  1. Lean forward. You had to lean forward to see the full HUD display. It is what it is, and I don't recall anyone in the Fleet whining about it. They'd be skewered and sent to fly COD's.
  2. Welcome to "Wing Wrestling". Heatblur modeled it perfectly...
  3. What airspeed are you using?
  4. Indeed. The Tomcat is above fighting weight with full fuel for starters. You guys crack me up, you really do. You've had the aircraft for two weeks and are complaining that you haven't figured out how to employ it. What a riot.
  5. You guys sure live in a different world. Joe Satrapa died last weekend. A little get together on his behalf at the Oceana O'Club in mid May.
  6. The aircraft didn't have civilian ILS capability. Different frequency spectrum. We did PAR's, and Navy controllers were the best in the world at it. Lost art today.
  7. The problem with throttles is the wide variety of controllers. It is a quandary. You need feedback for the burner detent, which was outboard for us. There are other very cool things in development that will help immersion. You guys were screaming for the module to release and fighting about the sidereal definition of winter, so...
  8. Wow. Things really changed after the Cold War! Makes sense.
  9. The flap/slat system was problematic in the aircraft. Over G's, rolling G's and rapid flap reversals would sometimes break a torque tube and result in an assymetery lock out. Run your PC procedure and go land.
  10. In the cockpit, the engines could be heard while taxiing. Once they were spun up for flight, the ECS airflow increased and dominated. So much so, that I wore earplugs under my helmet. Engine noise wasn't discernible. You could barely hear afterburner. Thank God, because the cockpit cooled beautifully once the rpm up in the flight range. You could hear a lead's engines when flying parade formation, and you could hear his engines on a flight lead sep takeoff. You could his his after burner better than your own. Missile launch for an AIM54 or AIM7 consisted of a thump and I don't recall hearing the rocket motor. I don't recall hearing either from the cockpit. An AIM9 off of the rail which went by the cockpit was a muted "whoosh" and nothing dramatic. The cockpit switches could be heard sitting in a dead aircraft before start, but after the ECS was up, forget it. DCS in general needs an audible click of some sort to offset the lack of tactile feedback of a physical switch. External sounds? Man, I couldn't care less.
  11. They are looking into it. The DME on the BDHI is very useful if you embrace it. It's what everyone learned to fly with and got their instrument ratings with in flight school, so it is quite useable. Learn to use it in the interim, because while in TID repeat in tactical situations, it's all you will have. You should turn off your tacan in combat though. ;)
  12. Yes, they all sound different from the actual tone depicted in Topgun, The Movie ™. :)
  13. Which exact tones are you referencing? Like them here. I'm finished digging through posts.
  14. It exacerbates the propensity to depart controlled flight.
  15. IF you play that backwards, it says "Paul is Dead, Paul is Dead..."
  16. No offense taken whatsoever. I can hear a difference in the F16 tone and the sim video (tinnitus version) tone. The Turkish F16 tone may wind up in the sim, but I really don't know. If it does, then we all need to shut up. The Turks are never wrong...
  17. I wonder how many here know where the "tilting at windmills" quip comes from. ;)
  18. Are you a type rated 737 pilot? Not just simulators? Then you trained on the 737 runaway trim. It's basic flying. A Lion Air Jumpseater in the same aircraft had to tell the flying crew how to stop it on the flight prior to the mishap. Competent pilots don't have an issue with such basic aspects. If an aircraft has an electrically actuated trim switch, then runaway trim is a possibility that needs to be addressed in training. The stab will overpower the elevators, it can happen in any flight regime and must be recognized and rectified, no matter what caused it. Different in the F14 by the way due to the stabilizer design.
  19. I am never for locking threads, unless for foul language or improper (graphic) images. There is too much nanny state intervention with the idea that argument and debate is somehow wrong. You end up with people who fold at the slightest obstacle, and seek to use moderation to bail them out of poor positions. Make your point and be able to back it up.
  20. It's only injected into the HUD video. You don't see a freaking rectangular mark when you pull the trigger on your windscreen either, do you dinkleberry? Hell, you don't see the mark at all! Good grief, this is like arguing with Rainman... :)
  21. I've mentioned numerous times that the difference we are experiencing may be a facet of our different ages and hearing abilities.
  22. The Lion Air mishaps is going to end up being pilot error, all things considered. The data isn't available on the Ethiopian yet, but the ridiculous rush to judgement and social media outrage has been appalling. There are two large trim wheels next to both pilot's legs on all 737's. They move any time that the trim is running, and indicate uncommanded or runaway trim for any reasons. Giant loud wheels moving without input? You have runaway trim. Either flip two switches by the copilot's knee, or grab either wheel and hold it. You can stop the freaking trim by simply grabbing the wheel. I'd fly in a MAX tomorrow with a competent crew.
  23. Thanks for posting. 2:19 is pretty close to what we have. It's higher than the stock DCS wav file. I am not sure where the tone is generated, but I'm sure many will find it "painful" and "horrifying" and probalby killed these Viper drivers a few minutes after the video ended. ;) I like the way the F16 weapons system shows the missile launch data while the RTGS/Predictor data is still present no matter what mode is selected. Surprised that there wasn't a launch during the Greek vs Turks engagement. ;)
  24. You don't have a clue on the 737 MAX MCAS system either. Maybe you should refrain from wasting everyone's time with baloney?
  25. That's the AIM9X. We're talking AIM9L/M.
