They might include more water to the South instead of the land in the North that is considered in this pictures.I am looking forward to see !

Well done Aerges ! Looking forward to get my hands on it !

Thank you @myHelljumper for your steady reports. And of course thank you Razbam for the work. I have been waiting for the terrain avoidance radar and I am so happy that it is finally coming ! I feel like the Mirage2000 is finally near complete. Well done ! Best,

Could you please give more details about your flight ? What altitude ? Was it in a dive ? No loadout I assume ? Still very surprising.

Back in November @Vibora estimated to have the first version in EA in about 6 months, which brings us to the present days. Could we have an updated, approximate ETA based on your advancement schedule ? Like is it for July ? Is it for September ? Is it for December ? 2022 ? Best,

I think this would be great. I would not totally be in favor of implementing an 'auto-AAR' thing, but dedicated training missions, or tools to better visualize the position of your aircraft with respect to the boom/basket, would be a great addition, in my opinion. My idea for an 'auto-AAR' thing would be to have a button that almost blocks your flight controls so that you can only steer your aircraft very gently, a bit like an autopilot. Your speed is locked to the tanker speed +1 knot when you are behind it, and locked to tanker speed when connected. This solution would compensate for the lack of training, or for the bad hardware, as I think they are the predominant causes for players not being able to AAR.

Free Trial June 19th to 25th - Tomcat and Viggen!
MisterVince replied to IronMike's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Remember that these aircraft do not have a flight control system. So you can make it do whatever you want. With the F-14 you took up to 30g, which is comparable to the maximum g-load a missile can take. So it is not surprising that the aircraft breaks. With the Viggen you took a sustained 13g, which is already a lot. So i am not surprised again. In fact you say it's easy to break them but it is because you do not feel the g-force in a simulation. IRL with so much g the pilot would be killed or passed out. -
If I own SC and spawn a Tomcat on the deck, can a RIO who does not have SC join me before I take off ? Or can he only join me after I take off ?
-
I am bad at reading between the lines, but I think he trying not to say that since there is a discount on ED shop, there will be a discount on Steam too, but later.
-
Is the sale lasting until the 25th of June like the F-14/Viggen free trial ? I did not find any information about the sale duration.

Thanks a lot ! I understand better now. I read many times on the hardware related section of the forum that it does not matter if your CPU has 8 cores or more, what matters is the speed of one core. This is explained by the way DirectX11 functions. However, it will not be correct anymore with Vulkan. So with Vulkan, it will be better to have more cores on the CPU rather than having a higher frequency on less cores . I am correct ?
-
Hi here, I have question about Vulkan: What is it ? Will it make the game run more smoothly ? Will it change the way the game looks ? Like 1.5 to 2.0 was a massive improvment in the graphics and my old laptop could not support DCS 2.0 so I had to buy a new one. I ask this because I think about buying a new, better PC, but if Vulkan requires better hardware, I will definitely wait until it's released before buying anything. :)

Heatblur confirmed it will be available on Steam too on their facebook

That looks fun to do ! What is the pitch for climbing from 10km to 20km ? Thanks :)

Thank you HeatBlur !! You are awesome !

... It could be 3h once in a month you know ?... Laser/GPS guided bombs don't require any flying skill. With CCIP, you just have to put the piper on the target... Come on don't tell me that it is as hard as AAR. And planes without CCIP cannot AAR, so your statement makes no sense. Besides if you are bad at bombing, you might miss the target and fail the mission, whereas without "easy AAR", you simply can not take part in the mission if and AAR is planned, period. There is a difference between unlimited fuel and AAR, I will put an example to explain it: With unlimited fuel, you can take max bombs load, take of from one side of the map, bomb targets at the other side of the map and come back for landing: you're good. Mission complete and you never looked at your fuel the entire flight ! With "easy AAR" you still have to manage your fuel, exactly like without "easy AAR" ! You must rendez-vous with the tanker and perform the AAR (in a very simplified way), so you are doing the exact same mission as you would without the "easy AAR". You are just not bothered by the complexity of the refueling part. Although I can understand if you think that both options kill the immersion for you, you can admit that there is a difference. This difference is enough for me to break the immersion for "unlumited fuel". Everyone does not play DCS to fullfill their need for achievments :). They just want to play in a beautiful and realistic environment. It is not a requirement to adhere to a (yours?) specific point of view to play DCS. Everyone has their reasons and it should not be needed to discuss them. It is good that there is a small debate on this topic but most arguments against the idea are basically "if you can't AAR then you should just train and you will be able to AAR" or "unlimited fuel is the same". While it forces us to developp why we would appreciate this feature, which is good if ED reads this, it only relies on subjectiv and personnal opinions. Therefore it does not prove that our arguments are not valid, nor that this wish is unfeasible, useless or would harm the game. I remember AAR in old Lock On: your altitude and speed were locked (speed was just above tanker speed until reaching the basket) and your controls were extremely limited so that you could steer the aircraft towards the basket. It was very difficult to miss the basket and therefore made AAR very easy. After refueling was complete, the controls would unlock. So yes it might not be too difficult for ED. I hope that some day they will make it happen :) EDIT: I would be happy with that too !

