Any Cougar FSSB Owners Using BS
mckee14 replied to Nightcargo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
a friend of mine is flying BS with the FFSB, and he thinks it's "ok" with it, read: he feels that you don't get any disantvatages by doing so. but, he claims that it is not worth only for blackshark. when flying only the shark, he would recomment to keep the vanilla cougar... -
uhm... he is part of the ED testers team. and by the way, a general rule of life - think first, then talk/write. the way you behave is way off the adult level... be nice to other ppl and everyone will try to help you, act like you do it right now and in short time NO ONE will help you any longer.
-
a sidenote - and please, don't ask my WHY, because it makes NO SENSE AT ALL. but, when i ENABLE 8xAA, the frames are better that with no AA or with 4xAA. strange, but true... (8800 GT, 512mb)

^as long as you have only 1 computer, that's the easiest way. the PC will always get the same IP from the router, because he is always the first (and only) one who requests one :) problems start, when the router tries to send data to a IP different than the actual internal one. with static internal IP, one can define the port forwarding/triggering to that adress in the router without throwing the whole PC into the DMZ...
-
that's why i hold down the trimbutton while turning. this way, the heading hold is not active, no AP try to fight you.
-
same here - flares and exploding blacksharks are not good for the frames, as well as big AI battles / a lot of triggers running...

don't mix up your external IP with a internal IP. the external IP can change from time to time, sometimes it changes every 24 hrs, sometimes you have the same IP over weeks (like you). this IP is your external one, and the clients need to enter this IP to connect (or select your server via the server browser). the mentioned static IP is your internal IP behind a router. this way, the router gets the external IP, and usually that router hands out internal IPs for every PC, network printer etc. via DHCP. means - the first PC connecting to the router gets a 192.168.0.100, the next one 192.168.0.101 and so on (depending on your DHCP settings, these numbers can be different) when creating a static IP: 1. you tell your router to ALWAYS hand out the same internal IP to a specific PC (or whatever). with my router, i can assign the IP to a MAC-adress. so, everytime i start up my PC, it asks the router for a IP and gets every time the same one. still, the IPs are handed out by DHCP, so all the rest is done automatically (subnetmask etc). 2. with some routers, you need to deactivate DHCP for this. then, you also need to tell your PC what his IP is, what subnetmask, gateway and DNS he has to use (because these informations are not delivered by the router without DHCP) how to do this is perfectly documented on the site TheMoose linked. I just try to give you a idea about internal, external and static IPs... and sorry if some things sound strange or are not 100% accurate, english is not my native language :). but more or less, it should match...

both works, but i prefer to hold the trim button down the entire time. pro/con: + no oversteering of the actual set heading, turns better/smoother - you have to hold that button down the whole time, so depending on your joystick and profile this is not very helpful at all and maybe make things more complicated by oversteering and only pressing the trim button once: + no need to hold that button down, more "precise" stick control possible - when reaching the new heading, chances are that you still have some rudder and/or bank on your pedals/stick. when pressing the trim button, the values of the axis input are set, and it's really easy to screw up the "flight profile"... the shark starts to dance, wobble, whatever when only tapping the trim button, it's just really important to be aware of that fact, and to center the pedals before tapping. everytime. always. no excuse :) holding down the button while doing changes got second nature really fast, and since then i have eliminated 90% of my WTF-moments when flying the shark.

Hosting with black shark i think i found a bug
mckee14 replied to graywo1fg's topic in Bugs and Problems
i have no problems to connect to servers, and "no problems" to host a server (exept the clients need to enter the port 10308 manually). so, i could help you out with testing, but i'm located in switzerland (GMT +1)...depends on the hours you could be online... -
toothless? sure, one can not fly with autopilot-terrainfollowing in pitch dark at 300km/h, while looking 20km with the FLIR, track heatsignatures, deploy fire-and-forget missiles over 20km and sing the song of glory halleluja. but, one can deploy 40 rockets in a camp of evil persons, one can take out heavy armoured vehicles over 7km distance while they are on the move, one can support ground troops in urban areas with a kick-ass-30mm gun, one can fly really awesome maneuvers while hiding between some buildings, one can share targets over datalink and still having a good sense for the environment by staying in contact with the abris. i really love new technologies, modern weapon development and stuff, but i totally fell in love with this (rusty harhar) piece of flying metal - because it not only needs to learn 100 buttons to complete all the tasks by semi-automatic systems, but it needs skill to fly this beauty...

