I don't think anyone expects a free theater. However, I would fight many people and/or bears if someone made a Viggen/Su-17/Sweden-Baltic theater bundle.

I think that the best a jet jock can do is fly the F-86/MiG-15. Do you want to have total control of your jet? There you go. Want to go 500 knots, 1000 closing on your target? Go for it. Oh yeah, you've got the same guns used in WW2, no search radar, and no fly by wire. Have fun. The F-14 has always been my jet, since I was a kid. A close second is the A-6 Intruder, which I only fly in DCS when I get into an Su-25T and squint a lot. The next few months are going to be hard on me, because I don't want to be okay at two jets, but good at one jet. As much as I want the Hornet because it looks so well done...I'm holding out for the Tomcat. In the meantime, I get to pretend that the Su-33 is a nerfed Tomcat.

No no, the Viggen’s doing the cratering -

Can’t rule the skies if your runway is cratered. -
I partially disagree about ditching countermeasures. Now, your best bet against SAMs is going to be staying low and going fast. However, if you're only doing one pass with 2 Rb75's, then you should have the two inner wing pods open. I usually carry them anyways, for at least pinpointing other SAM sites on the way in (in record mode), and gives me a bit of piece of mind for the run from the IP to the target. Even if the jammer only gives you an extra 10-20% of safety, that's still 10-20% you can use.

You're going to be in great demand as a RIO when the Tomcat launches, you know that right?

Big delay when switching to AJS aircraft

I'm suddenly able to use the Viggen in 2.2 MP again -
And the backfire was only a means for delivery, the missiles they carried were supposed to do most of the heavy lifting. Russia seemingly wanted their warfare automated, whether it was electronically automated, or doctrinal automation.

I love using the Viggen for anti-runway work in Dynamic Caucasus/Blue Flag. If Heatblur made the Tornado, the Viggen would be waaay obsolete in that role, and it even does that role very well.
-
I suspect that they took all the info, and averaged it out to find what the probably common options were. I also suspect some of the more oddball options, like three Rb04 missiles, were discarded in the name of not going overboard.

I always think of this The Far Side cartoon when it comes to cold cat shots

** F-14 Road to Release + Christmas Update!! **

Hell, I'd love to be able to mod the Jester voice so that it's my 6 year-old daughter yelling at me when I screw up. -
I feel like this would be where A2A comes in, as they already have so much done on their B-17. They'd probably need to re-code everything due to differences in sims, but they've already done so much of the legwork on the airplane.
-
Looks like the correct answer is "more Viggen."

I'd guess it's for the detailed systems modeling that they require the license. I know that, for FSX, Project Open Sky didn't need a license for their Boeings because they only did the external model, but PMDG needed a license because they modeled the systems and internals in detail. There's conjecture that that's a lie by PMDG, but that's the way it was presented to that community.
-
I was wondering because we eventually figured out they weren't worth having. Removing them and their mechanical components means one less complex thing to have break on the jet.

That is some next level "gotta protect these jets" stuff. It makes sense. Have you guys taken the glove vanes out of the wings on your cats?

Forrestal Development Update: Deck Crew WiP!
Bad Idea Hat replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Okay, so I'm not wrong to think that the AS Tomcat feels like it's on rails when I fly it. It's 100% predictable at every weight, stores config, etc. I worry I get too complacent flying the jet, and the only thing I had happen to me that really kicked my butt was a compressor stall around angels 26 in the left engine when I accidentally throttled down too much and stopped paying attention to the sim. Really, the only thing I'm not comfortable with in the AS Tomcat is the auto-throttle, which I can only seem to get to work correctly if I don't make any movements over what feels like a degree per second. -
So, you can't control it? Would you say that it is literally unplayable?

Anybody else looking forward to being a RIO?

Spend a couple dollars and get Fleet Defender on Steam. It's not going to give you 100% of the experience of flying the Tomcat in DCS, but it does a decent enough job of giving you an idea of what you're going to have to do with the radar.
