Back in my day, we didn't have a rearm screen. We just had the loadout God gave us, and we were glad for it! There's been a lot of gradual quality of life improvements in the UI the last few years, but at a glacially slow pace. This is one that I've seen requested multiple times over my time here. Maybe some day!

Disable autostart sequence in a mission
Mars Exulte replied to Ducksen's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Have played many servers. Dbag admins are indeed a problem, and this is usually a flashing red siren with attached PSA speakers, as far as red flags go. Indeed. It doesn't affect the actual end result, if anything, I can usually manually start probably 50% faster than the autostart. Most people doing this probably use the interlude to take a piss and get a coffee. It's presence or absence is irrelevant to me, but as always, I'm amused how many people obsess over stuff like this and how other people may be ''cheating'' in some ''only in your own head'' world, likely getting throbbing erections while fantasising about being like ''real pilotsh'' @@ It's also 100% pointless, as I can create a macro to do literally the same thing (and indeed, have done exactly that in other games) in 5-10 minutes using any of the software that typically comes with a stick... and no, there's absolutely no way to prevent it. Ultimately, this serves no purpose other than stroking a power tripping admin's e-peen and making doofus gamers feel ''hardcoar''. It's just........ the height of pointless.- 147 replies

Barthek's Caucasus textures are really nice, and Taz has made some mods for various effects, too. I also recommend the T-45 and A-4 mods, they're both pretty much unofficial free modules at this point, equal to payware give or take a little.

Yeah, that's what they both are. I keep seeing people say that, but I got two duds right here looks like. The new one fixed the issue, but not for long, I have swapped back and forth several times now. They both appear to be DoA. I want a Varjo Aero, but I don't want to spend $2500 getting it =D

I'm starting to regret buying this thing. After 6+ months of flawless performance, I started getting the blinking white light of death. Talked to support via chat and they had me another cable in less than 48 hours. Plugged it in, the light blinked two or three times then went steady. Cured, I thought. After a few minutes of testing, I put it away to mess with the next day. Blinking light was back less than 24 hours later. I won't go into the troubleshooting I did, but I'm certain it's the damn cable. Again. How many corners did they cut on this PoS?

Need recommendation for a gaming laptop
Mars Exulte replied to rkric258's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The best gaming laptop is one that won't fry itself. Decent performance comes at the cost of heat and being unable to run on battery. You must plug a gaming laptop into the wall to game more than 30-40 minutes. ''Portability'' is borderline irrelevant. It's not got separate keyboard and monitor, that's all that matters. Razer, generally, sucks in my experience. IE very poorly suited to purpose. These specs with above mean ''extremely prone to overheating and a very poor choice'', no amount of marketing and vrand recognition can change physics and thermal properties. -
Whatever dude @@

I would think that was obvious, but people keep arguing against it. These are the same kind of people that report pilots on YouTube for exposing GUBMENT SEKRETS filming themselves flying (with permission from their superiors). Was a F-18 guy a while back shut his channel down because people kept threatening to report him to the FBI/CIA.

Yes, I know. This is called ''stuff that's being completely made up from my own assumptions'' And again, multiple aircraft in this game ARE in active service around the world, including some of the SPECIFIC variants we have. Google, even wikipedia, will clear some of this up for you. Correct. The relevant MoDs are usually also involved, particularly on anything modern. I'm sure Boeing, Lockheed, et al, are more than capable of thinking about that on their own. See above. What part of ''buying a license'' isn't making sense here? They DO financially gain. You give them money, they give you permission to use their name and data. Other details vary depending on contract and developer, for example some planes have been described as off limits because the license is prohibitively expensive, etc. It's almost like... these are businesses... making money... and they have... systems and/or legal departments or something in place for these exact scenarios...
-
It doesn't matter if they're in service or not... they ALL still have classified aspects to them. Neither current service, nor classification, are inherently blocks. These are all very modern 2000s variants from the US, the JF-17 is in service, the Eurofighter is definitely in service. That is not a relevant criteria. The criteria is public availability of relevant data points, and the manufacturers willingness to agree to a license. That's it.

This is 100% a user issue, not ''DCS''. All components in your computer should be able to run at 100% indefinitely without issue, they're literally designed for that. If they cannot, you either have a hardware fault or a very poor case design/situation. Even mediocre airflow will prevent overheating in combination with most parts automatically thermal throttling. It has to be substantially bad / dirty in order to ACTUALLY fry something.
-
Half the modules ingame already are in ''active service'', including the specific variants we have.

That is why, after the VEAO debacle, parties are required to submit source code to ED, so they always have the ability to maintain something. Otherwise, it is irrelevant if the Kiowa sees the light of day as they have not collected preorder funds for it, ergo we're owed nothing. Projects start and fail all across the industry every day, that's life. That said, I doubt Polychop is 'dead'. *eyeroll* Some of you just thrive on drama.

option to hide propeller for VR Motion Smoothing
Mars Exulte replied to baco30's topic in DCS Core Wish List
No, it isn't. And the discs both for planes and helos are barely/not visible in the first place in the real life. Especially the rotor on a helo is a poorly done effect in DCS that causes unnecessary stuttering besides being unrealisitic. Real life is not a youtube video, you don't see the shadows, or individual blades with your eyes. The propellor effect we have now is already a big step toward realism because it is greatly reduced from what we had before, and helicopter rotors need to follow suit. It's not ''a game aide'' it's literally ''something that's wrong that needs to be fixed''. -
Three years, as it turns out.

Short History of The "Ejection Seat"
Mars Exulte replied to rwbishUP's topic in Military and Aviation
Yeah, they tried that back in the 60s and it maimed/killed the test bear, shelving the entire project. I seriously doubt they decided to give that a try again just for old time's sake. -

not planned Unreal Engine 5 viable for DCS?
Mars Exulte replied to Bog9y's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It even has holy texts! -

The gnomes coding Vulkan... you're feeding them too much. That's the problem. Reduce them to quarter rations and increase whippings until FPS improves.
-
Strictly speaking, by the time you're looking at various LOD levels it doesn't really matter if the primary one is ''finalised'' or not. From very far away, you could drop the old AI model and never know the difference from a practical standpoint. They're dropping details rapidly as you move away in the first place, so whether the chaingun animations exist, the nosepod swivels, the wheels are exactly round, or the text near the tail rotor is upside down, doesn't really matter.

not planned Unreal Engine 5 viable for DCS?
Mars Exulte replied to Bog9y's topic in DCS Core Wish List
So, in fact, the thread is pointless, like 95% of us already knew. ED aren't going to jump engines to something out of house, and they're definitely not going to do so because of a selection of random forumites waving brochures. So... we are full circle back where we started! Over.... there, I guess. -
not planned Unreal Engine 5 viable for DCS?
Mars Exulte replied to Bog9y's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yeah, they wouldn't have to write a whole new engine... they'd just have to rewrite EVERYTHING ELSE while simultaneously modifying UE5 to be fit to purpose. THINK OF THE SAVINGS!!11!!1! Like they have already done, by working on Vulkan and multicore overhauls... True, and yet these threads pop up with dismaying frequency literally every time some bs advertisement touting *insert* developers latest iteration of *insert* random technology is sent out. Maybe the next time ED talk about the systems work they're doing, they can use some obnoxious fonts, flashing seizure inducing animations, and one of those stock images of the guy sitting in front of TV while his hair gets blown back. That seems to be what the crowd likes to see @@
