I disagree. The plane set is both historical and about as balanced as you can get. The spitfire can easily take on the all the German planes. The P51D is an even match vs the Dora(maybe a little bit better depending on recent changes) and completely outclasses the Anton. The 109K4 has the advantage over the P51D in a 1v1 but in a group the P51D is just as good. And a P51D paired with a spitfire is a formidable combination.

Storm of War server has MW50 disabled. So the germans are badly outclassed on that server. The P51D with WEP is about the same speed as the Dora with WEP on the deck at the moment. The Dora used to be the fastest but is slower by about 12 knots after one of the recent updates.
-
The Dora has been a buggy mess and a joke of an airplane for a long time(Six years or so). Ever since the WEP was broken in an update shortly after the spit 9 was released its been a terrible plane. The engine constantly broke if WEP was used without any indication that damage was done. You would just be flying slower. You could not do any slow manuevers or the engine would blow as well. Which ment you couldn't really take fights into the vertical. Those changes/bugs ment people stopped flying the plane and those that did only used hit and run tactics. The Dora used to be an awesome fighter. You did not have to hit and run you could stay and fight if you properly managed your energy. I think however that a lot of these problems may have been fixed recently. I tested the Dora over the last couple of days and was able to do aerobatic manuevers and use WEP for 10 minutes at a time without engine problems. It feels kind of like a fighter again. The only negative performance difference I noticed was that its top speed at sea level is about 12knots slower, which is a bit of a bummer. I have not had a chance to try it out in a dogfight yet because the only populated WW2 server has MW50 disabled on the German planes.

My guess is your flying to slow. You should be at full throttle most of a fight. Only lowering to perform a particular manuever that requires reduced throttle setting.
-
Abrasive language aside, when I say 109G6 I am not talking about late variants with MW50. I did not know you were. A late 109G6 with MW50 could be a good complement to the planes we already have.
-
He is saying its semi- historical because we don't have a suitable map for the historical plane set we have. The Normandy map is a little early for the FW190D9 and 109K4. An early 1945 map would fit the aircraft we have well. All the WW2 planes we have were operational at the same time except maybe for the FW190A8 but you can pretend its a FW190F8. :)

"What a steaming pile of nonsense." Not one for having a respectful discussion I see. It's comments like this that degrade the quality of these forums. You say "fanboi" is not an insult and then in the same paragraph you go on to explain why it is. It's a derogatory term or insult, your not saying it to add to the conversation you are saying it to undermine people who have a different opinion to you. You are obsessed with the 109G6 because of the Normandy map which is a mid 1944 map. The 109G14 was being produced from early 1944 so its not a stretch that the G14 could fit the Normandy map. Not that many(if any) Normandy scenarios which include extensive German air resistance are accurate anyway. The German air force was effectively non existent over Normandy. The vast majority of the German air force was fighting bombers over Germany or on the eastern front. A WW2 map of West Germany would be much more realistic. That's where western allied fighters were encountering the German air force in significant numbers. "If people want to fly K-4s and D-9s in ahistorical scenarios there are multiplayer servers that cater for them already." I would like historical scenarios for the K4 and Dora. As I said a 1945 map would be much better. So we can have realistic historical scenarios with the modules many people already own. And a larger variety of aircraft. "And a G-14 is not a G-6 with MW50. Are they closely related, yes, but are two different aircraft.". Well I don't know what you were on about in regards to late war 109G6 performing the same as K4. I never said that. Though I do believe the G14 is actually the same plane but with MW50. Not even all 109G6s were the same, it depended on which factory the plane was built from and when.

"you 109 fanbois" very constructive of you to open with an insult. "I do wish you 109 fanbois would get you arguments straight" haha, there is no 109 fan club conspiring together, everybody has different opinions even among people who happen to like the same plane! Surprising I know but its just how life works. "One minute half you argue "G-6 is craplane, don't want" and on the other hand you have a section vociferously arguing that the later G-6 models with MW50 had performance so close to the K-4 that the K-4 makes a good stand in, so good in fact that there's no point in making a G-6". I think your being disingenuous here. You know that when people say they don't want the 109G6 they are talking about a 109G6... not a 109G14(109G6 with MW50). Surely you are aware that there is a huge performance difference between these two variants. My position is simple and is solely based on wanting the best multiplayer experience with historical accuracy. We already have a competitive historical line up. To want to switch to a different time period making people not be able to fly the modules they already own(the FW190D9 and 109K4) is not going to be good for player numbers. These modules are not cheap. To make it worse, the plane you want(109G6) was operational when German fighters were severely outclassed by their allied counterparts. This would mean an unbalanced match up and would further hurt player numbers. Instead of a 109G6 I would like to see a 109G14 with the option of wing cannons. This would increase the German plane set from three to four for multiplayer missions/scenarios. It is also historically accurate, competitive and people can use the modules they already own! Just need a suitable map. An AI 109G6 is fine.

