of game is where your taskbar is.. is that really a problem? If you manage to get it working with your right monitor as the primary one pls let me know, but as far as i know this simply does not work. -

No not using it. But you are misunderstanding the 'primary' monitor thing.. it has nothing to do with which way around they are physically or which one has the cockpit on it. The primary monitor has to be on the left. If you are not willing to make your left one the primary monitor afaik you will not get it working. -
Great guide... but what you list as suitable for light to medium armour always destroys the heaviest armour in the field. Mk-82, GBU-38, GBU-12, AGM-65D/H. Also the CBU-97/87 are very effective against groups of mobile targets.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
MadTommy replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
It does not matter if the big or small one is on the right or left or if the cockpit or mfcd is on the left or right.. what is important is the 'primary' monitor is on the left. There is always one primary monitor.. the easy way to tell which it is is .. its the one with the Taskbar & Windows menu on. I'd hoped & you should only need to read the 1st post.. that was its intent! :P -
Large MP & SP Mission - "Operation Gander"
MadTommy replied to MadTommy's topic in User Created Missions General
Sorry, I've been very short on time recently, and this mission has turned into a bit of a nightmare. I've managed to get a 2 decent size test run over the last couple of weeks & i hope to fix the issues asap. But in all honesty I've tried to do to much within one mission, the fing AI are doing my head in... they are so unreliable in MP and my trigger system is simply over complicated.. lessons have been learnt. But when testing it has been fun to fly and 95% working well.. just fixing the little issues is a major head ****. I'll see if i can release it this weekend. -

Pretty sure from a lua & performance point of view it will make no difference. Is the top one the 'primary' monitor in windows? -

Ein Name wie kein Name Points you appear to have missed from the guide: Primary monitor in Windows needs to be your left most monitor. Note this is only in Windows and does not need to be physically the left most. x , y coordinates start at 0 from the top left, negative values do not work. Option 1: Switch your monitors around in graphics card / windows control panel and use something like the below. Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 2560; height = 1440; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.7; } } LEFT_MFCD = { x = 2560; y = 0; width = 840; height = 840; } RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 3400; y = 0; width = 840; height = 840; } Option 2: Make the left smaller monitor the Primary monitor and use this. Center = { x = 1680; y = 0; width = 2560; height = 1440; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.7; } } LEFT_MFCD = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 840; height = 840; } RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 840; y = 0; width = 840; height = 840; } These are your 2 options.. -
^^ you should also receive it as a message in the Message screen on the MFCD.. this is very helpful at times :)

Anyone not seen Helios in Action with DCS A10-C

You should just be able to lick on the 'Show' button. Odd if you can't. I'll remove the 'spoiler tag' from it. -

MadTommy replied to Loz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Loz, don't get me wrong I understand your intent, great to show others the potential of these things. I was only commenting my opinion i suppose. I suppose i'd like to have two small touch screens emulating the MFCDs as i do like to have these larger than the default. I presently have them on my 2nd 22" monitor. I just find the clickable cockpit the best option for all the other panels when i comes to immersion & realism. I enjoy looking around the cockpit clicking switches. But i suppose i am being slightly hypocritical as i also have the UFC & CDU also on my 2nd monitor also, my intent there is purely for ease of input. Shown in the image below. PS i am jealous :music_whistling: -

That whole setup while impressive is really not to my liking. Kills immersion not having the cockpit rendered and simulated with helios instead. Love to have infinity setup but i would never use a touch screen in that fashion. For some it clearly adds immersion.. for me it has the complete apposite affect.
