  1. Maybe someone can give a quick review? How does it compare to DCS:BS?
  2. Pro tip: Mount the TIR camera on the same side of you monitor that you track clip pro is on your headset and then go into advanced options for the camera and rotate it to landscape mode. Doing this gives the camera a better view of the emitters no matter how far up/down/left/right you move your head.
  3. Thanks for the comparison SLI is a negligible performance benefit also on a single monitor. Where the multigpu cards/SLI/Crossfire shine in DCS is multimonitor configurations.
  4. Nvidia disabled PCIE gen 3 speed in the new 680 drivers soo if you bought an X79 you only get gen 2 speeds for now until they "validate it" (supposedly the driver on the disk has it enabled still?) Funny ATI has it right out of the box. Wonder WTF they were doing the whole time before release to decide to disable it after they sent it out door. Seems a bit underhanded to me. Not that its a huge difference in performance but if you go SLI /tri/quad It's a much bigger difference.
  5. I'm not a big AMD fan but I do have a 6950 (sapphire) for my sons computer and I can say it's rock solid. Personally I would go for that as your resolution is pushing the boundaries of the Vram with the other 2 cards.
  6. It's about a 3% performance gain on Windows 7 with the hotfixes. MS is working on more stuff for Windows 8 that should trickle down to 7 also. Not sure if they are doing anything for XP or Vista. Hopefully you have Windows 7. Sidenote: These fixes also seem to increase performance on Intel chips too.
  7. Running a before and after upgrade bench might help a little.
  8. My understanding is that your video card still does the processing but the output is somehow compressed by your CPU then just passed through the various system busses out the USB port. It uses display link so it should work ok as long as you are only using it to display MFCDs or CDU etc. If you are thinking of using it for additional viewing area of 3d content I would recommend against that. I have 2 MIMO 7" USB screens that worked fine. They should work just fine with your setup but we havent seen your system specs yet so I'm just guessing. I never noticed an appreciable framerate drop overall. Maybe 1 or 2 FPS
  9. If I run my 3 screens as independant monitors the USB screens work. Enabling Nvidia surround makes them quit working. Others have had this issue also with surround. From my observations if you have 2 screens enabled , its ok , when you enable the 3rd it starts making the USB screens fail. Certain combinations of reinstalling drivers and reconfiguring monitors get them to work but only breifly. After a reboot you are back to square 1. Just a guess that the Nvidia driver didn't like more than 3 screens and somehow disabled it. Even with the required SLI setup you couldn't enable more than 3 screens. Thats why the 680 is so appealing to me. Note: They work perfectly fine with 1 or 2 monitors attached with SLI or without.
  10. Hopefully the new 300 series driver will let me use my USB screens again. Currently broken with Nvidia surround enabled. If any of you gentleman with shiny new 680's are using USB screens + surround also some feedback would be greatly appreciated. (sometimes I can get them to work but after a reboot they quit again)
  11. You are probably setting up the controls for "game mode" and playing in "sim mode" or vice versa. It's at teh top to the controls section
  12. Nice, I haven't been to that site before. Was hoping I wouldn't have to wait a month before someone got around to doing this :) Thanks!
  13. I hate to say it but after looking at some of the reviews the 680 it's not 46% faster than a 7970. The other thing thats being hinted at is the 680 is closer to a 560ti than a 580. Every other release by Nvidia since the 8800 series has coincided with a Quadro/Tesla release in paralell. This time there is nothing which also seems to point to them holding back on the true "680". Compute performance is worse than a 580 so there has to be something else in the works. I have a feeling Nvidia is holding back on its true high end part for a while, probably to see what AMD is going to come out with. In the mean time they come out with something comparable to AMD they can charge the same price for. Haven't seen 1 review where 3 screens surround or eyefinity are compared on these new cards or better yet DCS performance. would be nice to know :) From the reviews I've seen the ATI cards scaled a bit better at higher resolutions. [Edit] Isn't that one of the new features of the card....finally able to run 3 screens and noone even bothered in any of the hardware review sites..... Think I'll hold on a while longer and hopefully we can see some results here as people start getting the new Nvidia/AMD cards.
  14. Well they are out as of today.. 8 days earlier than the OP predicted! Instantly sold out on NewEgg..... I guess it's not "who you know but who you blow" to get one as they weren't even preorders for them....I think friends of people who work there got them with insider information so they can relist them on Ebay for $100.00 markup. I'll wait for the second batch anyways as I don't want to get burnt with the first revision as I did with the 8800 GTX/bad resistors /fail after a year BS. Anxiously waiting for A-10/BS2 performance review from one of the early adopters here..
