  1. If i remember correctly, they said that the current HUD refresh rate on the HUD only represents a part of it. The different parts of the HUD had different refresh rates, and the current demo one represents the rate of one of the slower refreshing parts. It would be a great thing to see a list of the refresh rates that the different elements had. Currently I can only speculate, but I think it's a safe assumption to make that elements that relied on slower updating external sensors (radar in TWS, and so on) we're slower. Where as the artificial horizon and speed/altitude readings would be almost instant. Can't wait!
  2. Would love to see one, preferably a MiG-23M or ML (maybe MLA). This would be a godsend for the RED team, finally getting something more advanced than the MiG-21bis to fight modern things in. And it would be an awesome module just for the systems: adjusting wing sweep in dogfights to get the best performance, radar, IRST, Russian navigation and weapon systems, and so on. It would be even more awesome than the MiG-21bis! But guys, they said no. They outright said no. So why on Earth would anyone be speculating that THEY are making one!?!? I could see the case for someone else having plans or outright making one, just not the team that outright denied it. Nothing against them, they just stated the facts like they were. But let's be happy with what we are going to get. Because with DCS one thing is certain, it'll be awesome!
  3. Now thinking about it, you are correct. The FC3 products are indeed very, very old (compared to others). Being the descendants of ED's first products. And yes, I'm aware that we currently have an "S" model. Sorry for wording myself badly. *EDIT:* Sorry for starting this off topic discussion, I apologize.
  4. As far as I know it was going to be a full module, but they had to degrade the offer to FC3 level and an earlier variant. Fell free to correct me if necessary.
  5. 1+ Also, how will we interact with it? Will there be a special comm menu page, or some other way?
  6. We're not going to see one. Though in the very unlikely event that we will see one, it will be the vanilla MiG-29 or MiG-29a. Attempting to simulate a semi-modern Russian aircraft has resulted in the Russian government pressuring ED with legal action. That's why the Su-27 module was discontinued.
  7. I'd say that there's some chance of seeing the Hurricane or Hunter. The rest is either not very marketable or impossible to get documentation on.
  8. Just curious, what do the buttons on the bottom do? They seem similar to the CM release button on the MiG-21bis, what purpose do they serve here? And of course, looks great!
  9. As far as I know, that's up to ED.
  10. Meaning... It's relatively late in the development process! Though the mystery has been preserved better than with the Viggen, no leaks this time.
  11. Can't wait, thx for posting this!
  12. "You'll get home by Christmas!"
  13. You just can't get more beautiful than that!
  14. Look, closely behind the logo... There's a suspiciously P-38 looking nose-cone and wings. And "proof", you're not alone! Though it would be more realistic to expect something less classified, like the MiG-23 or Su-15 (still not going to happen). If someone were to get sufficient documentation, then great! But in the mean time, let's not expect anything like this to ever happen. As a rule: if it's Russian and somewhat new, you're not going to get it. Gotta hope the MiG-31 does not contain any important classified systems originally on the MiG-25, because that would deny us getting that bird as a module.
  15. http://leatherneck-sim.com/coming-soon/ There's a chance of getting it by LN, the pictures seem to be hinting at it. But ya' never know.
  16. But why not gather unrealistic expectations, and bitch about them not being matched by the real thing when it's released, while we can? If HB keep this flow of content up, we will not get bored! Me likey these updates and clarifications.
  17. Sorta... I mean a combination of aircraft possessing opposite styles of engagement against a certain aircraft. So for example if a MiG-21bis and MiG-19p were to engage a pair F-5E's, the F-5E's would have to counter 2 styles of dog-fighting at the same time. Same would be with a pair of MiG-21bis's going up against an F-5E and F-4E. So the F-16 and F-15 would kinda fit into this category, though they wouldn't be the best example (using my weird definition, I don't even have a word for it).
  18. Yup, that also. It will be interesting to see these fighting in pairs with MiG-21bis's, I imagine we would get a similar pair with the F-5E and F-4E. Having a longer range faster plane working together with a light dogfighter should be an interesting concept. Can't wait, so awesome! I will calm myself down with the fact that this will presumably take less time to make than something newer. Though not getting the Flogger is a shame, the Farmer isn't far behind in my wishlist!
