... And the 240 kt recommendation.
-
To fully fill out this scenario, we would need 3 additional aircraft: a US carrier based strike aircraft, a Soviet/Warsaw Pact anti-shipping bomber, and a Soviet/Warsaw Pact point defense interceptor. If we were to get these aircraft along with the theater, then we would truly have something awesome on our hands. But the biggest problem would come with getting documentation for the OPFOR anti-shipping bomber. Getting it for their interceptor wouldn't be easy either, but as long as you are not looking at the MiG-31 (since it is still the most advanced thing in service with their air defense force) it should be doable. A MiG-25 should be possible, because you could get the info from defected air-frames or export models. However the bomber would be the same as the MiG-31. With maybe the acceptation that in the bombers case it wouldn't be the thing classified, the missiles it carries would.

I think that they mentioned it in a news letter that they are currently working on the moving map for the F/A-18C. So that means yes, they just haven't gotten around to modeling it yet. But the good thing is that modeling something takes the least time in the DCS "module-making" process, getting precise documentation is the harder and more time-consuming part.

Happy new year, and good luck with you future endeavors!

Google translate and my broken Russian seem to bring me to the same conclusion. This is amazing news, maybe in 2019?

The best we can hope for right now is that it is being developed under NDA by someone unknown. Some 3rd parties like LN and RAZBAM can be ruled out outright as candidates, since they have outright denied or gotten denied development of the MiG-23. Before the split LN did state that they had plans to develop a MiG-23, but that something else would come first. However since then they have underwent an organisational reform and a split, so a few years old plan to develop the MiG-23 is likely to have been dumped in the process. But I would love to be wrong, the MiG-23 is, much like the Tornado, just too iconic to be left out of DCS.

*** AI J-35 Draken AI coming to DCS World!! ***
asla36 replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Would be a dream! Also a Baltic Sea map would be awesome, and with Su-15/22 and JA-37 modules it would be almost feature complete with aircraft (since we already have the strike Viggen, MiG-21bis, and are going to get the MiG-19p)! Though these are just dreams and are most likely never going to get realized, I just wanted to spill out some of my stupid dreams. Life without them would be so much easier. -
Though work on the MiG-21bis has seemed to speed up, much still remains to fix. But at least fixes are coming out and we can all appreciate that. All that remains now is to hope that things get better. I personally am most looking forwards to the SPO-10 getting properly modeled, I hope that the reason it is not already done is that they are waiting for the new radar tech to get released.

Yeah, they did get into legal trouble when trying to make a full fidelity Su-27. However I still think an export (or vanilla) model MiG-29 would be the most realistic variant to expect, as it is the most outdated. But I think a MiG-23 (M-MLA) would be more realistic, and still fit the bill against the F-14 and M-2000C. These (RED side 4th gen fighters) are all, in the end, just pipe dreams that are most likely never going to get realized. And in the end I just get the fear that the reason RAZBAMs MiG-23 got denied was pressure from the government. I sincerely hope I am wrong.
-
I don't think the MiG-29 counts, it's not a full module. In fact, MiG-21bis aside, there is no full-fidelity opponent for the M-2000C (and soon to be F-14, F-18 ). I think that is a more pressing concern. If I was given the choice, I would prioritize an actual MiG-29 (most likely A because documentation should be easier to get from NATO friendly countries) over an F-16. But of course, I would love to see them both make it into DCS!

the most realistic A/G radar ever done for a game
asla36 replied to rweaves6's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Have to agree here, I for example almost exclusively fly the MiG-21bis. It was the original multi-role fighter in DCS and I just fell in love with it. The thing has so much character, history, and interesting gameplay that with the time limitations I have it's become pretty much the only thing I fly. Everyone is here to have fun and do what they like. Branching out is fun and definitely recommended, but there's nothing wrong with sticking to your favorite modules. :) -
Missing External Model Parts / Texture from cockpit view
asla36 replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Yeah... But it also is really low priority, since in regular usage it shouldn't even be noticed. Leaning out of the cockpit mid-flight can hardly be called 'standard practice' among Cold War era fighter pilots. -
ED tried to make a modern Su-27, but the Russian government threatened it with legal action and the project was stopped.
-
Oh boy, you know what happened last time ED tried to develop a module of a fighter currently in active service with the Russian air forces? Legal action was taken against it by the Russian government. You see they do not like sims, especially ones made of such new aircraft. You have got to realize that the MiG-31 is still very much the most advanced interceptor in the Russian arsenal. The date it came out means nothing for classification, if it is still the most advanced thing in active service. For example, some of the systems in the Viggen were still classified when they started developing that (since they were still in use in the Gripen). But luckily, the Swedish government granted the request to declassify some of these 40 odd year old systems. The Russians were not so understanding with their actions however, and now we have no proper 4th gen Russian fighters in DCS. Things just look depressing for the RED side in DCS.
-
I would love to believe, bot gonna stay pessimistic.
-
The MiG-23 would be awesome, a real step up from the MiG-21bis against modern things! Same thing with the MiG-25! But we are never going to see them, like just no. There is so little potential market compared to Western birds, and classification is a real sucker for modules. Our opinions are not gonna change that. :(
-
Great!
-
This 'imbalance' is a real sucker for MP. FC3 is just boring, and the MiG-21bis requires good GCI to work properly against modern things. So MiG-23 pretty please? Oh wait, yeah... You see just wanting anything doesn't make it a plausible module to be developed and sold. We are not going to see a 4th gen RED fighter, just like we are not going to see a BLUE attack (not including light attack) helo or Japanese/Russian WW2 bird. The gaps are just not gonna get filled, no matter how much we want them to be. MP is going to have to stay 'imbalanced' and FC3 heavy. That's how the things work around here if you are looking short term. Now long term is a different story. But long term is not now, maybe somewhere 5 years down the line.

Strange external lights on the fuselage
asla36 replied to Skulleader's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Maybe a 'simple' fix, like turning the service lights off when the gear is raised, would do it. Or is this an actual feature on the aircraft? Thanks in advance for the response! -
That's the great thing with older/simpler birds!
-
What we want does not directly impact what gets made. So yes, we want it. Yes, it would be a very welcome addition to the MP scene. Yes, it would provide something completely new. And yes, it would be awesome. But we are just not gonna get it, not soon at least.
-
For whatever reason, it seems like starting development of a MiG-23 in DCS is a no-no. Though it would also be my No.1 pick. For now we only have the memories of unauthorized modules and speculation.
-
Keep up the good work!
-
If someone is developing it, we can be sure it is neither LN or RAZBAM. But so far it's just unrealized pipe-dreams and speculation. Well, at least it used to not be. But for now, no MiG-23.
-
I also want a MiG-23, badly. But we are not going to get one, not any time soon at least.
