  1. Take off the springs and put on a damper and they will stay where you put them. I have a motorcycle damper on my Slaw pedals, twist the knob adjust tension up or down, make em as stiff (or not) as you please. On that note, OP, I'd recommend Slaw's ViperRX. They're literally ''the best'' if money and time are not an issue, as well as being a mechanical work of art. Slaw, man, if you see this, I never stop singing your praises
  2. Even my brother, who doesn't play DCS and has zero interest in flight sims, is excited about the Phantom coming even though he will never play with it.
  3. Correct It's not ''usually a good thing''. It's a necessity. You could have 2,000,000 polys or a 6 sided cube, that doesn't have anything to do with its visibility. That's because some of them are poorly done or outright missing (the MiG-21 used to literally vanish at certain points because they forgot to assign a model to some ranges). It's not an issue with LoDs in general. That is indeed how they work, yes. This is a symptom of them being poorly done, rather. It's not the number of polys. It's the shape, size, and overall appearance. A LoD is literally a 3d model, usually algorithmically reduced polycount that switches on the fly as you get progressively closer. You don't need 2,000,000 polys to resemble an F-16 or to be visible. The overall issue comes down to color and contrast usually, as well as the overall characteristics of the 3d model they're using. Aircraft themselves are usually technically visible (as far as rendering) but they don't contrast very well or sometimes artifact/glitch (I observed a F-18 ''sparkling'' in a bizarre fashion that made it extremely hard to track but that was likely related to my headset). Regardless, it's not the LoDs or polycount that are the issue. It's literally everything else.
  4. Yeah, of course, but it's still a general breakdown on rotor dynamics and very detailed.
  5. Gonna have to go with this guy on this one. Max range, even for the helos, is rarely a factor, as you can generally crisscross the map with a full payload. The ''max range'' is typically well beyond the map edges if one way, and usually around the edges for ''combat radius'' (150 miles for a helo give or take usually, and from the very center of the map that's going to generally be out near the edges of the map). Loiter time is the more relevant statistic in DCS, but that's very variable based on weight, drag, throttle, altitude, temperature, and how closely you actually fly the ideal profile. This is a rare example of wikipedia info being ''good enough'', or even just napkin math for the purposes of mission planning.
  6. Ironically, just moments ago I watched a video of a Russian column doing... exactly this. Literally driving single file into a killzone despite the ones directly in front of them getting popped. In a bizarre way, the current AI is actually not so dissimilar from a real world poorly trained force apparently. It's a shame more times AI isn't actually developed along these lines, ie actually reflecting tactical acumen and reactiveness. Too many of them end up being strictly how aim botty they are, or everybody behaves in exactly the same way whether ''good'' or ''bad''. Real world militaries have a lot more variability in the range of behavior from ''tactical'' to ''imbecilic''. AI skill ''levels'' should ideally reflect that.
  7. Because D4N loves to make ridiculous requests in the dubious quest for ''PvP balance''. I wouldn't sweat worrying about it.
  8. The Ka-50 manual has a lengthy section on rotor dynamics, if you care for a more detailed read. ....... *sigh*
  9. Only if it comes with Arma's wonky physics and AI. I have fond memories of fleeing civilians hitting the deck too close to a wall, glitching through and/or being catapulted into low orbit. To the handwringers, it's not like this is anything new or never been done before. And, speaking as someone with friends and family affected by current events, I still can separate my video games from reality. It's not suddenly more ''bad taste'' to kill imaginary people now then it was thirty days ago just because there are now white europeans being killed in RL. You same guys didn't bat an eye about bombing missions in Syria, Iran, Caucasus before this, and I assure you, their suffering was no less than these others, and in many cases still ongoing. If you're going to play a wargame, then play your wargame, it's fine, but moralising about it is hypocritical and disingenous.
  10. I'm still waiting for Kurt Russell films to be remade. A NUMBAH WON DUKE OF NEW YORK BAAAAAABY!!!!
  11. These days it's mostly plug and play, so don't worry. It's marketing speak for ''See this thing that's almost exactly like this other thing? Yeah, we're gonna charge you 40% more for it cause it has this fancy logo.'' Doesn't matter. Price and the logo. Probably will be for a while. I have literally everything and haven't filled up a 500gb yet. You will EVENTUALLY fill that, though, if you buy just scads of modules, but you can also remove the ones you dislike, don't use, etc. So 1TB should be enough for any reasonable future if it's you're ''DCS drive'' only.
  12. Requesting they expand their product is perfectly fine. Telling somebody else to make THEIR COMMERCIAL PRODUCT OPEN SOURCE because their livelihood is inconvenient to you is just.... *mind explodes*
  13. No, it wouldn't. Ffs, it never ceases to amaze me how loose people are with somebody else's property. ''Oh these mods makers need to do THIS'' or ''Oh ED needs to crack open their business model THAT''.
  14. What else is the internet for if not to pretend we're experts on everything?
  15. I'm really keen on making the switch the Linux, but having spent a fortune on peripherals, I can't make the move without DCS lol I can do without most everything else, but too much invested in this! I'm watching these developments with interest! Make sure you update any references like ProtonDB etc with your experiences!
  16. I would assume that would be the AH-1 Cobra they have started and stopped several times. As recently as a year or so ago it was "in the works" and then more recently "suspended". It would presumably have a lot of potential overlap with the Apache (as far as the video game version goes), and would be a fairly straightforward port for their AI with minimal tweaking. Seems more logical to me at least than starting a completely new project that would require a significant overhaul.
  17. Oh, they're tough alright. @Dragon I think that's a concession for the higher transonic speed range it flies at. It'd have to slow down quite a bit if it had those big ears poking out.
  18. On YouTube? Perish the thought!
  19. It's shuper realishtic, guysh, jeeshush, why do we alwaysh argue about thish? If Lemon can do it, anybody can, all these zhits jusht improve my natural aerodynamicsh!
  20. Yeaaaaaaaaaaahhhh.... That's what we all expected to happen, for sure. Imagine our surprise.
  21. That has literally always been the case. You can find stars and stripes, union jacks, and russian stars everywhere. You can throw a rock and hit twenty people with their nation's colors. Politics isn't being discussed to any significant extent that I've seen. As for the other, you'll just have to suck it up and tolerate it. Not all views and opinions are equal, and not all things are "wrong" to have an opinion of, sometimes "right and wrong" is clear cut.
  22. Ah, I see. Well, it's not a problem to run sound through multiple devices simultaneously even in Windows. Use the ''WhatUHear'' selection in the Windows sound options and select what additional device you want it to play through. There's no problem routing sound for example through the shakers, and also to your headset or sound system, and then in DCS you have the option of further separating radio/game sounds if desired.
  23. How is it different from any other module or 3rd party? What relevance does ''native'' have to anything? No, they don't really. They cause a lot of vibration though, so you have to be... conscientious about placement... to avoid angering your neighbors.
  24. Yeah, it's more than just ''damage to the nose''. It's completely wrecked. Just noticed the photo was already posted.
  25. It was definitely a modern marvel, but probably more practical options available. It was nice to be able to load literally anything into it, though. That's where most the avionics are. Also wouldn't take much damage throughout to severely compromise integrity. When this is over though, rebuilding the 225 will be the least of their concerns.
