Nobody can really say at this point. If I were to pick a number I would assume $19-$29 dollars but that is only a best guesstimate based on previous pricing tactics. It could just as easily go for higher or lower.

http://riseofflight.com/Blogs/default.aspx New update, I have rise of flight sitting on a shelf...no time for it, but it just keeps GROWING and GROWING and GROWING. New English Channel map planned, a nice little forecast within the link.

Take On Helicopter - New game by Bohemia Interactive

DCS HIND........I know it's been said a million times already, but the thought of it makes my mouth water. Looking forward to some vid's showcasing the detail/fm/weapons of BI's HIND. -
Hope is lost clearly :(. Fsx died for me when the studio was axed (indication work was ot being done on fax 2012). The only memorable Fsx content now (and since 2 days after launch) is third party developers, without them the sim would be long gone by now.:pilotfly: I hadn't any expectations for MS Flight, not that I am turning my nose up to it per say I'm just not interested in a simplified civil flight sim. Not worth my download or install time, I already have too many sims (yes I said too many hehe) that I can't find time to play. If it's not going to break any ground, not interested. Even at the "free" price point. Much rather play dcs :joystick: Perhaps it will help launch the flight sim back into the mainstream?! Perhaps not.

What do you think about P-51D and Flying Legends?

Perhaps you missed the outcry that accompanied the news it was a US fighter jet? :joystick: -

You have to consider there may be a contractual thing with the air force that prohibits the release of the modern day fighter module to be within x days of the finished military version. Im' going on a limb here, there's a reason ED is quiet about the release of the fighter module, it must might be a contractual thing, who knows. The 51 module and FC3 are most likely free to proceed however ED sees fit...I mean that's the only way I can really put some "logic" behind it. (Not that I'm trying to put logic behind it)...maybe it's just a different way to consider it. So instead of no products being released (potential contractual obligations with USAF) the community gets an upgraded FC3 (very popular) and a 51 module (because TFC has one on hand and should simplify development/modeling etc). I really don't have a clue ... but consider there are bigger things going on behind the scenes that's keeping some of the "critical" information on the DL for now. :pilotfly: -
The whistle....goosebumps. Love the music as well, inspirational. Both soundtracks are pretty cool (i haven't installed BS2 yet, still waiting to be double clicked) :) I have to say REALLY looking forward to flying the 51.

I agree, although I wouldn't rely on the feature film department (unless you are talking feature documentary). The film genre is on a similar path as the video game industry (flash and trash). So a quality aviation film will be hard to come by. (most likely won't make much money because of niche subject matter). It's not by any means perfect, but this series aired a few years ago in Canada: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcofXehQmy0 Jetstream, 10 part mini series (documentary) highlighting the final stage of fighter school. It's a great series (IMHO) (although the country it speaks of is Canada and may not be big enough for some of the Euro's or US residents). Florida has more fighter plans within it's border than we do in our whole country ;). As far as the trailer goes, well done mate. I've been editing tv series for 10 years and I got started shooting and editing my own stuff early on as well. Although my 1997 version of Adobe Premiere couldn't handle the visual effects, I had to rely on really nice pictures/solid cuts to make it really stand out...but those are the basics. Pacing is everything, editing is like playing the drums and story story story. Even in a trailer, tell the best story you can. Obviously practice makes perfect...but so do "notes". People will comment and offer suggestions and I suggest trying to build in some of those suggestions. Every pro deals with "notes" on many levels. Studio notes, network notes, executive notes. They are annoying, but ultimately helpful to the process. :smartass:

Think of the FLYING LEGENDS aspect of the series as the name suggests. A sort of a tribute (whereby the player gets to fly what could possibly be the greatest modeling/simulated P51 virtual plane every made) of some of the airframes that made an impact historically (the pony is not everybody's favorite, but getting an airframe everybody loves unanimously is impossible). It is a popular plane and bam, TFC has one in their collection so..... There is no big question either, it's been stated multiple times that the P51 project won't delay the modern fighter. If you want to apply logic to that statement than you could argue there are WAY more people looking for the next modern fighter than a P51 in this community...so commercially it doesn't make sense...but resources are obviously there so BAM, we're getting a P51 as well :pilotfly:. I don't think Flying Legends is attempting to be the next WWII simulator, but a project where we get the opportunity to fly some cool historical planes (outside of timeframe and world surrounding) and guess what, we get to fight each other in them. (Unlike FSX). Anyway no disrespect intended...I'm not trying to convince you to love the idea, that's clearly within your own right. Just maybe look at it a bit differently? -
I'd like to know if you had anything better than to spew your garbage on these forums? Have you nothing better to do sir? Your opinion is valid of course, but the manner in which you choose to express such opinion is rude, condescending and overly entitled. :badmood: @ mikoyan Those vid's gave me chills.

One las thing regarding where people got parallel development from; Roadmap post made a few months ago...note number 5: In the coming months we plan to release several new projects. While we wish to have open communications with our customers and let them know of our planned projects, please understand that plans often change due to unforeseen circumstances. The below list is a road map of our intentions and not a promise of things to come. As each product nears completion and feature lists are finalized, more details will be provided. 1- Combined Arms. This $19.99 add-on will allow A-10C, Black Shark 2, and Flaming Cliffs 3 owner to act as ground force commanders as the mission is running. Users can direct ground units, set fire missions for artillery/multiple rocket launchers, and take the role of a Joint Terminal Air Controller (JTAC). As the JTAC, players will have night vision goggles, IR pointer, laser designator, and Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR). Several other new items are still being considered. Combined Arms will work in both single player and multiplayer missions. 2- Flaming Cliffs 3. This will be a paid-for update to the Flaming Cliffs series and brings it to the same world, mission editor, AI, units, etc. as A-10C and Black Shark 2. We plan to include several upgrades to the aircraft, a resource management system, and several other new features. This will also make Flaming Cliffs online compatible with A-10C and Black Shark 2. Pricing will depend on what new features are included. 3- Nevada map. This will be a $19.99 add-on that will be compatible with A-10C, Black Shark 2, and FC3. Users that purchased the A-10C beta will get this map for free. 4- The first "DCS Flying Legends" aircraft will be released in the first half of 2012. 5- The next US fixed wing jet DCS aircraft is being worked on in parallel. :smartass:

You don't have the facts and neither do I, that was my point there good times fun man. You're reputation proceeds you and no worries, no offense taken, thanks for the consideration.:pilotfly:

+1 for reading and understanding the entire announcement. They aren't claiming the first born to all dcs customers as some would have you believe. It's a compatible seperate initiative to the modern airframes. The company has a few warbirds laying around and decided to transpose them onto the desktop so all of us can enjoy them (if we so choose). Emotional reactions the likes of some with a clear misunderstanding of the message is how a child acts when he doesn't get what he wants. He doesn't understand it, he just reacts. The only excuse I have for those people is of English isn't their first language... "in parallel" can be easily missed.
-
The customers wants a jet, they're getting one. They also want a fc3 they're getting that as well, ground commander ,more patches and yes now a warbird. Flying legends is a side project, just because it was announced first doesn't mean it's coming out first. And I still think a Cessna is a poor comparison a 109 would have been more more accurate. No disrespect...this thread is as nerdy as it gets (pedantic arguments based on little facts). I'm guilty of it as well for contributing. I just don't think anyone can predict what happens next with other timelines because this was announced.

It's a simple battle between those who have their own personal ideals of what they want the DCS series to be about. WWII just doesn't seem to fit with many, which is strange to me. The choices of airframes have never been a popularity contest or a real world war scenario. THey have been contracts, Black Shark military contract 1, A10C military contract 2. Flying legends seems to be a personal initiative by the fighter collection who I guess feel they can develop this "side project" without a big military contract...more power to them. To me it's a sign of good times at the company and as a result a more prosperous product for us. Resources at any company are never really focused on one aspect. You think Apple or Microsoft or Google focuses all their resources on one project? ... they DO NOT. ED most likely have a roadmap, we are not privy to their grand scheme but that's not really within our right...no matter how the internet makes us feel or enpowers us to think we know better than anybody else. The debate will continue to go in circles, we're on lap 49 now I think. I render my full support to ED and their initiative.
-
Off a cliff? So dramatic? You're outlook is highly negative for something that really shouldn't make or break your day in such a profound way. Perhaps you feel you're being treated unfairly? Try to enjoy the simple things mate...if not, then please allow those who do enjoy the simple things to enjoy them.
-
As stated by wags it's a parallel initiative that will have no impact on the dcs jet module. You're completly mo's understanding and knee jerk reacting to your own confused gobbolygoop. A Cessna and an armed p51 are a very poor comparison my friend.
-
They've said themselves the development is of the legends series isn't affecting the work on the jet module. They most likely have a bunch of engineers with different qualifications working on the turbo prop vs a supersonic jet fighter with radar etc anyway. I just hope they announce the fighter soon so the complete misunderstanding can stop filling the forum with rhetorical nonsense (not directed at you). How many times do we need to hear people with no qualifications say what is the right and wrong direction the series goes etc.
-
 all the info to counter most of this argument is in the announcement. It's funny how you as with such certainty what Ed should and shouldn't do without knowing 0.0000001% of any info to make such a claim.
-
The 51 has 6 50 cal's...that's not found in XPLANE. It will be a combat sim no matter how you try to pretend otherwise. If you can't see the potential in it that's fine, but give it more credit than writing it off as a commercial move (XPLANE)
-
Even fantasy scenarios. Like 5 p51's vs two mig 29's or anything that a sandbox sim that Ed are giving is can dictate. This isn't real life it's better, we won't die if we crash, the physical stress of g's can't discomfort us. We play with the tools were given. Have you seen what a child does with an appliance box? Use your....imagination or get re familiar with it. Damn as ive grown up over the years my sim time is highly limited and I enjoy every second I get to "fly". Helicopters, fixed wing, prop and soon to be supersonic jet...all under one roof. Awesome!
-
I'm an aviation fan, historical has significance to me...the only sim I need on my comp these days is dcs so for the sheer love of flying combat aircraft I'm all over this. The modern setting has no significance to me, the airframe is bad ass. I've said it before and I stand by it, I'll purchase all dcs modules simply because they are IMHO the best combat experience out there. I understand it's not for everybody , but some of the opposed opinions seem to lack an understanding of what flying legends is all about and how it's being developed. I really cannot see an ounce of negativity in this announcement as any new developments in the genre are positive. Especially because it's not taking away from the main focus.
-
Very happy about this. And for those begging for the modern jet, don't forget it's being developed a long side. It's a sign the boys and girls (???) at ED are opening up and prospering. Love the 51 and all the warbirds for that matter. Personal opinions respected I do find it interesting how picky some combat sim guys can be. Me? Rotor, jet, prop ground air? If its got teeth, I'm on it.

Yeah i thought it could have been U Austin. Either way the south and hockey don't seem to get along well. But that's fine as everybody is into football :D I can respect that. I learned something new about Alamians :book: On topic: I would pay $500 for a "perfect combat flight sim", it would be put through my personal ringer of consideration, I would basically study it online (forums, YouTube vids) for a full year before I made a commitment.

You're a Texan, what do you guys care about hockey ;). Fooooootballllllll/baseball = the world