  15. Nice play on words :P
  16. DCS: Apache, F-16C and Mi-24? All dead now or is the F-16C the next "US fixed wing aircraft" ? http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=503375&postcount=343 Wags had said that "Work was continuing on these other modules" now 4 years of silence on those. I seem to recall that the Apache was dropped due to not getting a contract or something correct me if I'm wrong) but what of the other 2? The pits looked pretty amazing.
  17. Imagine the LUA nightmare of trying to setup all those displays on a multi-monitor setup in DCS. I'd have to get 3 way SLI and 3 more screens to be happy. It would be a good nightmare to have though.
  18. I'm happy about this also. Just goes to prove that competition is good for us. Going to wait for others to make the plunge first on this though before I buy it. Trying to run in spanning mode right now with any other monitor, be it USB, DVI or whatever is broken. Running 3+ monitors in non spanned mode forces current Nvidia users to resort to SoftTH or suffer terrible FPS. Personally I'd rather just have to set it up in windows then tweak my DCS configs then run through SoftTh because when ED eventually gets around to updating to their graphics to DX 11, any setup that relies on that will be broken also. I suspect that this will all be done via drivers and hopefully it will trickle down to the older generations of cards that support spanning currently but I'm not holding my breath.
  19. Piece of cake, remove the 4 screws holding the fan in the top of the case and install your H100. A word of caution though, when you unplug the fan( which has a female 3 pin connector) you should cover up the exposed 3 pins of the male connector from the case fan control with a piece of electrical tape so as not to short anything out.
  20. I'm a big Nvidia supporter but this is way overdue. They had good multi support in XP then gutted it and moved it over to their "professional" graphics cards and want you to pay big bucks for it. Finally AMD is pushing them back in the other direction. Not long ago the desktop and professional boards were exactly the same with only a different BIOS yet they charge $2500.00 and called it a "Quadro" All you had to do was flash a different BIOS and install the quadro driver. Don't believe? http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia-mosaic-technology.html People act like it's something new for the 680....it's not they just gimped the desktop cards to justify their overpriced workstation products.
  21. I guess I pretty much echoed his article...never read it but the same stuff that he doesn't seem to care for neither do I. I like the analogy of having a child draw a futuristic car, so they draw a regular car and just add rocket engines and wings. Pretty much sums it up IMO
  22. I bet they are wringing their hands in anticipation of all the frustrated Windows 8 users flocking to buy their desktop software. I used to use their products pre Windows 7, after I got 7 I was happy enough with it I didn't buy newer versions.
  23. FYI: TrackIR wont install. If anyone has any interest in how to fix it you need to disable driver signature enforcement. Procedure is a bit different in Win8 CPP http://laslow.net/2012/03/14/disable-driver-signature-enforcement-in-windows-8-cp/ then you can goto device manager, update driver software/let me choose/ browse to your program files (x86)/Natural Point/TrackIR folder and it will install. Stuck with this for a few more days as I'm going to reformat anyways....
  24. I can sum up what Windows 8 is in one word - kludge ("An ill-assorted collection of poorly matching parts, forming a distressing whole.") This thing is total garbage unless you use a touchscreen tablet. Everything about it is counterproductive for a desktop user. Things I hate about it: 1) Metro - The most counterproductive poorly written interface on any type of computer, tablet or phone I've ever used. It looks horrible too. The interface feels like a gas station or restaurant terminal except instead of being usable with everything jumbled together in one huge mess. 2) Online ID's - Got nothing to hide but I don't want them selling or using my info or buying habbits and no I don't want their crummy metro apps either. 3) Everything is hard to find if you view all programs you have to pick through EVERY program and subprogram and barely used utility that is installed on your computer. 4) They got rid of the start button and there's no option to even put it back. 5) No way to get back to the "classic" interface 6) Seems to be catered to touchscreen because a mouse and keyboard hard do anything. Noone I know uses a touchscreen for day to day work on a computer , nor will they ever. I sure as hell don't want to work with my arm outstreched all day or humped over a tablet Even if every person who used it complained about the CPP MS will not budge , they are already pushing forward with their programing API's and steering developers toward this crap. So it's pretty much set in stone....Once the reviews come out it will be a tremendous flop and consumers will speak with their wallet MS will be looking stupid. They made a huge leap forward with Windows 7 but this feels like 2 steps back, it's that bad. Microsoft tried to dumb everything down and in the process gutted the OS. Let's just say this. I will probably be one of "those guys"- you know, the ones who are still using XP 10 years later - Except it'll be Windows 7.