The people who want the 109G6 seem to be people that predominantly fly allied planes. I guess it's because they don't like how well the 109K4 performs compared to thier aircraft. I think the current plane set is about as balanced as you can get and is historically accurate.150 octane for the P51D will make the 109K4 the only viable fighter on a side that only has two fighters(FW190 and 109). I think the FW190D is already not very good as is. Trying to replace the 109K4 with the 109G6 will create an environment where german pilots will not be able to compete. Both the spitfire 9 and P51D will be at a huge advantage over the german aircraft. If you want both balance and historical accuracy then the current plane set is good for 1945. If I was going to have another late war 109 it would be the 109G14. But it would have to have something the K4 doesnt have(the option to mount extra wing cannons for example). An AI G6 is needed though.

I'm a life long 109 fan to. It's been my favorite plane for ever. My favorite variant is the E4 followed by the F4 and finally the K4.
-
The F4 is better then the 109G6. The 109G6 will be even worse if balance is your concern.
-
Check you control bindings. The yellow lever on the left rear of the throttle is your flap lever. You can use mouse to click on it till it's all the way up.
-
Lol, so true. I see people flying with their gear down way to often.
-
The Doras rockets are all anti bomber weapons. Not very good for ground attack.
-
Can they just copy and paste the P47D pilot into the P51D? or is that inaccurate?
-
Yeah screw the 109G6 its a terrible plane. Heavy and under powered for the time. A 109F4 would be way better, or a classy 109E4.
-
Coming from a 109 pilot, some frustrations...
Snapage replied to Poopskadoop's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I disagree. I think the FW190D9 is not very easy to stay alive in if you plan to engage other planes. All you need is a P51D on your six with similar or more energy to you and your toast. You cant escape. Your not much faster then the P51D in a climb and the .50s have plenty of range on them. Any turning maneuver you make is giving the P51D more of an advantage and the P51D out dives you. The 109K4 however can turn to get a P51D off his six or climb or try to force an overshoot. -
Why there isn't a guide how to fight in Dora?
Snapage replied to wizav's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Maybe that's been fixed now, I don't know. I have not flown it in ages because I don't find it any fun compared to the other planes. I prefer to fly the A8 over the Dora. -

The FW190D9 used to be able to fight really well before a series of updates which made it's engine very fragile and overheat more easily. Any videos older then 2020 are not accurate representations of the Doras performance in DCS in its current state. -

To be honest, I don't recommend the Dora unless you only want to do hit and run tactics and ground attack. It's probably ok againts bombers to but the A8 is better for that. It can't turn very well at all and any kind of turning in a fight is generally giving your opponent an advantage so you really only have one option. You can hit and run, not exactly what I look for in a fighter. Before the P51Ds climb rate was improved it was decent, it could get an altitude advantage and keep it but now it can really only hit and run. The spitfire eats it alive with its far superior climb rate and turning ability. I think the A8 is a much nicer module and it can hit and run as well. -
It all depends on what you are interested in flying and how much money you are prepared to spend. The P47D is not finished yet. Engine management is not finished and the flight model is subject to change. But the plane works and you can use all weapons, bombs etc. If you like: A big single engine fighter. To be able to take punishment and survive Ground attack Excellent dive performance Excellent high altitude performance More hands on engine management(not completely modelled yet). Radial engines A challenging air combat experience(probably not going to be king of the skies at low alt). And just like the plane in general then I would say the P47D is a good choice. If you like to get into sustained dog fights, furballs, don't mind being slower then other fighters and are fond of the spitfire. Then I would say the spitfire 9 is for you. If you like to fly fast, good high speed manueverability, like both air to air and ground attack, don't mind having to dive away from a fight when you don't have energy advantage and like the P51D. Then the P51D is for you. That's the allied planes. The german planes are great as well though I am not a fan of the Dora at the moment. I really think it's not good at much at all. The 109K4 is arguably the best WW2 fighter in DCS and the most fun german plane in my opinion. If you were interested in getting a german plane so you can fly on both sides I think the 109K4 is the only choice. It can hold it's own againts all the allied planes and can carry one 250kg or one 500kg bomb for ground attack as well. It's fast, great at boom and zoom tactics but can also turn fight very well. The A8 feels great as a module, can carry a wide variety of bombs and armed with two machine guns and four cannons. But it's at a big disadvantage in air to air vs the allied planes(it may be a match for the P47D at low alt not sure). The Dora does not have much of a speed advantage on the P51D and is terrible at turning. It is only good for diving on unsuspecting planes and extending away. If an enemy plane gets behind you with similar energy to you you are in a lot of trouble.

Lol oops miss type thanks!

I use CH pedals and I have about 20 curvature on most of the WW2 planes including the P47D. As people have said above its best to experiment and find what suits you.