  19. Ok, understood. Sorry, i misunderstood the posts.
  20. The design specification for the MiG-19 was to "make something that could out-turn anything the Allies have," so I would imagine that it would be quite good in a turn. However the MiG-19p was the all-weather interceptor variant. So it would be a safe bet to expect something not as capable in a turn, or vertical, as the base or MiG-19s models. As far as I can tell, with information from the most credible source ever (Wikipedia), the MiG-19 variants should be able to out-maneuver and out-climb the F-5. But the F-5 still has a major advantage in avionics and ordinance.
  21. On top of the fact that the realistic option allows for greater control and accuracy, it also makes transitioning from vertical to horizontal flight that little bit less suicidal...
  22. One of my very first ones. I was flying an early morning patrol across the hump on the TAW EU server, I ran up against my most feared opponent in the Mirage 2000C. A really good pilot, he was what you would call a Mirage main. I was starting to run low on fuel, but decided to take my very last stroll around the Inguri valley for the day, a territory recently captured by our previous offensives. Napping the earth with my radar turned off, I was fully reliant on GCI and the Mk1 Eyeball for target acquisition. I was directed at 2 enemy contacts intruding our airspace for a suspected strike mission. Turning tight to avoid the valleys edges, I saw a speck high in the morning sky. Since I was the only friendly aircraft out for patrol, I guessed that it was one of the 2 intruding targets. I started getting pings on my SPO-10. Nervous I wondered if they came from the target or our early warning radars and air defenses, hastily set up to cover our newly gained FARP. I was getting close, intending to bypass the high contact and attack the further out contact. We suspected the early high contact was sent in as a sweep mission, so the main threat to out troops came behind in the form of an A-10 lower in the valleys. My heart sank as I got the urgent message from GCI that the high contact was starting a steep dive. Suspecting that it had located me I cranked behind a mountain and scanned for the suspected agressor. There we were, turning tight in the valleys. It was a honestly confusing mess, at one moment one saw the other, at the next one they had broke off behind another valley and were lost. So it went on, at least for minutes. But in the end, lady luck saved me. I made an Immelman turn and saw a bright spot in the valley ahead of me. Scrambling for the radar switch, I attempted to IFF it. But as the GCI said that I had him in-front of me, I bore-sighted the burner and held down the missile trigger. After what seemed like ages the R-60M under my left wing lighted, and guided perfectly. Spotting the launch, the Mirage flared. But it was already too late and my missile hit home. Seconds later, the wingless Mirage plummeted into a wall of rock. There was no chute. "Target splashed," I reported to the controller. I looked around for the striker, but the controller informed me that it had exited our airspace. Looking at my fuel gauge, I started the climb to get back over the hump. Beslan was still far and the mountains blocked radio navigation. Thanks to the controllers help, I made it back on fumes. After coming to a stop on the tarmac I advanced the throttle to clear the runway for an upcoming strike package. The engine howled back to life, as I was starting to roll. Then it went quiet, it had run out of fuel. That's my story, I hope it was entertaining.
  23. Viggen and F/A-18C have different ground radar code.
  24. 1) Try to sneak up on them and R-60M their tailpipes, or engage them at range with R-3R's 2) If that fails, try to get into an energy advantage before the merge. Remember to reduce throttle when getting close, you don't want to be a victim of an all aspect shot. If you are lucky you can get an all-aspect heater shot of your own, though they have better heaters and are going to launch theirs first. If shot upon, throttle to idle and flare. 3) Whenever possible, turn vertically in the merge. Prefer vertical turns in the ensuing turnfight as you are better at them. But don't stall, it's better to give them some little advantage instead of a giant one! 4) KEEP YOUR EYES ON THEM!!! 5) "halp, there here!", your allies are a big help in a prolonged engagement. And practice, practice, practice some more. Do this and you'll be ok against F-5E's.
  25. Agreeing with probad. If you get yourself into a dogfight against an F-15, you're not in the optimal position. But it isn't all hopeless, you still have a better chance here than you would if you were to get discovered BVR. But the MiG-21bis has some tricks up it's sleeve, your sustained turn is actually pretty good. So providing you don't get splashed in the first few turns, you have a chance. But if your opponent has discipline, best bet is to hold out for as long as you can and get your friendlies's attention. I tend to play the MiG as a baiting aircraft if I get discovered BVR, otherwise a sneaky heater kill is always preferred. And if you are stalling in turns... Just practice, look at your gauges, and learn to read your aircraft's motions.
