I should have used quotations as "cartoony" wasn't my interpretation of the graphics. I forget who (too lazy go see who I was responding to in that post) but I'v decided a long time ago never to debate graphic in sims with people. Too many different expectations and perceptions. I think the graphics are perfect for a civil sim with that much terrain data. :)

X9 was like that as well with the airports. Only a handful were given buildings. Some you had to pay for others could be downloaded for free. It nice to be rewarded with a somewhat populated and built airport after a virtual flight from Logan to JFK or heathrow to Paris. Always hated that about XPLANE. There's something truly immersive arriving at an international airport and having it feel international.

DCS: A-10C Tutorial Collection (PDF´s and Videos)
element1108 replied to MemphisBelle's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Love it! Month 1 with a newborn and impossible to find time to fly, leaves lots of time to study ;). -
I like the news letter format, it's nice getting an email with this info in it. Means you don't have to sift through as many complaints sometimes ;) (sorry complainers, no offense..Merry Christmas). It's nice to know when to expect Nevada now, there are a lot of cool things going on with ED between now and the summer so given I have two of the most complex sims I'm still mastering, there's lots to do between now and summer 2012. Managed to get BS 2 on sale as well...w00t!

Amazing!

Clever breakdown, I stand corrected :). I'm in the pro gamer with this title. Looks interesting, but the latest video was somewhat underwhelming apart from the over dramatic music which I liked ;).

Very nice!

Ohhh, that link is golden. There were a few things I couldn't quite get the hang of, this should help.

Yeah I can see the cartoony style might not work for everybody :).

I think it looks pretty good during the day as well. It's no ORBX, but it's global scenery and doesn't destroy my aged computer hehe. There are always trade offs, I've never been able to run a brand new sim at highest rez so perhaps that's why my visual expectations aren't so high.

Home made cockpit, but the night time lighting looks fantastic.

Agreed, a decent game of the "flash and trash" category (just made that category up). Had some fun with it for awhile. Found it for $5.99 in a bargain bin so definitely got my money's worth.

You are pretty heavily invested in FSX so it might be a difficult "choice" for you regarding XPLANE 10. I am a user of both FSX and XPlane (9) haven't tried 10 yet, but the improvements sound monumental. I'm hoping it's only a matter of time before PMDG start making ad ons for XPLANE seeing as FSX is no longer being supported by microsoft, XPLANE 10 seems to be the "future" of civil flight sims. Keep a close eye on it, especially after release, I'm sure all of your questions will be answered and will give you enough confidence to make an educated choice. That blew me away when I saw it awhile ago, the roads and house detail really help fufill that illusion of flight.

After patches we have to do everything different
element1108 replied to vortex360's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I agree fully, except I believe other developers have left flight sims simply because they cost too much for what they feel they can gain. The negatrons will never go away, especially on the internet. Their entitled to their "opinion" as long as it's in accordance with the forum rules :).:pilotfly: Not directed at the OP, but how serious some individuals take this (to go as far as slamming and criticizing the company that essentially is feeding you at this point) on business decisions, updates, new products simply because it doesn't fit the individuals preferences is beyond me. I know we're a community here and we all contribute to some degree, but the roadmap released by Wags was IMHO a very positive thing, but many have turned it into a very negative thing. I just don't understand that mentality I guess and it's amazing to see what it takes to make some people "happy". I LOVE how ED supports their titles, FC3 is a classic example of that. The game is 10 years old and is still getting patched/updated. Yes there is a price to pay, but overall it's improvement the whole game experience, not just bug fixing. The new roadmap has indicated some growth in their ambitions as well, also VERY far from a bad thing. CODEMASTERS by comparison drops support on their titles after 6 months, COD brass drop their limited support after a year (new one every year at full retail price). ops, that was rant-ee...I'm sorry about that. BMS: It's recent release has kept the Falcon dream alive. Jet Thunder: What, 7-8 years in the making, due now to be released Dec 2011, but if you've seen any gameplay video it's hardly inspiring. Fighter Ops:...... Seven G: ......... ED: (see wags roadmap as well as FC2, BS2, A-10C) CloD: Some people can play, many can't, I can't in it's current state. It will be a good year or so before it's playable, and I paid full price for it (my fault in purchasing so hastily). Rise of Flight: Great sim, but the airframes make can make it costly and WWI isn't everybody's cup of tea. Online is airquake and lacks variety. -
I know it's tough and can be time consuming, but if you join a squad the whole password thing pretty much goes away and you're online gaming experience will improve 100 fold. There are a number of "light" squads out there, most are pretty cool and are very welcoming to those who have loads of RL demands. If you have the time though, Hard Core squads are where it's at. Discipline, tactics, you learn whilst you fly...great experience (if your personal life allows).

