  1. Hey guys, just wondering (if any) of you guys are flying BS, A-10C/LOMAC/ROF whatever on the I7 IMAC's. I'm waiting for the next IMAC update (due any month now) and wanted to know how these comps fly the sims. I'm on a macbook pro now and they run nicely, but there are compromises obviously (3 years old now). Thanks in advance! (And the mac is a work/professional preference...I'm not a PC hater or mac fanboy...I roll with the tools I have) :):joystick:
  2. I was thinking more EA, but that's more publisher I guess.
  3. Agreed. Although no thanks to the editing (although hip and hollywood) the lighting and environments are what have sparked my interest. <--- and i've lost complete interest in FPS as of late. Bumfire: Especially if it's an American developer you an be sure the US military will be involved. Americans aim for the American audience first, global audience second. I'm sure other factions will be available upon release (MP purposes) seeing as the war in the middle east is being faught pretty heavily by both Americans and the British (plus other countries) i'd be surprised if it was an American only faction. (unless you read someplace that it is).
  4. Not that it matters much because it's not my call, but I'm more interested in the DCS series than spending time and resources blending the simplified LOMAC series with the more complex DCS series. Especially with the A-10C. There is a HUGE gap between putting weapons on targets for the C than anything else in LOMAC, including the Toad (favourite lomac aircraft). It's going to be a trick getting BLACK SHARK up to speed with A-10C so in terms of compatibility and progress towards the next module I'd rather keep it DCS. Again not my call and if they do release a FC3 i'll be all over it. It's just not a preference of mine in any regard.
  5. Arrived home from being away from home on business for 3 months. Went from flying a-10C beta 1 with a keyboard on my laptop to the full version with hotas and tracker IR. With three weeks off...I'm going to have LOADS of flight time! Thanks ED and congrats on the accomplishment. Now if only I can get through to the downloads to start was is probably going to be a VERY long download. Not surprising, but anybody else having that problem? Proceed to downloads page doesn't load? Seems to hang.
  6. Not sure when you first played it, but it's made LEAPS and BOUNDS from when I first put the disk in my drive. I don' t have a high end system so I keep the details down so I can keep really high FPS and I LOVE how it feels. Especially for a WWI sim, I'm not sure how things look at 35,000 feet, but the engine is pretty sweet for the WWI confines that's for sure.
  7. Nice positive message there, I agree. I've been away from my computer simming PC for 3 months now, no Black Shark, no FC2, no A-10C (i've still only got BETA 1)...VERy much looking forward to getting back in the saddle. This long distance relationship i've been having the past 3 months has probably had an effect on my appreciation for the series no doubt. MAMA! I'm COMING HOME! *pushes wife and dog out of the way* B-lines for computer room and hotas....."how I've missed you my sweet". lol sorry lame, really looking forward to heading back home (miss the wife and dog more than the game obviously..................)
  8. Steel Beasts seem to have similar types of explosions..."low key" .. I think DCS explosions look much better no doubt. I only compare because SB is over $100 US and is a similar "combat training tool" to the DCS series. To me as long as they have some physical characteristics (damage model) of a real explosion I'm happy. Priorities are obviously different, but I'm usually seeing the explosions from a standoff range and the flame indicating kill is satisfaction enough. I'm not opposed to improvement, but I hardly think they suck. PEW PEW!!!
  9. That would be cool, although i can imagine it would delay the release because you'll have to put a bunch more work into it. No doubt it's possible...it really sucks not having any close RL friends who are into this as much as me. I've tried...to no avail :(
  10. Wish I had more time, this looks cool but barely have enough time to fly ... let alone try out my hand at armor operations.
  11. Alliance was good, Tie Fighter though had a great story, dynamic music (would change as the action happened) a LOAD of fighters to fly and for the bad guys to boot ;). Anyway sorry thread off topic there. Yay fixed wing module whatever we're talking about :)
  12. Tie Fighter was WAY better IMHO...;) :pilotfly: hands down ;)
  13. Impressive indeed! Dont' know how I missed that...oh yes I do, there are SO many mods for ARMA 2 lol. Thanks for sharing!
  14. :megalol:
  15. this made me laugh when I read it this morning. words of advice; These whiny rants may work on your parents at home, but empty threats and childish whining simply because you don't get exactly as YOU want will never get you anywhere (but the laughing stock) in life. Write that down if you must. I personally can't really see beyond the A-10C right now...beta 6 go!
  16. So you have a separate throttle? Or is the throttle the throttle on the stick? If you're talking about throttle control on the stick, then yes DCS A-10C is PLAYABLE with that joystick setup, but it will limit you severely on "realistic" settings. I have an X52 and there are some functions i'd love to have on my HOTAS I just don't have the buttons for. In the past I've never let my hardware stop me from buying a sim, I either turn down the detail level and res to get playable frame rates, or figure out an alternative to having 50 thousand button combo's at my finger tips. In all honestly you could totally play the sim with that stick, just appreciate a few things may be a bit tougher control. Who knows, you may like the sim so much it will entice you to upgrade at some point (X52 is a cost effective alternative to the TM Warthog) and gives you built in rudder control. All the best in your decision making process ArcticAge.
