Excellent, thanks BD for this one. I think it is very valuable (required?) for the campaign. And even just reading this taught me another new thing in my trusty Hornet: Now I now what that „GRCV“ option in the ARC-210 is for:music_whistling: I‘m sure I will even learn more when actually flying. So far I completed „Event 1“ only and this just after my second attempt. Would I have read this guide before I probably would have made it first time. Even though admittedly a bit of my trouble came from the revised INS alignment procedures which I screwed up as well. Again, it‘s all about learning, right? I love it. Actually, I begin to think that a new benchmark for me when it comes to campaigns is whether I learn something new about the jet that I actually thought I already knew very well. Happened with „The Enemy Within“ and recently with the free (but definitely payware-quality) campaign „Exigent Riviera“. It‘s a testament to how deeply, authentic and thorough you design your content. Keep it up!

But exactly that is the problem, the fact that BOTH Syrian and Russian Hips (or some sort transport helos) are currently operating in the area side-by-side. And if you want to create a modern (i.e. todays) scenario, US troops would consider a Russian Hip as neutral (normally...) while a Syrian one would probably be a bandit and fair game. And since todays ROEs require for a VID more often than not, it’s not really an option to substitute a missing Syrian asset by a Russian one which is what I often do on other maps and in scenarios where Russia itself is not part of the conflict/story.

Any Good F/A-18 Supercarrier Missions out there?

Sounds interesting. Have a link? I didn‘t manage to find any Liberation campaign in the user files section. Thanks! -

Same here. Even though I still think I just haven‘t found the appropriate binding...:music_whistling: -
Any Good F/A-18 Supercarrier Missions out there?
Hog_No32 replied to CommandT's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
+1 IMHO the best and most realisitic (...as far as me civvie can tell:) ) Hornet campaign out there. Great voiceovers, great missions and very immersive. Cage the Bear is also neat, I‘m nearly through that one as well. But it still boggles my mind to operate a US carrier in the Black Sea :book: and I just like the PG AO much more. That and maybe the really excellent voiceovers in Exigent Riviera makes it my favorite. I also like longer missions (1h+) which there are a few in ER. As with most campaigns that were out there before the SC and that now swapped the Stennis with one of the SCs, you will still see references to the „Stennis“. This occurs in the briefings, the voiceovers and TACAN channels (74X). But it‘s not a bummer at all, I‘m rather happy we got the „converted“ campaigns so quickly. -
You are correct. The volume (Liters, Gallons, whatever) changes as temperature changes. The mass (kg, pounds) remains unchanged.

I often get this ADV when I do AAR. As soon as I extend the probe, the ADV pops up. It stays on until I retract the probe again. Don‘t recall if that is only the case when refuelling above 20k (which I normally do though).

engine sound pitch change...Israel/Syria terrain maps
Hog_No32 replied to fitness88's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
If you are flying supersonic and look at your nose from the front (F2 view) there will be no engine sound - and that is correct, of course. If you change your viewpoint to look at the aircraft from the back you should definitely hear the engines though. -
I tried this recently as well but no joy either. LSO and CAT cameras are working fine but I cannot look into the hangar bay. Not really an issue for me personally but I had seen YT videos about it too and just wanted to try it out.

Frankly, when delivered precisely onto the wingbox (that section where the wings meet with the fuselage), I’d expect a single 500lbs class bomb to do the job, even with an unfueled plane. These are purposefully light build (aluminium) structures, these are not tanks. And you don‘t even need two GBU-16s for a T-72, so...

To whoever decided on the new SC GUI soundtrack: Well done! Really loving that tune, it perfectly sets the mood for a carrier mission. It is so good I even listen to it during mission editing (normally I tend to go with some personal playlist). Thanks!

same here, even though I tried it at rather an extreme range. By TTS zero, I was about 80 miles from the target. The seeker opened 10 miles before the target so it was 70ish miles directly behind me (antenna switched to aft). I was at Angels 30 by then with uninterrupted LOS between me and the target. There definitely was the link and some kind of an image as I could somewhat make out the missile diving towards its target as per Wags video. But it was so blurry and „snowish“ that no control was possible. Would really like to know at what ranges ED modelled this to be useful. It makes u wonder what the „stand-off“ portion of the SLAM is really worth it when you have to more or less fly alongside the missile to its target... Not complaining at all, just curious.

