  1. As the poll presently stands, with 29 votes, the largest reason for a password is to keep undesirable behaviour & people out, with 7 votes. There are also 5 votes to get people to join the host's comms system, generally TS or Vent. I suspect these two groups are closely linked. The advantages of all being on comms together are numerous; teamwork, behaviour control; be it enhancing teamwork and hence reducing lonewolfing that can spoil missions, collection of IP address to ban if necessary, building communities & comradeship and generally making it more immersive & fun. If we could encourage the groups who's main reason for the password is to stop antisocial behaviour to try the 'force comms' route that would make a signification % of servers to be semi open, i.e password is available from their TS/Vent. If these hosts can post their comms details in the mission description with an invite to join them we might see an improvement in the MP environment. I'd be interested to hear what the server hosts who voted "Antisocial behaviour by public." option of these thoughts. ** I can't iterate enough that imo server hosts should not be put under any pressure to do want they don't want on their own servers, please understand me on this, these are just ideas on how we can try and improve the MP environment for players & hosts alike **
  2. Cheers Viper, T&T are presently part time, will only become full time with the release of dedi version. (assuming this is regarding server status)
  3. Nice one mate.. so it was in CommandMenu.lua, great find thanks. Why would i need to do that! :P
  4. Yeah will do.. but god knows where it is... i can do just about everything to it except expand the width.. the width does not seem to be controlled by any of the files in the radio folder. :(
  5. I agree, in-game communication is an area that needs MUCH love. Anything to improve it would help greatly in MP.
  6. Thanks a lot mate. yeah.. i've messed about with these files quite a bit in the past..but the menu width (rearm) has me stumped right now. (so i started changing numerous lines trying to id what each section does.. only to find my back up for 0.7 was quite different.
  7. Contains fix for truncated radio rearm menus Trying to resolve a radio menu issue i have screwed up my menu.res file located here... \Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\FUI\Resources\Radio Could someone please post either the file or it contents please, its only small, text in a post will be fine. :) (you can just open it with notepad and copy its contents in a reply) Thanks. (My backup was not from the correct version)
  8. All reasons are legitimate... the host can do whatever they wish in my view. We've been hosting numerous servers for numerous games over the years.. and nothing annoys us more than someone else tells us what we should and shouldn't do with it. Simple as that in my opinion.
  9. Yeah mate, i didn't mean force is a 'bad' way.. but if the password is available on your TS only i kinda assumed the intent was, "please fly with us but you must be on our comms to do so." Something that i think is a very good approach personally.
  10. eh.. why the attitude? I hoped i had made the intent of this clear.. to gain understanding, nothing more nothing less. There is no judgement either way, locked or open.
  11. This poll is solely to help facilitate the present discussion on improving the multiplayer environment in the DCS series. To help understand why they are locked & therefore potentially overcome these to help new comers get into MP. (Definition of locked server: Any server with a password regardless of whether the password is 'available' or not.) Notes: Only one option is available.. please state your primary or most common reason. Antisocial behaviour by public: by this I mean ANY actions you don't want on your server, one end of the spectrum is teamkilling the other is not using teamwork & lonewolfing, everything between these are categorised in this poll as antisocial. Please discuss freely your opinions on the subject.
  12. I understand you disappointment in the MP scene, but what point are you trying to make? Is it: There are not enough people play at this time? As i can't see what else you could be saying, (except just venting, which i understand & sympathise with). There are open servers for you to join and there are private sessions going on. We can't 'make' people play MP so you can have someone to join and we certainly should not be trying to stop people having private sessions. So im at a loss of what you/we could do to change this. Unfortunately the issues are deep rooted as ED have always considered MP to be a minor part of the game. And this has meant the only way to get a good MP game is to at least be associated with a community or group. I'm not saying you should join one.. only that it really is the best way to consistently get a satisfying MP game. There are groups to suite all out there.
  13. How many groups do we have that have servers based in a data centre or have a dedicated box with a decent connection that can host suitably? The figure would appear to be extremely low, i think this number is very important to understand. As it is key to what can be really realised on this subject in my opinion. As any other form of server will only be up sporadically and will most likely only ever be run to the wish of the host at the time of the session. As far as T&T is concerned the best we can say is we'll try to keep our server open as much as possible, (something already do) and we'll make it clear what kind of mission is being run. All we ever ask for is people use teamwork and act with maturity and hopefully join us on TS. Not wanting to go on about it...but without a dedicated exe there is little we can bring to the table. I cannot see us ever agreeing to only run one type/level of mission, but what is expected of people joining us won't fluctuate or change, so we can make this clear at least.