  17. Joystick is only RECOMMENDED ;)
  18. I'm actually surprised we got a tidbit of information in that article on the next module, fixed wing, american...that narrows down the list definitely. :D
  19. A little update I read over on the A2A forums from one of the project manager himself. "yeah yeah, we know. Mea culpa. While the previous new date was a rather serious change in the whole idea we had on Jet Thunder (adding the Pucara to make it a two sided ground attack release) this time it is just a delay. The curse of software development, any building work and cleaning up your hard disk. You plan to get it done on schedule but it just does not happen. We simply did not manage to get the files done in time and the crew that works on it is really getting worn down. Weeks of 100 hours are more or less standard. For a small part this is due to 'feature-creep'. As we are closing down it is hard to avoid adding small things that seem very important. All things that need to be inserted, tested, documented etc. For a bigger part it is due to underestimating the work, also something that seems linked to any development. You plan for it but in the end it always bites you in the backside.Blame me, I am the project manager and do not blame the developers. So what happens now? We'll it is clear that Jet Thunder is a major project for us. Although we intend to update the project aggressively based on customer feedback I will not push the developers to release something that they do not like. Initially it is a download release (as all sims these days) so we do not have dates with shops and printers. We only got to deal with you, the customer. But we are not giving a new date but we will keep on showing process. No matter what we are talking weeks not months. What was done today? Check out this ejection seat. Tomorrow it will be unwrapped and textured. But it does show that we are not rushing this product in this vital moment, right?"
  20. Oh yeah you can't put all those on hold...wife trumps GF and kids trump everything! Yeah in all other areas Crysis IMHO actually did some re-inventing when it came to FPS. COD or MOH are just cruising off "strong gameplay" but really aren't moving the genre forward at all. Halo...same game since 2000 whenever it came out. Probably the reason I've lost all interest in arcade FPS, nothing has come out in awhile to really that is worthy of my extremely limited game time (wife, job...no kids yet). All the best man, be sure to hit this thread back with comments, I'm curious to know your thoughts.
  21. Don't forget the A-10C project efficiency was hindered by the FC BS compatibility patch, but I see your point. I agree with Grimes though, the A-10C really has no place in a world with the A-10A (simply modeling difference). 50 steps to fire a mav for C, 2 steps for A. The helicopter REALLY ads to FC2 because well...helicopters and fast movers have NEVER been in the same online combat arena before...ever *with human pilots*. For all we know, ED could have a portion of it's team working on the next military contract (and airframe). Keeping things moving forward business wise while another project is coming to an end. Don't forget it's not just an airframe we're getting, we're getting improvements in all areas as well. I LOVE FC2 and BS in FC2, the options for airframes is incredible and really makes for an amazing online experience (when everyone is contributing generally). I just don't see the point (gameplay experience and developer time) bothering to mix simplified airframes with complex ones. DCS will get there, we just need to give it a bit more growing time and until then, FC2 + Black Shark and hopefully soon after release DCS-A-10C + Black Shark and after that...A-10C + Black Shark + F16/Mig 29/F18/SU-27 :joystick:
  22. :megalol: we all know too well how "fast" time fly's when you're playing on the computer no doubt. 3 hours never went by so fast. I can tell I've been playing too long when I generally get irritable. Irritability ensues...time to turn it OFF! Go outside, play in the snow........(by play in the snow I really mean get the eff away from the computer) and maaaaaybe come back a little later ;). It is nice to have options to suit your mood though. You feel like getting dirty, ARMA, you feel like putting mav's on armour; DCS A-10C you feel like getting up close and personal in a gunzo dogfight; Cliffs of Dover. Rather than battling each other for supremacy there is definitely room for all great sims under one roof, holding hands and singing "heal the world" and all that noise ;).
  23. This is one FPS you'll want to get for the PC as well. The Cry Engine (as far as I can tell) REALLY shines on PC. The tech behind the games looks cool, I just can't get into this alien, super human/bio suit thing. I am curious to know how the actual gameplay will be, apparently a HUGE chunk of Manhattan is modelled and I'd be curious to know how much freedom in the city you'd have. On a personal note, I really can't stand the direction game trailers have gone. The fast over produced edit does absolutely nothing for me. My mind already knows when a cut is going to happen, i feel like i'm directing an orchestra. Run/jump/shoot/explosion, run jump shoot explosion...line to slow things down for a second....explosion run/jump shoot/explosion. TITLE under the title some cool synch from game voiced by Clist actor. Atomic978 you're going to have a BUSY end of March my friend! Two games to go between?? I could think of a worst case scenario ;) Plan some time off work/school/gf...and GO!
  24. I'd rather wait a bit longer for DCS fighter than to fly around with simplified fighter opfor that's for sure (especially in a complex A-10C). FC2 right now is great with Black Shark, you have loads of strike fighters/fighters and even a helo...it's hard to ask for a better flight sim platform than that. Just think in 5 years hopefully we'll have the same thing (less fighters) but in a true sim DCS world...THAT is bad ass.
  25. I don't really care much about the publisher, but first person shooters have stopped being innovative about 5 years ago. Everything since has been "flash and trash". No offense to the author of course, I can't explain what it is, but FPS just don't do it for me anymore. This is what impotence must feel like ;). It's there in my face, but it's just not doing anything for me...i can't explain it.