Swapping Supercarrier for Stennis in exisitng mission - how?
Hog_No32 replied to parxuk's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
You can do that using the mission editor. While not necessarily difficult or complex, it is still a bit of work and you should know what you do there to not mess up the flights in the missions (Exigent Riviera is too great, loving that campaign:thumbup:). That being said, if you are not familiar with the mission editor like you say, be careful messing around. There might be triggers and other stuff associated to the carrier (i.e. the Stennis) that you would need to recreate or rebind to the new carrier asset. And re-assign all the flights, etc, etc. The Mission Editor is a powerful tool. You can take the opportunity to learn about it while trying out. Just open one of the missions in the ME and save it under a different name. Now you can play around and try swapping the carrier without breaking the original mission/campaign. -
You selected „Carrier Technicians“ correctly. A bit below that you can change the color of the shirts from the default to any color that is usually seen on deck. Wags also shows this in one of the preview vids. Cheers

I strongly hope this was pure sarcasm... What we need is MORE and BETTER testing than before, also for OB updates. Guess why we have most of the issues at hand in 2.5.6... most certainly NOT because ED overtested the release...
-
Thats a good thing! More (and well structured) testing will undoubtedly result in fewer breaks! Even if that means it takes a bit longer, I‘m happy with more solid and stable releases! Go for it!

Thanks. Well, this is not really daytime. It is a CASE III which is only used in nighttime (apparently including dusk&dawn as in the vid) or poor weather. Let me rephrase: Is the long range lineup light visible/on the at noon and with perfect visibilty? I know that you normally wouldn‘t (have to) use it in a CASE I recovery, but I was curious nevertheless.
-
Anybody has an idea whether the long range lineup light at the stern will be on/visible/usable for nighttime ops only or daytime as well?
-
Agree. Never understood why such a prominent and rather simple feature (which aside from the optics also affects deck parking) isn‘t modelled, even in a free-for-all module. Admittedly, there seem to be more pressing items that really affect the usability of the Stennis for some users (mainly MP as I understand). Since I am an SP guy, I doon‘t have any real issues that negatively impact my gameplay..argh...simulation experience :smilewink:

good point!

Easy with it, easy with it...

Agree, at least it is much harder than the only other types I ever attempted to refuel in the air: the Mirage and the Hornet. As BuzzU pointed out already, thankfully the loiter time of the Hog on full tanks never really meant I had to air refuel. By the time I ran out of gas I was usually also Winchester, so back to base anyway. With the really short legs of the Hornet this is a different story. For the first time I felt really limited in mission design without AAR so the Hornet became the first bird I‘ve forced myself to train AAR with. I struggled with it a lot in the beginning but training, training, training made it work for me in the end. I now refuel rather happily in it, get in on the first or second „stab“ ans usually stay in till tanks full. Needless to say, I find nighttime AAR still much more difficult than in daytime.

Yeah, I noted those discrepancies as well. If I understood correctly IRL only the calls mentioned by Robin Hood are used to make them recognizable and distinguishable even if only parts of the transmission are received by the pilot (like, if he only hears "come ..xxx" he knows it must be "come left"). I just hope this is a lapse in the documentation and does not correspond to the actually recorded voice-overs. That being said, at least some of the voiceovers were done by people with RL carrier ops expercience so I am confident they would have noted these during the recordings... :-) Another minor mistake that I noted: On pages 36 and 49 in the "Landing" paragraphs it reads "Then [i.e.:after landing], release the brakes and allow the aircraft to be pulled back". I think we agree that (wheel) brakes are not used during deck landings at all, hence no need to release them... :music_whistling:
