Tunguska's missiles are not radar guided, it just uses it for tracking, but is not dependent on it for either guns or missiles. As for radar guided missiles in general, you should not be high enough for them to see you in the first place, so... that's on you 90% of the time. As for the Sa-15 specifically, that is probably one of the absolute worst things you could run into in the field, as it's intended as point defense for intercepting low flying targets and even missiles. Chaff probably won't do you much good as you'll be dead by the time you know it's shooting at you But again, if you're getting spotted by radar SAMs, either you're too high or coming from a bad direction or simply should be going someplace else. There is no cure for bad tactics except good ones. IE if you're getting killed by blundering into situations you shouldn't be in, the solution is NOT doing that, not some stuff on your aircraft.

NEW DCS SOVIET AIRCRAFT from 2022 Trailer... MiG-27???
Mars Exulte replied to CommandT's topic in DCS 2.9
The F-4 that was flown in the Gulf War and is flown by multiple countries around that part of the world? That F-4? Regardless, they're two separate entities. One is a map, the other is a plane, they are not required to be directly relevant to one another. -
I'm not trolling. Subs17 is an ALIEN INFILTRATOR, we must wait patiently for the HUMAN DEFENSE FORCES to form, led by that guy from Green Mile and fight off an ALIEN invasion force led by an alien that looks a lot like JOHN TRAVOLTA. It's a lot like the documentary MEN IN BLACK where different celebrities are secretly ALIENS.
-
@SUBS17 is a traitor to HUMANITY. He was sent to the EARTH from PLANET JOCKSTRAP to help the baby eating WICCA and ALIEN GRAYS take over the EARTH.

MiG-23 has a 23mm. It's the MiG-27 that had the 30mm gatling gun, briefly. You can tell them apart by the drooping nose. MiG-31 has it, too, I believe, though I think they usually fly without ammo.

The people you're worried about aren't using ingame comms in DCS or any other game. Most servers have been using SRS for years, and most people play along with that as it appeals to the simulator mentality. There's no reason to expect it to be otherwise now. The people who are interested in it will be using it properly ingame. The ones that aren't won't be using it period.

An increasingly large number of games have included mod management. To name just few the entire Arma series, BattleTech, Elder Scrolls, Mount and Blade, I am sure I could go on at length. We're not exactly taling revolutionary technology or something that hasn't been done 9000 times as a quality of life UI function in other games.

@@ Obviously not Yes, linking directly to the sales brochure will surely bolster your argument @@ If by that you mean only rendering what's in your field of view and unobstructed by other objects, that's been a thing for a LOOOOONG time now. A company trying to sell a product speaks about said product in glowing terms. I never saw it coming! Yeah, they did when they wrote their own engine and started porting it to the Vulkan API.
-
You have literally taken a sales brochure, read it, and said ''Wow, all these fantastic things must be 100% true and applicable to every scenario imaginable!'' It MIGHT mean that MAYBE Tldr Do you know anything about cars? Do you think you can simply take a Toyota Corolla and drop a 500hp V8 in it and it will turn it into a sports car? No, you also need to change the intake, exhaust, suspension, strengthen the frame, install a turbo or supercharger, adjust fuel air ratios, get wider soft compound tires, new transmission, major structural modifications to allow for all the above. No, you cannot simply ''drag and drop'' a new game engine and expect to get anything from it. It would mean throwing everything they have now, and everything they've done for Vulkan, in the trash and starting over with a new project that would take years to complete... and by then somebody will have released a new brochure with flashy language and you'll be writing this post again.

They have been tweaking the AI over the last couple years. Regarding AI planes though, it's not that they ''fly perfectly'' it's that they use a different flight model that doesn't necessarily have the same restrictions yours does. The F-5 and MiG-15 are the two worst offenders, so they ''punch above their weight''.

Not long, the drawing stuff was just added over the last few patches.

