  1. Raytheon says the AV8B can use AIM-9X. http://www.raytheon.com/capabilities/products/aim-9x/
  2. just to test it, i loaded up the f5 take off mission, accelerated to 160 kts, then aborted the takeoff and was able to stop before reaching the end of the runway, no chute. I just cut throttle and then stabbed the brakes repeatedly until it stopped. And I wasnt able to reach 160 till about halfway down the run way, so a normal landing would be no problem.
  3. did you try pumping the brakes? gotta drive it like a car with no ABS. Get as much stopping power as you can and if it starts to skid, let off and then reapply pressure right up to the skidding point.
  4. Well boys, the coin flip worked, kinda. Ended up getting the Mirage, A10C, and P51. Did I say $66? I meant $77. DAMN YOU ED AND SALES!!!!!!!
  5. I prefer flying. Anything. Honestly though I cant decide. I like the MiG21 because its hard to fly, I like the F5 because of its simplicity. I like the Ka-50 for its ground attack capability. My main negative points for each of the listed modules: P51D: I already have the TF-51, and it would basically be the same thing but now I can fight on the WW2 servers. Mirage: Its another delta wing aircraft, and has about the same ground attack capabilities as the F5 and MiG21. It does have BVR though. Huey: I dont know how much fun it will be to just fly around in a helicopter that cannot really bring much to the table combat wise. But I love the huey in general. A10C: Biggest drawback here is the complexity of systems, on top of having the A10A already. I don't enjoy the A10A all too much because of its lack of precision munitions, but to be honest, I don't know if I'll have the time to invest in learning the TGP, NAV, etc.
  6. Help make up my mind. Modules I have: Nevada FC3 MiG21 Ka-50 F5 Modules Interested in: P51D $18 Mirage $36 Huey $30 A10C $26 EDIT: Can go up to $66. Talked myself into it.
  7. Just wanted to say thanks for running a good server. Had a good time on their lately.
  8. I haven't read the manual in a while, but I think it recommends the technique I use as well.
  9. In my experience, you rotate at 250 to about 10-12 degrees AoA and hold it there, and allow the aircraft to lift it self off the tarmac. If you over rotate it, it puts too much pressure on the back tires and they will explode. I've used this technique successfully online and off, bombs, nuke, clean, etc. If the front tire is bursting I don't know what could be wrong.
  10. Must be a weird bug like the last issue where only certain people experienced it. Working for me on 2.0 and open beta, but I don't have release version installed. When you look at the plane in F2 view, are the dispensers visible on the plane?
  11. What version? I was messing around 2.0 last night online, flares and chaff worked for me. Was the system loaded on the plane? Was the Sprd drop cover open?
  12. Been quiet over here lately. Can we get a Fights On Part 2? I promise people wont bitch about HUD refresh rates....
  13. ive tried binding it to other mouse buttons, wont let me. I understand double clicking the mouse wheel, but id rather have it on one of the side mouse buttons.
  14. For dogfighting with guns, put the weapons switch on air, the top switch to guns, leave the other two alone (up). You'll know you have it right because you'll get the gyro effect on the piper. Setting for bombs is pretty simple too. IIRC, just put the weapons switch to ground, middle asp switch to B, top on launch. The piper should disappear in level flight when in bombing mode. I never touch the bottom switch or the dials. Slayed many AI with this configuration
  15. He must have missed his landmark on the touchdown. They have very specific points on the deck they aim to set it down on. There's a good video about a Marine Harrier that had a front gear that failed, and the deck crew set a stool down where he is supposed to set the front gear down at, and the pilot nailed the landing. Edit: found it.
  16. I'd say it lines up pretty nicely with this video. The pilot has very crisp, sharp control over the aircraft.
  17. Heres one with some low speed rolls/stalling. At 300km/h it rolls about 140/s. At full on stall it became extremely slow rolling, eventually becoming uncontrollable and doing some weird stuff. I'm not a aerodynamic engineer so excuse my inaccuracies in describing the behavior, but you can see for yourself. I wouldn't categorize it as being "too responsive", i didn't regain positive control until let it settle into a full nose dive and regain some speed. I hope you appreciate this Comrades, it cost me my life.
  18. I've ridden in many CH-53's, CH-46's, mostly in administrative movements, but sometimes roping out of them, jumping into the water, etc... The best ride I had was going from the USS Essex to the USS Juneau in the middle of the Pacific on a SH-60 Seahawk. The pilots decided to have a little fun I guess and did some maneuvers that caused the crew chief, who was not buckled to a seat, to flip on to the ceiling of the bird as we ascended and descended rapidly and repeatedly. As we went on the down slope of the roller coaster, he would flip on to his back on the ceiling until we started to climb and gravity returned him to the floor. It was literally one of funniest things I experienced in the military. I just figured they were having a good time on an otherwise boring flight. But man, having the doors open and out over the open sea, that was impressive without the acrobatics. As far as jets go, my only experience with them was seeing them conduct CAS. No A-10's unfortunately. I did witness a JDAM strike, however. I guess felt is a better word than witness, it rattled my chest pretty good. I also saw an F-18 scare the enemy out of cover by making a low pass and dropping flares over them. I guess we were too close for him to use weapons, I dont recall the reason that low pass was requested, but it worked. Saw F-22's flying over Kadena AB when I was out there as well. I think thats it. Edit: I also witnessed an F-18 crash at Miramar Air Station in early 2007. The pilot was doing touch and goes or something, but we saw him take off, and you could tell the engines went out, and then he punched out. Plane crashed in a field near where we were training with Stu Segal for a deployment. One of the guys in my unit was the first to get to the pilot, my buddy said he was ok, but really worried that he had killed someone.
  19. That is an outstanding deal. I'm hoping for a decent bundle on June 6th.
  20. Haha. That would be great. Although if you really did it, I would expect there to be condensation built up because of the warmer air being created by the computer heat.
  21. Lots of good info on here. Something important to remember that each individual CPU has its own performance capabilities and limitations, so like was said above, you really have to test it on your own. There is no copy and paste answers. This is a great thread. CPU tweaking is very intriguing to me.
  22. What is the best sale you've seen from ED? For me, it's been the F5/NTTR, and the fatherland sale where I picked up Mig21 and Ka-50 for a total of $45. Also throw your bets down for the inevitable June 6th WW2 bundle/sale!
  23. Point taken. I guess I was hoping for a similar package price to the F5/NTTR. I already have NTTR, just concerned about precedent being set for future map/mod bundles.
  24. Thanks for the embed tip. I've done some further testing due to some complaints on here, at different speeds etc, and I feel like the module more closely resembles real world performance. There's some really great documents on the 21 because of all the testing the US conducted on "borrowed" MiGs.