  14. Wow, just wow. How rude & opinionated could one post be is response to someone trying to help. Unless I'm mistaken this thread is about improving the MP environment, in anyway possible, not just your interpretation Tyger. I'm very surprised at the tone and attitude of you post. :(
  15. Personally i love my Arvo Roccat (compact gaming keyboard) It just a compact (without loosing functionality), very good quality keyboard that i can have placed between my throttle & stick. Size for me is what was important, as flight sim accessories seem to clutter your desk very quickly.
  16. T&T would very much like to see MP improved, and will help where possible. However it can't be stated strong enough that the problem with locked servers etc lies 110% at ED's door, not server hosts. Without dedicated exe and built in admin tools i'm not sure what can be done. Sure missions could be named better and servers host should try and open their servers as much as possible. We would have a server up 24/7 & without a password 99% of the time if there was a dedicated exe that we could run on our box.. without that we are reliant upon our one member who has sufficient upload speeds to host a decent size server/mission. Having to run it on his personal PC is a very long way from being suitable. Pressure upon ED to support the MP community further is what is needed.
  17. There were 3 of use.. all flying from day one of the beta, all capable of getting airborne as fast as anyone, being dark makes no difference. However, if i recall one of us had a technical problem so we waited for him to get back online. There is no need to assume we are cretins. :( Yes it is, as you naturally assume these tasks should be done asap, You receive the 1st task.. you start setting your flight up to take on that task, before you have a chance to do that task you receive another, and this pattern repeats itself several times, then you receive a priority tasking... 8 task in 8 minutes.. if i understand your explanation correctly.. to be honest, by this time we were all thoroughly cheesed off with the barrage or messages and voice overs. I never said I didn't like radio chatter and voice overs, i only said the pace was too frantic, 8 tasks in 8 minutes was certainly not to our liking, we prefer to work together on taskings, we don't fly solo. Your 'system' of assigning one pilot to each task and going off solo never occurred to us, and it simply would not appeal. Flying as a group using teamwork is what appeals to us and why we fly multiplayer. I certainly like tough missions.. i'm not saying it should be dumbed down. Personally i would assign a new mission when the previous one had been completed, no need to be waiting around. Having 2 or 3 mission running in parallel is cool, 8 or so is not so, in my personal opinion. I have no military experience.. but i don't believe this was a realistic scenario regarding orders & taskings, it all just seemed over the top. I'm sorry if you only wanted positive feedback, i hoped you would not react as you seemingly have. I was speaking frankly on how we found the mission flying it for the 1st time. (without the knowledge of making the mission or flying it numerous times). You clearly have put alot of effort into this mission, and i am grateful for that, but feedback should be honest.. i could have posted nothing, but personally i'd much prefer the negative feedback to a mission i'd made than have folks who did not enjoy it simply not posting at all. As you said you can't expect to please everyone.
  18. Thanks Speed, appreciate the effort & work. We tried this.. and to be honest we found it's pace a little over the top. I think we had approx. 6 tasks being 'screamed' at us before we were even airborne. With the flashing text & constant voice overs it was somewhat annoying. Sorry to give negative feedback, but i hope you take it as intended, grateful for the mission but as a group we just found the pace of tasks too much. The concept and scripting seemed excellent.
  19. That is what makes it fun!
  20. I'm along way from being a pro.. but.. get the warning from the RWR on your 6 o'clock and bleed the energy from the incoming missile by altering altitude and direction. I tend to climb and weave. But if you are low you can dive and force the missile to hit the ground as it will attempt to predict where you will be at its intercept point.. if this point is below ground level then you are onto a winner! Use this strategy to make the SAM spend its missiles and then kill it when it is relaoding...by this time you should know where it is from the launches.. look for the smoke trails. Having a wingman or two to look for launches is very helpful.. (in multiplayer) I don't play single player.
  21. Thanks for this little bit of info.. make the manual edit much easier!
  22. Here is a threat guide i made.. has a table from PlainSight too. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68182&highlight=threat+guide
  23. Medium scenes also shows buildings.. just less of them. Low turns them all off - High turns them all on.
  24. I have you tried the obvious and reloaded the DSMS page & checked you do have a loadout on the plane. May sound obvious but it has to be asked.
  25. Cheers mate, my main PC is down right now.. so i wont have access to the files for a couple of days.. I'll send it to you as soon as i can. The issue occurs for all the rockers switches on the MFCDs. This problem is not present on the UFC or any other rockers switches I've setup, so i'm little confused by it. Not sure if it is an game issue or a Hawg Touch problem. Thanks.