I totally disagree with that. The purpose of this topic is to discuss a solution for players who do not want all the difficulty of AAR. It does not mean they do not want the rest to be as realistic as possible !
-
I understand. I must admit it is not totally clear in my head either. Perhaps OP had a precise thought about it. I would imagine the basket following your probe when you come close to it. It worked a bit like this in old Lock On. For me, it does not break the immersion that much, but I think it is very personnal and therefore I could not give you some objectiv argument. Perhaps it is due to me having a low-quality stick. If I had a better stick I would gladly train in order to master it. Yes that's it. I only speak for myself here, but maybe others have a similar reason for wanting such a feature. I do not hate AAR, but I would like it to be easier mostly because of my stick: it is very imprecise, and has large deadzones on the center. I can cope with it by using curves, but still it is difficult to perform precise maneuvers. Sometimes I use the trim on my stick to do small corrections, but one of the trim buttons does not work : I can trim roll left but not right, so... Futhermore, I use the throttle integrated to my stick with is also very imprecise: if I only push slightly forward the airplanes speeds too rapidly. Another reason would be to play long missions with my brother, who is a casual player and just does not want to train much. However we like doing long flights together, so an easy AAR mode would help us a lot doing longer missions. (Do not get me wrong, I do not want ED to make AAR easier, but just have an option to make it easier for players who which it so.) These are my personal reasons, and in fact I suppose most people who wish for such a feature have similar reasons: basically bad stick or no time or no wish to train.
-
Unlimited fuel is not the same, because you do not need external fuel tanks with unlimited fuel whereas you need them for a long mission with AAR. :) I don't like unlimited fuel and never use it because it ruins the immersion, but I would be fine using an easy AAR. If it were a feature that can be disbaled in the mission editor, it should not bother anyone who does not wish to use it.
-
People with scarce time can choose for themselves how they want to spend it. :smilewink: Your sarcasm makes me think that you do not understand why some people would need this so I will use and example to help you with it: Some people cannot train a lot to perform such complex manouvers as an AAR or a perfect CASE 1 recovery, which obviously require some (or a lot!) of practice. I am not even taking stick quality into account here... But still they know how to drop bombs because it is easy to do, still following me ? Imagine they want to fly a 3h mission every now and then, just to enjoy a long navigation (after all, a joy in DCS is to look out of the window and enjoy the marvellous landscape isn't it ?) and perform a strike on some targets. Well they can't if they are not able to AAR. It is just as simple as that.

The map looks GREAT ! It will be a wonderful place to set future missions and campaign ! Congratulation Ugra Media ! My only regret is that there is so little sea, which makes that aircraft carrier will be at maximum 40nm from the coast. But I will cope with it. :)

I also think such a feature would be nice. I do not understand all the people saying "Yeah also you can just practice 30min every day and eventually you will catch it". Some people can not spend 30min every now and then to learn to do it. Some people just fly casual missions with friends/family were each participant has different skill and hardware, some being able to AAR and others not. Therefore having such an "auto refuel" thing would enable the whole team to perform the same mission despite having different skill. Besides your ability to refuel is also related to the stick you have. I personnaly only have a very old stick with a small throttle axis. It has deadzones and low precision axis, and even if you can use curves to smooth it, their is no such thing to control speed. I have tried a lot to AAR with the Mirage but I feel really limited by my stick. Therefore, such an auto AAR would be a great ADDITION to DCS. From many reactions I have read, it seems some people feel threatened by it. Like "Ey I spent time to be able to AAR and now you make an auto AAR ? Did I spend time for nothing ?". If ED made this feature, it would be up to the server/mission planner to enable it or not, obviously.
