What is a great starter plane for me and my Oculus Rift
bell_rj replied to jozeff's topic in Virtual Reality
I would suggest the F-5E. Not too hard to learn but still enough depth to feel a sense of satisfaction with startup and flying. Some cockpit knobs for startup but not too many needed in flight. Easy to fly but more challenging to master, especially when flying with a reasonably heavy loadout. -
I'm very interested in this subject so thanks for this video. Very encouraging to see the updates.

This is a really good update. I will definately be flying this when it is released.

For those who played DID Tornado back in the day, does the Viggen strike mission experience feel a bit like that gameplay? It sounds like it might. Finger over the purchase button here...

I don't like your poll... :( I've picked F-16 which I what I'd want most. BUT... I don't want ED to develop that next. For the long term good of the game they need to do a full fidelity Redfor plane.

If it helps, I extracted the files successfully using 7-zip - a reputable, lightweight, and free zip file manager.

I believe I am correct in the context of JTAC usage. "Battle Damage Assessment" is done by intel analysts after a strike (e.g. using photo or satellite recon).
-
Very, very nice work indeed! Downloaded. Thank you.
-
BDA is bomb damage assessment. Don't forget "What's our vector, Victor?".
-
Lovely photos, thank you. But why do the Jap planes look like they've been covered in squares of duck tape?
-
Ah well, you see this is why we (and others in other forums such as Reddit) are discussing this. They often forget, which is quite annoying. I'm British by the way, so you should take "quite annoying" as an understatement. ;)
-
Well, as a developer (and I used to be one too) you know that a professional developer does changelogs as well as writing commented and well structured code - and both are actual work. Yes, they can be an annoying distraction - a bit like timesheets - but they serve a very good purpose for a very important bunch of people. I don't think we're asking too much here by asking for public changelogs.
-
No, I did not forget. There is nothing in my profile, signature, or posts to suggest that I represent ED, one of their partners, any third party, or have been elected as some sort of community/customer spokesperson. Therefore it may reasonably be assumed that I post as an individual. Since we are not the Borg, I must be speaking my own mind and only for myself.

Is the key for both functions the same? It sounds like you're talking about the F-5E drag chute because that uses the same command for those actions. If so, that is programmed in DCS and doesn't mean the slider a 2 way switch, unfortunately.
-
You might like to know that the "thumb-not-a-slider" can be programmed as a two way switch in the Rhino software (advanced command). I use for "speedbrake on" and speedbrake off" commands for my F-5E and AV-8B. There are Youtube videos hat describe how to do it.

Please ED, for the sake of your customers, only accept patches if they are accompanied by patch notes. It's annoying (as well as being very unprofessional) that changes are being released without patch notes and what's more it is easily within ED's control to resolve this rediculous situation. This is not some freeware mobile app but an expensive product and lacking patch notes for any code distributed by ED is totally inappropriate.

Hi LOGIRich, thanks for replying. The only other software for game controllers I have is for Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals. I also have OpenTrack installed for head tracking, but that has been installed for months without issue. I hadn't made any changes to the default profile that I recall. The only thing I can think of is that I experimented on my AV8B profile with trying to set different keypresses for the 3 modes but couldn't get it to work properly. I might well re-install the Rhino software and try again. Tonight my throttle worked fine for an hour of play still mapped directly in DCS. I'll also mention that I have the throttle plugged into a powered docking station USB 3.0 port, and the stick into a rear motherboard USB 3.0 port. Please could you confirm what button presses I should expect to see in the profile test screen when the mode button is set to any of positions 1, 2, or 3? I.e. if set to '1' I assume I shouldn't be seeing 1's repeated infinitely - is that correct? And the same goes for mode position 2 and 3? Should I be seeing nothing (if no other buttons are being pressed at the same time), or should I see one occurrence per mode position switch?
-
Related to the problem reported by @tothesky I have something similar, but very weird. After months of ok operation my X-55 throttle started playing up yesterday by repeatedly sending 1's (shown in the profile test screen) while the mode switch was set to 1. Sometimes I could get it to repeatedly send 2's or 3's if I moved the mode switch - but not always. Then the jumplist on the first taskbar application started opening (shortcut: Win + alt + 1). I cleared the profile which didn't fix it. A reboot would stop it, for a while but then it returned. The odd thing is, when it was occurring, even unplugging all USB and PS2 devices did not stop the 1's appearing. It seemed to be the case that the Rhino software had gone loopy and was generating the keypresses. So last night I uninstalled it, and set up the HOTAS key mappings in DCS only which worked fine. It doesn't make much sense to me why the Rhino software might have been the cause but since the keypresses kept coming after unplugging all input devices of any sort, I can't explain it any other way. Have you heard of this sort of issue being caused by the software?
-
Agreed, and since CBUs are such a fun weapon to use when they work as intended, I really hope this is addressed soon.
-
That's good news. It was a minor issue but well worth changing.
-
Congrats! Any investment by ED in communications with their retail customers is good news for us all. I hope this enables you to help develop the breadth and depth of DCS news dissemination even further in the future. There is so much we want to know about, and so much to talk about. Good luck in your new role.

Status of DCS Douglas A-4E Skyhawk?
bell_rj replied to D4n's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
There is. There has been a tragic event affecting the dev team. Go to the Hoggit subreddit on Reddit and it will be immediately obvious what due to the header image. Then check the sticked thread. If you want to read about it on this forum then do some searching. The info is easy to find. -
That's precisely what I did. I downloaded 1.5.8 anew, installed it, then upgraded it to 2.5 OB. I did that because I only had 2.2 installed and didn't want to wait to try the OB. Then once I knew 2.5 worked fine and I'd copied my mods, missions, skins, input profiles etc I deleted 2.2.