No competition in my eyes, A2A does good work, but it's glorified engine management at best withon the FSX environment. I see it more of a choice than competition. The two sims represent very different values and both can be enjoyed equally. (assuming flying legends is in fact a WWII airframe.)
-
There is a HUGE WWII Market out there. If DCS Flying Legends is WWII or COLD war ?? There will be an audience for it. It's a great way to capture that audience and generate more income for the company ensuring it's continued success is a good thing for us simmers. For those who don't like WWII planes (assuming it is a WWII plane) that's fine, but there are LOADS who love them and would pounce on the opportunity to fly a WWII from the same company that's producing the best modern combat flight sims today. To think, we'll have 10 airframes to fly in an online environment. Air to air, air to ground and a fricken helicopter. No modern air combat sim has given us that amount of airframes to play with under one roof. If they build it, people will buy it...despite it being "your thing" or not. If it's got wings an engine and has guns....many will "fly it".

In the past I've debated against a FC3 as to not hold up the development of DCS modules. I did end by saying that should a FC3 come about, I would be super happy. The roadmap is exciting for everybody who fly's ED products, seeing as there's no real competition I love how ED are not letting that fact keep them from pushing our expectations.
-
Speak for yourself mate, ED can clearly handle everyone's wishes, FC3 and continuing with the next module and it is clear they've broke most expectations with the flying legends and other goodies. They are making leaps and bounds and not just small micro moves, so be patient and enjoy the ride.

Man oh man, fantastic news and LOVE the future of this series. There is some serious development going on I couldn't have even imagined. Frankly I'll be all over each and every one of these planned projects. The more features and airframes (no matter the era) in the DCS world the better IMHO. Thanks for the update!

I noticed this directly. Two maps from COD United Offensive were re-skinned and re-purposed in COD4 MW and MW2 (haven't played MW3). Carentan from United Offensive is in COD 4 (china town night MP) and a Russian Map (forget the name) is in MW2 (forget the name as well). Once I recognized it I started to kick ass simply because my COD UO days came back to me. Boy that was a good COD game.

I wish real life was so banal that I could take to slamming the company of whome I get some valued entertainment for charging $20 for what appears to be a pretty beefy upgrade. We saw the same complaints and were charged for fc2.0 why not apply the same logic. Each module contains vast improvements over the last so it's much more than a "patch." arma ii series had paid additions and with that you get mp compatibility. There has never been a sim produced to dcs level and been online compatible. Is MW2 compatible with MW3? Will arma 3 be compatible with arma 2. No. ED's business model isn't their bible, nothing is conclusive in the wording and if you haven't been around for the last 4 years you'd know lots has changed since then. As if the 9 month argument came up yet again...ridiculous. I'm sorry but games are entertainment, are we so petty we have to argue and debate every bloody thing ED chooses to do? Either go with it or don't, it's their asses on the line, not yours. I would also like to point out sim enthusiasts should enjoy what they have now, nothing is guaranteed in the future. (fighter ops, jet thunder, seven g etc.) Ed are producing results, the rest are fluff.

You're new to these forums according to your info - perhaps you're not familiar with Viper's personality. IMHO it was a warranted response, the initial post was the equivalent of a child having a tantrum in a toy store and should be addressed as such. It's not the ideal situation, but it's a solution to the problem. Welcome to the world of computer science and the complexities of hifi sims.

Wow, what a nice surprise! It kills me I have no setup to play currently (house reno's), but purchasing regardless. Nice to know its there when life catches up to entertainment a bit! Happy with the upgrades as well!! Baaaaam!

Time to revert to Blackshark??
element1108 replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in User Created Missions General
I'm on a lappy as well, for me I killed off fsx (too much space, modules I couldn't take full visual advantage of.) I recently deleted Cliffs of Dover as well until they fix those issues. ED sims stay on the HD at all costs. (but that's just me). I've been playing since beta and it's still my go to sim when I get some time to play. Not really sure. The choice to fly the missions is yours, and flying online with a squad is the greatest a10 experience IMHO. I actually don't even bother with the campaigns. User created missions and a squad with tactics, chain of command and specific human roles to fill. It's amazing what a GCI can do or immersion, squad air to air refueling and a human airborne JTAC. It's a deep ocean man, explore a bit ;).