Most of them do these days, afaik. Any game USB DirectX compatible controller will work. The Saitek panels do not work because they are NOT standard DirectX items, they're proprietary and made for a specific software (FSX, I think). Complain to Saitek for not using the universally supported standard used by the rest of the planet, not ED. If you mean Thrustmaster Cougars, they ARE supported (see above). If you mean a video image exported to a separate monitor, also supported, but you still have to set it up, there is no magic way for DCS to know exactly what you're trying to do. You have to tell it. Those mods do not belong to ED. They are none of ED's business. If the developers of those mods want to apply for developer status, there is a system in place for them to do so. It is also not up to ED or the developers themselves, either. They must ALSO acquire a license from the owner of that aircraft (Boeing, Lockheed, BAE, etc). So, no. They cannot simply hoover up your favorite mods. There are thousands of people around here who do not understand how the dev environment works, yes =) It's a lot more user friendly than it used to be More importantly, anything you might want to do at this point has already been done by someone else. Don't hesitate to ask around for help if you're trying to do something and are unsure how to proceed. And don't be afraid to mess with files, either! Always make a copy of something before you change it, that way you can always go back to an untouched version. I've been modding almost since I could reach the keyboard. It's usually not that hard, especially in an established game like this where most the footwork's already been done.

Test flying by chords(!) and not visual cues only
Mars Exulte replied to jonfog's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Pilots relying on ''feel'' and disregarding what their instruments are telling them is one of the leading causes of fatalities in flight. Sukhoi lost an airliner full of people (while attempting to sell said airliner to said people) because the pilot decided to wing it and disregard his instruments telling him there was a mountain in front of him. Also a F-16 guy in a recent interview that described getting so disoriented he didn't know up from down and lawndarted into the ocean. We're not missing THAT much by not have feel. -
This word does not mean what you seem to think it means. Which is completely irrelevant when talking about the performance of its radar. Again, irrelevant. These terms are not as separate as you seem to think they are, in short ''air superiority'' means the aircraft is dedicated toward seizing airspace, ie F-15s and F-22s. The Viper is an excellent dogfighter close in, but it's markedly inferior at BVR to ANY larger dedicated air superiority fighter. Everyone say it with me now, ''Bigger plane, bigger radar. Smaller plane, smaller radar.'' It's literally that simple, barring some drastic generational gap and even then the smaller radar may be overall more capable/fancy but still is likely to have inferior range and power... because it's smaller. Your wife lied. Size matters.
-
The Viper is not and never was the ''premier'' air to air fighter (the first ones did not even CARRY radar guided missiles). It's too small for a more powerful radar, for starters. The F-15 (and later F-22) are the ''premier'' air to air fighters, designed for that role specifically. The F-16 is a jack of all trades ''do everything competently'' kind of aircraft. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

Title. I previously uninstalled WMR, the Store, generally everything possible. I got the store reinstalled, did a SFC check, ran a couple of command line resets for the internet connection and Windows store, updated Windows, etc etc. I'm still trying solutions, but figured I'd put this here and get it cooking in case anybody else has encountered it. I'm still searching the forums here, too, of course, will update if I figure out a solution. Context : Reverb G2 arrived today, issues with Windows @@ not the headset, because fml.... -edit Found an update to the Store, and also ran this PowerShell admin command : Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Some of them have twist adapters, unless they discontinued them. The VKB Gunfighter, for example, has an adapter for TM Warthog grip, and then an adapter for twist. It's not gotta be either/or You can have both https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=tm-warthog-adapter https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gladiator-upgrade-kit-lite-w-mcg-bundle-2

requested Proposal for VR head limits implementation
Mars Exulte replied to kablamoman's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Is this really the best explanation you guys have got for losing a fight? You weren't outflown... IT WAS A VR GUY!!! The low res and disorientation is just a clever cover for 360 no-scopes! The mental gymnastics people go through around here trying to rationalise their bs pet peeves as anything other than a pet peeve. You guys need to get laid or something. -
December was a blatant money grab anyway. Never trust pre-orders!
-
Possibly with some scripting. Somebody more knowledgable will chime in soon. Your most practical bet would be to get a stick that has integrated twist. Most low to mid range sticks have a twist function (X-56 for example).

You forgot Slaw's ViperRX! -
I doubt that. Tobii's been around a while now and is far from replacing anything. It's more likely imo that Tobii ends up going the way of the Nintendo Powerglove.