the 3 AP channels should remain on ALWAYS, no matter what... so just hold down the trim for heading changes, this way the AP does not try to hold the "old" heading and it works like a dream. sure, you can activate the flight director mode, but this way you kill all the AP "helping", have more buttons to click, and you have to trim more - a lot more workload, just for making a turn... so just hold down the trim button, make the turn, wait until the bird is stabilised, release trim.

out of the www: and i think that's one reason, why they use depleted uranium for the cores. if i watch the video of a A-10 on the testrange ( - at 0:40), it looks like the bullets are doing a lot of damage per bullet. compared to the effect on tanks in blackshark, it's massively more...
-
the GAU-8 uses uranium depleted ammunition, that's the main reason why it ripps tanks like paper. with the uranium core, each single bullet has a lot more weight (in the same size), and therefore a lot more cinetical energy is generated/"slammed into the target" when the bullet hits something. (not all the bullets are uranium depleted - they usually carry a mixture of them together with some HE rounds) this, plus the higher rate of fire, plus the higher muzzle velocity = maximum destruction possible :) the GAU-8 was not built into the A-10; the A-10 was built around that (absolutely oversized fancy bling bling) gun... that's also why the front wheel is not centered but off to one side. and, when going with high rate of fire, pilots should not fire bursts longer than 1 second, or the plane is risking to fall out of the sky because it gets slowed down from the recoil... which is 40,82 kN! uhmmm.... yep, i really can't wait to get the hog! ;)

Hosting with black shark i think i found a bug
mckee14 replied to graywo1fg's topic in Bugs and Problems
you see, there are several servers with a wrong port in the list :) gray - did you also forward the port in the windows firewall? antivirus? routet to the correct IP? when the port is manually corrected by the clients, they must be able to connect. if not, something is really wrong :) btw - even with a wrong port number, clients usually can connect, but they don't show a ping in the chatlobby, the can not unpause the game, and after a short time they get disconnected... -
A Poor Man's Dynamic Campaign Engine
mckee14 replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
as the whole DCS line is a product continuously maintained by the producers, a lot of things will change over time. there will be a new engine some day, there will be more and different triggers in a patch, there will be new AI with the new modules or patch, the GUI may change etc. so it makes not much sense to put a lot of effort in a campaign-generator, and maybe in 4 months there comes the brand new dynamic campaign :) -
Hosting with black shark i think i found a bug
mckee14 replied to graywo1fg's topic in Bugs and Problems
i can confirm that i have the correct port set in the config, but still the port shown by the server browser is wrong. btw guys - even if blackshark SHOWS a different port in the lobby/serverbrowser, just overwrite it with the port that is forwarded and the server runs on (default 10308). it does NOT change the port BS is running on, it just SHOWS a wrong number... -
fast rotation while autohovering?
mckee14 replied to docehrenhoefer's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
you can even use the auto-hover for braking :) just hit "autohover" mode when you are still flying forward with around 100km/h, and the shark pulls the nose up like nothing. then, QUICKLY deactivate it, wait 2 seconds, repeat untill your in a stable hover. but you have to get used to it, because you need to either be very reactive with the collective, or VERY QUICKLY deactivate the altitude hold after activating the heading hold. otherwise, your shark gets confused when trying to slow down, back up to the old position to hover, and holding the altitude at the same time... -
i think he means, that the helo didn't turn and head back to the "begin loop" steerpoint, but instead just flew along with the same heading for 20 minutes... but i have no clue about loop-steerpoints at all

