I don't know the exact number, but Russian radar systems tend to require more power for the same performance. TWS and HOJ without emitting are modern things. The RP-5's lock would most likely get trashed by chaff and any jammers would almost completely blind it. The 2nd, lock, antenna at least. Jammers back then were really powerful, as there weren't radar systems developed with it in mind. Low band (i.e. search) radars would see through them, but high band fire guidance radars were almost completely blinded.

Most likely a later field modification gone somewhat official. It all depends on what kind of Mi-24P we are getting, a late or an early one.

I think they mean frames and resource use, cuz I've shot sown my fare share of F-15C's in MP with it. But the Frames are indeed more unstable than on other, especially ED, modules. But in my opinion, a good buy. Especially with a discount. Funny thing that the 100th Red Army day also marks the date of my country declaring independence, so it fits in with a local holiday as well. :)

Though with Alpha, Beta, and Delta, Gamma does sound logical... But the code's just that way and there isn't a thing we can do about it.

Agreed, playing as wingman with an AI lead in close formation is near impossible. Going fast on an intercept mission that is, the AI just seems to ignite his rockets indefinitely for a boost. :D

/\/\/\ This. On the SPO-10 part, I sincerely hope that it will get better! ED has stated that they are developing a thev and better RWR system for the F/A-18C - which actually simulates it's function. I surely think they will provide it to 3rd party devs, making accurate simulation of such a system much more doable.

Also the SPO-10 is modeled in a very simplified way. The real thing was much more complicated, but a good operator could read a lot of info out of it that you can't in DCS. Like rang and direction of lock.

Ok, TY! That clears it up, and makes the aircraft even more interesting. A 2 layer HUD is an awesomely clunky prospect, and I love it!

The MiG-19p was the stepping stone to the MiG-21, having earlier variants of many of the systems present on that aircraft. The design specification specified "something that could out-maneuver anything the West had" but also required all-weather interception capabilities. It had a very advanced gunsight for it's time - allowing for a rough 0-visibility gun solution to be worked out. As well as this it had R3S missiles, 2 of them. So a beast in dogfights, and an all weather interceptor. With the added bonus of clunky early Soviet systems, like the sound based RWR (as in the late MiG-15s, though IIRC these are not yet modeled in DCS). The MiG-19pm is an all weather interceptor, focusing sully on its 4 SAR missiles - NO GUN! And the MiG-19s is the ultimate dogfighting variant, being the most maneuverable and equipped with the best guns. Though not carrying missiles. As well as this all of them (with the exception of the MiG-19pm, IIRC) can carry A/G munitions. Though the MiG-19pm's missiles could theoretically be used like the Groms. That's why I'm definitely going to get my hands an a MiG-19.

The SPO-10 only covers about +/- 45 degrees horizontally (fixed to aircraft roll axis), you can correct me with the exact numbers. So if the lock is coming from either below or above that it won't be indicated. So when breaking away or in a hard turn, it can be easy to not trigger the SPO-10. Is this a possibility?
-
Yeah. As far as my limited research is concerned, the P model didn't have the famous SPO-15 on the top of the canopy frame. Nor anywhere for that matter, I think it came with later variants. But as always I'm happy to be proven wrong here.
-
Interesting. Can anyone explain the "second HUD" (in front) without a reflector glass?
-
That does sound very good, but best to have no assumptions based on 'getting lucky'. That leads to some disappointments rather quickly. Better to have a pleasant surprise than an unrealized expectation.

Cockpit buttons graphics and clcikable point are misalinged
asla36 replied to Stratos's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Same here. It seems that sometimes the right hand cockpit wall switches have their hit-boxes in the "On" position, even if the switch is off. This is only occurring with those switches, so only an inconvenience at startup. I have never had this happen to any switches you would actually need in combat. -
It is kinda wishful thinking. But as far as I'm concerned, it is the logical conclusion. Since ED is "keeping those 2 to themselves" and asking us "not to worry", I would guess it means they have the 2 planned somewhere along the pipeline - probably years from now. However plans can always change, and unless it is announced, we have no guarantees.
-
Yep, we're just gonna have to wait. 30 years or so should do.

Yes, a properly modeled SPO-10 would be a joy to use! It is such an interesting system, because you can pretty much get the same info out of it as the SPO-15. However that requires a good and experienced operator, it would be an awesome system to get a feel for! Oh well, gotta hope for the best. And hope that when ED's MiG-23 get's released, we'll get a properly implemented SPO-10. :)

So the SA page looks to be something a little more advanced than the F-16C's HSD on a MFD. Looking forwards to using it!
-
Good to hear! But for those that really want the 100% realism, could you please include a special option to move them to their historical position? Thx!
-
Do you plan to overhaul the SPO-10, or is it going to stay in a simplified state? I reckon that you are waiting for the new radar tech coming with 2.5, since I imagine it would greatly simplify accurately simulating the SPO-10.
-
I have to say, the Su-24 would be an awesome fit. As it would also provide the F-14 with a chance to fill it's actual role in MP scenarios - a fleet defense fighter.
-
Well, unless you look at WW2. But we have the wrong aircraft variants for that scenario anyways.
-
But you're gonna have to brush up your Russian for that. They did say that we shouldn't worry, they were going to keep the Flogger to themselves. The MiG-27 also, so we have a lot to look forwards to for the RED side. Maybe even this year, since there are a lot of unannounced projects planned to be released this year!?!? However, the last part is just hopeful thinking.
