reported RWR not showing locked radars in Search mode
Steve Davies replied to Aries144's topic in Bugs and Problems
I've flown the F-16CJ Block 52, F-16CG Block 40, Eurofighter FGR4 and F/A-18D (Swiss) with the RWR powered up. In none of those instances was there a constant flow of audio related to the priority threat. All I heard was 'new guy' and lock tones. Not sure if that helps, but that's my first-hand experience. Edit: I forgot, I got one ride in a Swiss F-5F and the RWR audio worked the same way. -
All I have an almost-new Warthog throttle with a dead motherboard. I was given the unit by Thrustmaster (I am tester) and it very uncharacteristically died. Instead of replacing the motherboard, they've just sent over a new unit. At any rate, they have given me permission to offer this one for spares salvage. I won't charge for the throttle, but would charge shipping. I am in Cambridge, England. If you are local, we could arrange collection instead. First come, first served.

Thank you!

Love your videos, John. Keep up the good work.

[RESOLVED] Yaw instability or SPAK is not my friend...
Steve Davies replied to Goblin's topic in Bugs and Problems
Using TM pedals and I get the same behaviour. Large NWS and rudder inputs just prior rotation speed, even when I don't actually touch the pedals. -
Fantastic guide!

Thanks for the feedback, Dusty! Glad you're having fun :pilotfly:

Yurgon is correct. 'Weaponeering', or selecting the correct weapons to achieve the desired effects against the target, is the flight lead's responsibility. I don't think I have ever flown a campaign mission where I did not optimise my loadout in the ME.

I'll ask Matt to take a look...

Great stuff! :pilotfly:

Hog pilots Following discussions with Matt, we've edited the A-10 RF briefing materials to indicate a minimum altitude over the farms of 12k' AGL (17k' MSL) - this is in order to stay out of the Igla MEZ. For the absolute purists out there, we acknowledge that the 'real life' restriction is lower. But for this RF campaign, that's the limit we're settled on. Updated material will be available when the next update is released (we're still waiting on a confirmation on when that will be).

Thanks, Lucky :)

Will let Wags know about this. For the avoidance of confusion (I hope!)@ The Farms are at c.5k ASL. They are not to be overflown lower than 6.5k AGL. So, *rounding up* for those who want an MSL figure or who don't have a rad alt: 12k MSL.

Thanks for sharing these, Vincent. They qualify as the first confirmed record of any Red Eagle MiG-23s. Would be wonderful to have your permission to use these images (credited to you, of course). One minor correction: Dollar Silvers may well have been the last guy to fly Red 44 on a CONSTANT PEG sortie, but it's quite possible that someone else flew it back to Groom, and that various other people then flew it when it got back to Groom. While they closed down CP in March '88, I've seen logbook entries that show a small number of guys flying MiG-23s on continuation sorties in the period immediately following.

This isn't a campaign mission. Can a mod please move this thread? -
Interesting thing on Mission 5 *Warning Spoilers*
Steve Davies replied to granola1861's topic in A-10C 16-2 Red Flag Campaign
It reminds me of a story that Paco Geisler, a fairly well-known character in Air Force circles in the 1980s and 1990s, told me. He was a Red Eagle pilot, flying MiGs from Tonopah and exposing the tactical air forces to 'the threat'. After one CONSTANT PEG mission, he flew back to Nellis in a T-38 to debrief the visiting F-15 squadron. One of the pilots said to him, "You sure speak good English for a Russian", to which Paco responded, "What are you talking about, dumb ass!? I'm American!". -

Nice work maintaining SA, Climber! No, that is not a scripted part of the mission, so it must have been a rogue AI pilot! -
Most immersive campaign I've ever played
Steve Davies replied to BritTorrent's topic in A-10C 16-2 Red Flag Campaign
Wonderful to read this feedback, BritTorrent. Thanks for taking the time to let us know it's working for you in the way that we hoped it would. :) There will be improvements and fixes in the next campaign update, so it should only get better! Cheers Steve -
Thanks very much for the update.

The standard 'fighter pilot answer' to both questions: it depends. It is certainly true that, historically, leadership have meddled with the ATO and dictated weapons loadouts, but in many cases the wing and squadron missions planners have been able to push back. For the purpose of our Red Flag missions, I think it's reasonable to do your own weaponeering of the target - it's actually part of the process that attendees are being evaluated on - and this is especially true when you are a four-ship flight lead. Yes, there are assigned altitude blocks at RF, but they're not really an integral element of the RF missions Matt and I created. We could go back and look at how we use them in any future RF campaign, but when I fly the missions, I use them primarily as a deconfliction tool in the administrative parts of the sortie (the exception being not flying through the Blue Air CAP stations when I head west to the FEBA and east away from it). I appreciate that we all want the most immersive and realistic experience that we can get. That is the driving force that pulled Matt and I together to make these campaigns, but this will be an iterative process and it will take time to make these as good as we dreamed that they might be. So far, the feedback has blown us away, but your patience and support while we make these better and better would be appreciated, too.

Some of your points are valid - yes, there are inconsistencies between briefings, line-up cards and maps; and there are typos where AMSL should, of course, be AGL. Wags is going to nail these this coming week. We take your feedback seriously, so thank you for posting it. Some of your gripes are not valid. The lineup card is there to note important aspects of your sortie. It is not there to tell you that there might be an A-10 flight over APEX - it's the initial fix, so you should expect traffic in the vicinity (as should you in Sally Corridor). And the mission briefing is not there to tell you the difference between a SP and a WP - we have to make certain assumptions about the skill level of the player, and that's a pretty basic one. As for tactics, it is ultimately your call how execute the mission, so if you don't like your loadout or the suggested procedure for penetrating the FEBA, do your own thing! Finally, some of your gripes relate to bugs that are now known and are being worked through. My advice to you would be to wait until the next update from Wags before continuing the campaign.

[Unable to repeat] Can't complete mission 3
Steve Davies replied to Gazza.Blake's topic in Problems and Bugs
Further to Matt's post... Gazza, can you post a track? What happens if you exit the mission the instant that you see the Mission Success message? Matt and I are not aware of any bugs surrounding this mission, so it does seem likely that the issue is to do with airspace violations. -
Oh, Wags also added WAI restrictions on AB use during the administrative portions of the flight.