What's being fixed in the upcoming patch?
mckee14 replied to Nate--IRL--'s topic in Bugs and Problems
i think as a first step it would be good, if you can add more than 1 picture for MP missions - so the mission creator can add different levels of zoom, from different target areas etc, recon pictures etc. it's possible for SP campaigns, but not for MP missions... the falcon missionbriefing was very nice, but almost too much of it - because you could zoom on every position on the whole map and were able to see single units almost in realtime, exact positions, formations, elevation etc. sure it's possible to overwiev certain areas in realtime by drones and satelites, but not the whole battlefield with a almost "magic eye". i don't think that realtime pilots have that many detailed informations and options before a mission... general overwiev of terrain, known and estimted threads, different vectors, ROEs, stuff like this. and this could be done with the possibility to add up to 10 pictures per mission. really nice would be to have different text attached to each picture, instead of 1 text for all the pictures - 1st page general briefing and overwiev, switching to the next picture brings new text with details for it... just a "comfort" function, but i'd like it :) just my 2 cts -
inside the ME, the INU update point is on the right spot. but inside the cockpit, this point is on a different position... i thought, the updating of the INU is done by setting a locked or hovering-over spot to pre-defined coordinates? so, are the coordinates set correct, but just shown wrong on the ABRIS? that would be nice...

Hosting with black shark i think i found a bug
mckee14 replied to graywo1fg's topic in Bugs and Problems
you have the port forwarded in the router? as a client, you don't have to do this, but as the host you will. otherwise, the people can see the server, but when they try to connect they can not connect at all, or (more likely) they can join, but you will not get a ping from them. after some seconds, they "disconnect" on your side, on their side they see "server has been shut down". and it is normal, that there is a PAUSE symbol when you start the server. you have to press the PAUSE-button to start the mission. be aware, that if the portforwarding is not working, the clients will still see the pause symbol, even if you already started the mission (and some moments later, they disconect) make sure: 1. you have the port 10308 forwarded to the actual (internal) IP of your computer. (setting this IP as a fix one would be helpful) check www.portforward.com for more infos 2. check your external IP and give it to a client (which is able to connect to other servers) 3. set up your server, start the misson. when starting, check the interface, and set a passwort. also, check the port is the standard one, which you have forwarded (10308) 4. start the server and start the mission - be in the pit, un-pause the mission. 5. press ECS, then POOL 6. tell the client to connect. when connecting, he can enter the IP manually or search by the list. as soon as he connects, a window will ask for the password. there will also be shown the IP and the port - make sure the client CHECKS the port! if it's not 10308, he has to change it manually (like xx.yy.xx.yy:10308) 7. the client should then enter the password and connect 8. while he is connecting, you will see his name in the POOL, and on the bottom, next to the name, you will see his PING. check, if he has a ping as soons as connected. 9. when he gets a ping, he should be able to fly on your server. if not, the problem is most likely your portforwarding. -> if he doesn't get a ping, has the pause button and disconnects, try it without router. if it works without router, it's almost for sure the forwarding... -
as i remember, the ABRIS/GNSS system is not very precise on its own - something around +/- 1000 meters/3000ft ? i'm really not sure... the "perform NAV POS fix" is for updating the INS to a predefined point, and therfore very precise. BUT - there is a problem with this function, because the INU fixpoint is placed wrong on the map and abris! try it out, create a mission with only one INU fixpoint placed on a building next to the airport or something. start the mission and check abris - the fixpoint is not where it should be, it's always misplaced by one "minute" (don't remember if LAT or LONG). the workaraound would be to manually set / change the fixpoint with the PVI, but in the manual is nothing about it... there is the information, that "targetpoints or waypoints" can manually be entered, but not fixpoints. so we need a patch for it, or a workaround form the dev's i assume.

What's being fixed in the upcoming patch?
mckee14 replied to Nate--IRL--'s topic in Bugs and Problems
i read something about the "deactivation"-trigger for the ME, which is already coded and will be in the next "patch/module". hopefully they also manage to fix all the other triggers, so they work for MP missions :) -
you have to be in the normal route/flight mode to see it. as soon as you activate the shkval, the HUD changes. when you activate the hover mode, just press the weapon mode reset (?) button, and it should show up... EDIT: no, NOT with flight director on. with the flight director ON, hover mode will not work at all :)

thx guys, but i DO know how to setup a profile for a specific software which will get auto-loaded by startup of the software, as well as how to apply the settings :) believe me, it did NOT work - i HAD to delete the profile in the profiles list an set it global, then it works. like i said, i never had such an issue with any other program and i almost went crazy because with no AA it really does not look that well heh. some other guy in the forums wrote about deleting the nvidia profile for blackshark, and it worked, so no more problems now... it's not tragic, because i play BS 99% of my computertime now anyways ;)
