  1. I like the hands-on approach flying the P-51, but I like the navigational aids that you get with the newer craft, particularly the A10C and the KA-50. I'm not a huge fan of BVR - the concept is neat but I don't think it translates to fun gameplay. Therefore I've found myself playing the Ka-50 more than any other aircraft right now. I can fly hands on with Flight Director, or let the autopilot do its work; the avionics are solid (though I hate that ABRIS isn't connected to the other waypoint thingy ... PVI something) if a bit clumsy to use without a keyboard like the A10 has; and it's a good platform for modern weapons like the VIKHRs for tank busting and a reasonably powerful gun. All in all, I really dig the Ka-50, my only complaint would be that it doesn't have heat sensors to pick up targets at night, and in general finding ground targets with labels off is difficult. (could be an artifact of the game itself and resolution limitations however)
  2. hm the fact that you are allowing labels is a big plus for me. I fly ka-50 most of the time and find it very frustrating on other servers to be able to find ground targets, especially those that are moving and fire back! I'm going to have to check this server out tonight.
  3. You might consider the Huey instead of the Gazelle if you want a really different heli flying experience. I have both Huey and KA-50, and I actually felt the Huey easier to fly at first because it's more ... manual ... like the difference between driving a car with automatic vs clutch. With the clutch you feel closer to the engine, you feel more "in control" - but the automatic is so much more convenient and it gives you the headspace for situational awareness (or sipping that cup of coffee). Once I became familiar with the KA-50 control systems and the concept of trimming (in that the trimmer is in fact a form of autopilot) it became much easier and I've been flying it much more lately. But there is something to be said about the earthy feel of flying that Huey.
  4. It would be nice if we could have labels on the ground targets for hte KA-50s, I find it nigh on impossible to locate ground targets in some areas, specifically the incursion and armored convoy, before they find me.
  5. Cool video. I wonder if the lag on the hud is true to actual performance or is that just a development placeholder.
  6. Hey AC are you using any texture mods? Runway looks unusually good in that first shot
  7. I have been flying exclusively KA-50 lately and FINALLY I'm at the point where I can pretty much control the thing and make sense of the various autopilot stuff. less bobbing and weaving all over the place, more controlled turns - I even went on Flight Director mode and manually flew through valleys along the river bed on my way to LIS. The thing I like about OC is that it's noob friendly enough that I prefer to use it as a training area for the single-player campaigns, rather than the opposite. More freedom to experiment, more space to get my bearings. Some of the things like the mission planner etc that are not available in multiplayer are a shame when it comes to setting up waypoints, but then again it prompted me to learn how to manually create flightplans in the cockpit of the A10C, and I've even dabbled in setting up flight plans in the ABRIS. Heck, I might even try out the teamspeak soon.
  8. make sure flight director button is OFF when you go into auto-hover
  9. This might seem like a strange question. I spend most of my time playing on multiplayer servers, especially Open Conflict. One thing that frustrates me is I have a hard time actually finding the moving ground targets for convoys and especially incursions within towns, such as AA emplacements. What do you folks do to spot targets, especially those that might be hidden among buildings and trees? I've observed that if I am spotted first I'm usually dead a short time later :D
  10. PS people that go on and on about the ABRIS on the KA-50 clearly haven't learned the A10's systems ... :D
  11. I find myself often wishing that the other modules had some of the things the A10C has, especially when it comes to setting up nav and flight plans on the fly. Powerful piece of equipment in terms of flexibility of the systems. Most of the other birds feel like a step back after learning the A10C.
  12. I thought you said QUICK reference ... :D
  13. It's been a few weeks now. Have any profiles emerged that are being adopted by the community?
  14. Man I've been away for a few weeks and now it seems the server is more popular than ever! Maybe we need to do some donation to get a second server with same ruleset and skynet set up!
  15. Call London on comms, they are the farps, the first one on list will be closestt to you. You can get vectors from atc. Believe you have to tune to 127.500
  16. yep hoping we can get OC pushed to 1.5.6 asap
  17. just a quick note that 1.5.6 has gone up on the steam Beta opt-in. If you're using the Steam version of the game to play on pre-1.5.6 servers, you'll have to opt out of beta.
  18. Once the F16s report "on station" then you should direct them to attack. There should be some text about this in the mission briefing. They are waiting on your orders before commencing the SEAD. Once you tell them to attack they will clean house though and you can just focus on the MIGs.
  19. Well, I did upgrade to 1.5.6 because I bought the Viggen. It's viggen awesome! Desperately needs some HOTAS profiles included. I don't get why the devs don't include some profiles for the popular gear, surely they are using various HOTAS in their testing? Noticed a slight performance issue when first loading into the world in 1.5.6, but once it loads in fully it seems fine. Looking forward to OC making the upgrade soon. For now when I want OC action I play my Steam version, but it doesn't have all the modules I've purchased. I noticed lately that when I play in US Eastern time zone, in the afternoons the servers hits 31/31 capacity pretty regularly. I know the server is resource heavy but I am really looking forward to the day that they optimize dedicated server and we can bump that number of players up to 64.
  20. Question ... if I've upgraded to 1.5.6 does that mean I won't be able to see Open Conflict anymore?
  21. Mirknir any plans to add forward observer or other slots for Combined Arms?
  22. To me a dynamic campaign means that the server generates missions in real-time based on current conditions on the battlefield. The missions should be linked to the extent possible between different roles; a SEAD should have an associated CAP, and then if successful a follow-up strike on a base or other target (or conversely, clearing the way for a base to be rebuilt with resupply mission). For it to be worthwhile the outcomes of the missions should have a tangible, semi-permanent impact on the battlefield. I don't suggest that aircraft slots should be impacted on either side, but maybe the front should move as bases or other points of interest are taken or lost. I think it would be worthwhile looking into adding slots for Combined Arms, I've seen a video or two of it in action on other servers and it looks like it would add a really interesting dynamic. To accomodate the reset every X hours, perhaps the objectives that can be captured or lost should be limited to a specific area, at least to start, and hopefully as the dedicated server is developed for 2.0 in the longer term we can have a battlefield that runs for several days or even a week. But regardless of run time, at the end of the period the total points gained by each side can be tallied and a winner declared. How you would actually communicate the winner, who knows - would it be possible to have the server dynamically post the previous cycle's winner on the briefing screen? Anyway, all kinds of interesting ideas and of course this is all volunteer work on Mirknir's part, I'm sure any part of the above that could be implemented would be much appreciated but we certainly can't expect it.
  23. SUpposedly they are working on a dedicated server that won't require a graphics card, maybe when that happens we can all chip in for Mirknir to host a server on amazon or something and have more slots open :)
  24. I just aim the tgp at the lowest front point of the target that I can to help compensate against the bomb flying over. I was able to hit 3 out of 4 drops with GBUs on the oil platform last night
  25. I picked up Combined Arms during the holiday sale though I haven't really gotten into it yet. Any chance of adding a couple of forward observer slots to the server ... ;)
