The Royal Navy Grumman Tomcat 766, 890, and 893 NAS, 1978-2006 FR.1 (Yeovilton, 1979) FR.2 (Falklands, 1982) FGR.3 (Kuwait, 1991) FRS.4 (Iraq, 2003) Please don't mock me. These all took about an hour of work total to do, and really need a lot of touching up (better squadron logos, incorrect numbers, the roundels on at least one are too small, etc). My fixes are probably going to be applied to the DCS Tomcat, when the paintkit comes out.

Obviously you've never flown with me, the guy who once spent an online mission with a Viggen armed only with a jamming pod, a countermeasures pod, and two Rb-74s, making runs alongside friendly jets to jam enemy radars. I get off on stuff like that, because I'm weird. There's probably not enough of us to necessitate a module, but there are more of us than you'd expect.

Is this in the same region as "eccentric vs crazy"? Eccentric if you're good enough to be, crazy if you're not.

POLL: Air to Ground or Air to Air? Whats your thing?
Bad Idea Hat replied to Rhinozherous's topic in DCS 2.9
Both, but I like to keep the roles separate (i.e. even if the airframe does both roles, only do one per sortie). -
Are your numbers 38 new build F-14Bs and 48 F-14Bs converted from As? edit - Nevermind, wikipedia confirmed it. I was suddenly thinking that my belief that modelling a D version would be a waste due to low numbers was wrong on my part. Still, Bs came in much lower numbers than As.

I was told that the company who holds the patents on force feedback technology is...uh...stingy on licensing. That's why we don't see as many force feedback controllers these days, and probably why nobody makes anything with an eye towards that right now (only throwing in support later on). It's going to be a while before we see this be big again. It's also reason number 5,791,664 why we need to revamp the patent process.

NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod
Bad Idea Hat replied to Merker's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Labeling the cockpit photo texture "Lookatthisphotograph" may have been a slight miscalculation for the sarcastic among us. However, my photograph is now going to be the Philadelphia Flyers' mascot Gritty. -
This may be known by many of you, but for those who don't, the Skyhawk has select-a-flap. If you've flown one of the McDonnell-Douglas civilian airliners, you've heard of this. By using the "down/up else stop" option for flaps, you can set your flaps to whatever angle you like. This isn't as helpful for quick up and down in a quick, heads-up situation, but it gives you the option of whatever degree flaps you want.

You know, something I never considered, but what's naval and has a two person crew, and could use a good carrier model? Blackburn Buccaneer.

How many squadrons flew the -D? I thought it was only a handful with the Pacific Fleet. The D was a great jet, but it wasn't as widely used as the A or B, and was a fair bit more complicated from a technological standpoint (read; re-coding a good chunk of the Tomcat avionics for DCS).

As hard or as easy as you make it. Toss it around like a Hornet, and you're going to have a bad time. Let its speed do the work, let the radar pick targets up at range and lob missiles at them when they get into a high PK range, basically let the jet do what it does well, and it'll be the nicest jet in the game. I mean, the same can be said about everything, but my experience in FSX/P3D with that Tomcat is that you kind of have to paint yourself into a corner. Just learn where the corners are, and you'll be okay.

Here's the thing, I have the VRS Superbug and Aerosoft Tomcat for FSX, and I absolutely love flying in the carrier pattern with the Tomcat. It makes me work harder, sure, but it's a very fun aircraft to fly. The Superbug feels so sterile. The Tomcat requires you to stay ahead of the jet mentally, but it doesn't feel stupidly difficult to handle.

What do you do first when the tomcat is available?
Bad Idea Hat replied to Mking's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Bounce it off the runway somewhere a bunch of times. -
Well, yeah, because we'll have to try to stop Pearl Harbor from taking place...

Will server hosts be able to "ban" JESTER in MP?
Bad Idea Hat replied to QuiGon's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I understand where you're coming from, but I'm going to be worried that there's going to be a lot of server admins who ban the Tomcat out of hand. Well, kind of worried, because the ones who don't (and PvE) will get the Tomcat aviators. -

Really, I'm going to go home tonight and make "Effing Jester!!(?)!" memes. I don't play PvP anymore specifically because I got tired of hearing/seeing the stupid BS from actual humans when things didn't go their way. At least with PvE you know that it's the AI, and the only thing you can do is laugh. -

See, now you're going to lay in bed thinking about the amazing strategizing that could go down if SATAL gets "creative" with their rules next year. -

Bad Idea Hat replied to QuiGon's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
"Effing Jester!" is going to turn into a dumb, dumb meme once the jet is released. I do, however, want to see SATAL allow the Tomcat, but change their rules from six aircraft per team, to six people per team. That was a Tomcat eats up two people from the roster, and kind of gives an interesting "how many pilots is a Tomcat worth" approach towards SATAL. -
Having started out learned how to fly ADF and VOR in Flight Simulator 5.1, everything else is an improvement. If anyone is freaked out about this, go fly ADF in FSX/P3D/XP11.

Jesus I just started sweating for no reason. But you're fairly correct, and I even love ArmA.
-
I've been flying the Aerosoft Tomcat in FSX because that's where my Tacpack license is. So yeah...yeah...

TIL I fly the F-15 like I should be flying the F-14A I don't think I'm ever out of full AB when I'm ACM in that jet.
