In 1987, U.S. Navy F-14s Engaged Phantom Iranian Planes
Bad Idea Hat replied to CheckGear's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Wouldn't be surprised if we hit one, and both sides just said "ehh, talking about this out loud would be really bad." Nothing against Iran or the Phantom, but that was a bit of a mismatch given the models involved and when it occurred. -

Agree and disagree I think they have a set out schedule of what they want. If you look at that and expect a "finish from announce date" being the same for each module, then they're going to disappoint. I think a lot of what they announced is "to do in the future." However, I also think that maybe this is having the good effect of pushing other devs forward (especially if Heatblur does "take" the A-6 from them). However, it does leave open the question of whether or not they support their finished modules. Looking at the Mirage, it's a great jet that's widely liked. It did take time to get there, but it's there. The Harrier will get there, and so on. They really do need to bring on a couple more coders, though.

If Heatblur is taking the A-6, I wouldn't be surprised if they released along a similar time frame honestly.

Doesn't matter, feels good to give it a kick.

I'm hoping that the easter egg for the BN is that you can whack the computer if it's acting up.

Razbam is a good dev, and they already have an A-7E for FSX. I don't think getting their A-7 done will be as large of a process for them as it would be for anyone else.

Going to slightly hijack this to ask 1) Is there a template for the Kuznetsov textures? 2) If not, where are the base textures for the Kuznetsov located in the game files?

Su-33 explodes while taxing on the Stennis

I had the same problem, rear elevator. Wings were folded, all lights off, both engines running. -
Okay, now this makes sense. However, now I want VIP AI RIO, because I want the fun of the guy in the back sliding up in his harness, grabbing the nearest thing to stop himself, and ejecting from the aircraft.

will we ever see a flyable B-52
Bad Idea Hat replied to Winglesschip209's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Your long answer must have ECM equipment on it, because it jammed up my browser. -
Yeah, the person who needs to be mute most of the time is the pilot. RIO is the voice, pilot's the spear thrower.

10 reason to buy this module please :)
Bad Idea Hat replied to Bigskill's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
The Tornado can do more, but it's also needs to do more. The British were going to be major combatants in a WW3 scenario, and the Tornado needed to perform more varied and complex missions than the Viggen. The Viggen's missions all seem to be geared towards preventing and halting an invasion of Sweden. The missions were much more simplified, and for good reason; focus on doing one thing at a time, and you can do that one thing extremely well. edit - For the feel of it though, the Tornado was a slightly more modern jet, with more complex avionics. The Viggen can scoot with the Tornado at low altitudes, but you're going to be doing a lot more work due to the simpler avionics. It's a ton of fun because of that. -
Just to think, they had an entire team work on that single piece.

Like someone said above, best rule of thumb is to switch it on as you move onto the runway for takeoff. The chances of you aborting at that point are less than 1% in the game.

Looking at locations and timelines; First off, Microprose was based in California, so I can see why it would be questionable... ...until you find out that BRAC, in 1993, recommended that NAS Miramar be transitioned to the Marines, and all F-14 ops moved to Oceana. Best guess is that, given that their nearest base was closing, it would be better off going to Oceana to do their research. Also, I think that the version they modeled for the game was the F-14B, which was only at Oceana. That could be the real reason for going east, or it could have been a side effect.

Yeah, hell, I'm still P3D-Happy with the placeholder graphics.
-
I find it funny that the placeholder graphics are roughly the same quality, or maybe a little better than the Aerosoft F-14.
-
Wait, what. edit - My mom said I could be anything, so I decided to become a...Viggen?

It's moments like these where I wish everyone could just get along, so we could get the sounds from the Persian Cats. Other reasons as well.

Think about what it would take to get a car running that you've left in your garage (charitably) since September 2006. Now multiply the cost and difficulty many times. Even given best-case scenarios, nobody but the US military is going to bring back a Tomcat. If the US military did try, Dick Cheney would rise from wherever the hell he is and just quash it again.

Tonopah on NTTR, the very first time. I have to echo the sentiment that I don't want anything to do with a trap until I can prove to myself that I can consistently bring it in, centerline and on slope at Tonopah Test Range. Top Gun had the better airplane, and everyone loves The Danger Zone, but I'm of the opinion that Iron Eagle had the better soundtrack.

Honestly, the two bad things I could see it being used for are; 1) Calling SovietWomble a specific name I won't mention here (sorry, dumb reference), or 2) Promoting a server in a different server. Trolling and/or guerilla server promotion. I'd be okay without it.

I feel like the Viggen is now the only jet where the George of the Jungle theme song is extremely appropriate. I'm in your same boat. I would love to own the F/A-18, but I feel like it would end up being a waste of money, given that I'm probably going to be in the F-14 nonstop once it releases.

An MP mission designer could limit some/all of those by limiting weapons on their mission. Yeah, avionics would be out of place a bit, but I don't think anyone's going to complain a ton about that. If we really want to be more realistic, the American side gets crappy AWACS, and the North gets a great EWR/GCI system.
