  1. I have decided to wait until we have something that is confirmed to run DCS on the 5k+. Not only is the 2080ti expensive, AMD has a 7nm card in the pipeline.
  2. They are both compromises so there is no "right" answer. It looks like 5k+ will be playable in IL2 with my 1080. I may stick with that for the time beeing. I have little hope for the 2080ti beeing able to run DCS, at least initially, so i will sit on my money until someone says they got that thing running.
  3. Yes, feedback is good. I think VR is the part of the market that will win DCS new customers. By all accounts it looks like Pimax has pulled off the next gen VR headset. Sadly, it looks like i will be stuck with a G-14 and a sip of MW for the time beeing.
  4. StarVR is is not in question to me due to its price. Remember, in 2 years time there will be a better headset than either of these for sale.
  5. Pimax has earlier said that the 8k is upgradeable to 8kx. This will involve removing the scaling chip and installing other cables. Scaling is a must at this point in time, as there are no GPU's that will run at native 8k. So even if the 5k+ is slightly better at this point in time, my argument is that the 8k will have a better lifespan. The foveated rendering will hopefully give the 2080ti enough power to run at native. Time will tell of course, but to make the right decision, system, GPU and headset all come in to play.
  6. I think it is worth to notice that the eye tracking module is likely to favor the 8k.
  7. A key question here is if DCS intends to support DLSS. By upscaling images for higher resolutions and VR, we may see a substantial increase in terms of frame rates. For now I will hold on to my money.
  8. Another thing of note is the real world requirements for GPU to run this thing. On my 1080, I expect to have to run it with reduced FOV in DCS. I also see they have some issues with rendering darkness and colors. DCS applies filters and hues to render effects of natural light. Perhaps it is possible to give VR users more options to turn them off to improve image clarity. An example of this is the HUD on the F-18, it consist of 2 layers, and on my Pimax 4k it gets to be to dark in less optimal lighting conditions. (attacking a ground target in shadow is most pronounced)
  9. Don`t get the negrepping. The tech in the 8k is a huge leap forward. If you don`t like the idea of buying from a Chinese startup, the competition will surely pick it apart, improve on its flaws, and offer something better. Pay no heed to negreppers that never tested the product.
  10. We detest your attempt at sanity.
  11. Must be your use then, mine is as good as new.
  12. I know no more than what the update says. They are working on it and will deliver sometime later. They use the Tobii system, so this probably depends on when they can deliver. I might have been quick on that one.
  13. Yes.
  14. No, it is just software that enables lighthouse to work without using steam. And yes, October is a disappointment but not really something Pimax can do anything about. The 8k will use lighthouse 2.0, and they are not yet for sale.
  15. Pimax 8K status update Posted by Pimax 8K VR (Creator) Hi Futurists, We have recorded all your questions and double checked the progress with the team. There are quite a lot to share today: M1 closed beta We will ship M1 to the closed beta testers this month. There will be around 10 Pimax 8K testing units in total. Kickstarter shipping After super intensive development and testing, now we are very confident about M1. The plan is to start the shipments in June if testers give the green light. As always, we will take the suggestions from the community into consideration to finalize Pimax 8K. 5K shipping time We will ship 5K and 8K in the same time frame. Brainwarp Brainwarp is proven feasible in the lab. We will test it in the new hardware structure and will adopt Brainwarp in the final version. Refresh rate 8K is stable at 80Hz. The team is still trying to improve the refresh rate. The worst case is 80Hz when we start to ship. 5K can reach 90Hz. Roadshows We plan to hold meetups in different cities when the working units of the controllers are ready. Controllers The working units (prototype v1) will be ready in June/July, and the shipping time will be Q4. Lighthouses We plan to ship the lighthouses in Oct. Pi-tracking We have been working on Pi-tracking. The prototype has passed the internal test. We are testing a new prototype for public demo and will showcase our solution when ready. Audio quality and specs We have finished the design and will demo the mockup when ready. Oculus games Pimax 8K supports Oculus games, we will make an Oculus gaming video with M1. Stretch goal gifts and add-ons - Modules We are working with partners for the modules. The top priority is the hand tracking module and eye tracking module. We are working with several wireless partners as well. - Free content We plan to have one content for controllers, one content for hand motion, and another tbc. We have locked a great controller game and will disclose more info when we have the permission. - 10m cable The cable has passed the internal sample test. We are doing more tests and will disclose more info later. - Headstrap The team is refining the design of the headstrap for better ergonomics. - Face cushion, cooling fan, VR frame Not hard to produce at all, we have mockups ready. With limited resources, we are now focusing on the headset. We will update the progress when ready. Thanks for your passion and patience! While you are waiting for your packages, please join our discussion in the forum: forum.pimaxvr.com and the closed facebook group 8K VR CLUB. If you have any question, please let us know and we will give the answers in the next update. Best Regards, The Pimax Team
  16. Well, China violated the contract with Russia when they made the B-version. Can they sue for a violation of a violation ?
  17. Since there may or may not be issues related to bringing a modern russian fighter to DCS, i wonder if going the way trough a J-11B is the best option to get modern red air in game. Since bureaucracy is risk adversive by default they may have vetoed modern Russian aircraft in DCS. However, at the same time they may be more than willing to turn their back on something they can`t be held responsible for. Any takers for a J-11B ?
  18. Things are non the less moving forward. It will not be long before we can do our own tests.
  19. The DK2 was 75hz. Had no issues with it. What will matter is the in game frame rate.
  20. Look at the colours, blacklevels and resolution.
  21. Well, think about it. For newbies like me, the complexity of this sim is a huge hurdle to overcome. It is the largest detractor for new adaptors. Making the learning curve easier can only be a good thing. And no, I don't expect floppy discs or "press play on tape" :)
  22. They can offer it as a separate purchase as a collectible. The only ones that has to buy are the ones that are interested.
  23. Why doesn't Ed make a ring binder complete with F-18 stuff printed on the cover. In the days of yore i remember games coming in nicely illustrated boxes, filled with manuals and floppy discs. I miss the good old days ED !
  24. Tell me, is there any plan to offer a solid floor stand for the pro ? Is seems to short to stand on its own.
