  1. ED is a Russian company, it is only reasonable that they would be more "free" with their efforts in the Russian boards. They don't prevent you from viewing said boards... Sorry, I just have to disagree with you... You were told that they believed they could get certain aspects of DCS ready by the end of the year. You are also told many times that it was a best guess and not a promise. You have also been told many times that only after a module goes into pre-purchase can you start marking dates on a calendar. Bait and Switch is a specific legal term; there is no bait and switch here. Does it suck that DCS F-18C may be delayed even further than many of us anticipated - you bet! Did I have my hopes up for DCS 2.5 / F-18C / Carrier module this year - guilty as charged. Are some of those still possible, sure. We can be discouraged; we do have to keep things in perspective. We have yet to be given a date for any of the new releases. All ED representatives have always stated they were shooting for "by the end of the year." That never translated into "we got some awesome Christmas presents for you." Again, it sucks - it really does. It is NOT the end of the world. Patience will be your greatest asset in the coming weeks / months. Imagine if they released the DCS F-18C today and there was a major bug that appeared when switching between A/G and A/A radar... Just imagine how some in the community would be in an uproar. If ED needs more time, they need more time. The only argument, if you want to call it that, would be that it would be welcomed if Ed acknowledged delays earlier and more often and helped set expectations of an over-zealous community. (people would still bitch and complain about that, so that is probably why they don't do it) After this recent "spat" I can see ED damn-near closing the lid on development updates until right before releases. We've been down that road before and the lack of communication is beyond frustrating. I hope ED does not take that approach.
  2. Could be an older screenshot that is "new" to us. It could also be due to time of day the screenshot was taken.
  3. Most missions will be created with 1.5 (at the moment) with the Caucus map, as that is free with DCS World. Soon 1.5 and 2.0 will merge into 2.5. **Edit** That is official missions from developers. You can always find various missions for 2.0 that were user created.
  4. Yes, they will all be playable on their respective terrain. I imagine there will be some changes needed by the authors of missions/campaigns due to the new content in NTTR and Caucus being revamped. I would, personally, expect some short-term growing pains with content created prior to 2.5.
  5. Let me help you out some more.... Aerial weapons will help as you are not risking Aircraft to take out targets. Some people actual like to fly DCS as if it were real. Maybe you like to fly with unlimited ammo and invulnerability turned on - not fun imho... Get on a server or in a virtual squadron where munitions and aircraft are limited in numbers. You will see just how quickly your attitude will change when all of your aircraft have been shot down. Yes, aircraft are actually tasked with shooting down missiles. The idea is to shoot them down before they get close to their intended target. The "AAA" on-board a ship as you refer to it are not perfect and can be overwhelmed by target numbers. Just because YOU can't use your imagination doesn't mean you are right...
  6. Couple of possibilities.... A target encompassed by substantial SAMs that make it near impossible for a SEAD package to get close. Why not let some cruise missiles soften up the area first. Another point, with the F-14/F-18 on the horizon, they can be tasked with shooting down the missiles as part of fleet defense.
  7. Have you tried a repair install?
  8. The new cruise missiles are nice!
  9. Matt posts in threads from time to time; no reason to add everything in a newsletter.
  10. Hey Guys, just wanted to run an idea by you that could potentially add functionality to the ATC menu. So a lot of people are starting to use Voice programs to interact with the ATC menu. The idea is to have each menu item assigned a "call id." I envision call IDs could be 10 digit hexadecimal numbers that would be unique to each menu item. Further enhancements could be that regardless of what menu the user was in, the "call ID' would be executed. So for instance if a user called out "Hog 1 inbound for landing." The user's voice program can be more easily configured that when "inbound" is detected that it will send the "call id" of C319A2CE55 to DCS. DCS knows that that particular value is menu option "request landing." DCS can execute that command as it does today when someone is using the menu. This also means that people could utilize key-combinations more easily for certain menu options as well. Here's another example: Let's say the user was just in the wingman menu, they didn't exit out of it or go back to the main menu. They are now approaching a tanker and need to notify the tanker that they are coming for some gas. By using "call ids" it doesn't matter where the user was in a menu, heck the user doesn't even need to see a menu at this point in time. The user voices his/her intentions to the tanker, the "call id" is sent to DCS, DCS does its radio/freq check and processes the call. What I can, potentially, see happening is opening up more doors for users to have many more options without the need to code a specific menu and sub-option after sub-option. It would ultimately be similar to the way buttons are assigned and used in DCS / joysticks. In the case of joysticks, they send a value to DCS and based off of settings in the controller setup in DCS it executes a specific function within program parameters. Without knowing what is in store for the improved ATC, this may be a moot point.
  11. They do if your CDU is set to waypoint versus steerpoint. The same applies if you want to cycle MarkPoints.
  12. There's a rocker switch on the UFC and buttons assigned to the flight stick for that purpose.
  13. Here's a story that you might find interesting... F-14 Story
  14. You could be in a low resolution area of the map. Hit F-10 and figure out where you are and post the coordinates in this thread.
  15. Have you uninstalled the TrackIR software?
  16. I agree with your comments, though I would still like the module. The same could be said about all of the trainers as well - yet I enjoyed them all. Agreed, however, navigating tight corridors to strike a single target behind enemy lines and then get out without getting your tail roasted can be fun as well. If one were to talk about real-life mission profiles, 90% of the multiplayer servers would be empty. You know with all of the ROE, loitering for 4+ hours only to drop a single bomb - etc... If done right, it can be enjoyable. I understand why a lot of people would not want the module themselves, why short-change the community if there is enough interest from others? Imagine if you will, a module you were interested in, the DCS community picks 'x' reason why that module should not be done; thus plans are scrapped. Should you all of the sudden decide that you too do not want said module? Shorty story: If a developer wants to put their efforts into a module, let them. If the community wants a module you don't want, so be it. We will all benefit from every module released - even the WWII stuff...
  17. Close. The difference being that TFC / ED own all of the rights to the DCS / TBS IP. Also, we, the general public are not able to buy TBS AFAIK.
  18. NTTR is only around 26 Gb. These updates may push the size to around 32 Gb, but probably around 28. Can't see it going higher.
  19. Really? It wasn't that long when the WWII guys felt that they were being ignored. ED releases info as they see fit. QUIT LOOKING INTO SOMETHING THAT IS NOT THERE.
  20. Make sure your TGP is your SOI.
  21. The server admins will have to post the info for the SR IP.
  22. Instructions are provided for Simple Radio on the website. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=169387 With that said, what aircraft are you trying to use it with? If you have it installed, have you ran the Simple Radio Client Radio? I assume you have it installed correctly. What you need to do is setup simple radio for the key presses and input the server IP address of the simpleRadio server you are connecting to.
  23. Are you running in Admin mode? The reason I ask is if everything is working except guns and AGMs, you might need to run the application in admin mode - if you aren't already.
  24. It was a statement made by Wags. I cannot remember if it was in an old video or a post. You are more than welcome to search for it.
  25. Great update guys! I love hearing about these small, albeit important, details and steps. ED will have final say on all weapons. Since LNS is going to such lengths for an authentic experience, ED will most likely accept their work.
