I don't know about you but I think having a real P47D to eleven without turbo would give me a pretty good idea of how it sounds and feels. At low alt anyway. I'm sure they could have got some sounds from a P47D that has it's turbo if there is one. But I doubt they are going to take it up to 30000 feet so you get nice sound quality for a game. Its no surprise if they needed to supplement the sound effects with sounds from other sources. I'm sure ED did a decent job. It sounds pretty good. It's kind of cool how they got the detail of the reletively quiet in cockpit engine sound due to the turbocharger exhaust behind the pilot.

The P51D and P47D are very different aircraft as people have pointed out. The P47D is slow and relatively vulnerable at low altitudes but is the best allied fighter at very high altitudes 25000 and above. The P51D is faster and more manueverable at low and medium altitudes. The P47D has a slower climb rate then the P51D. The P47D is arguably the best in a dive of all the WW2 planes. It accelerates faster and does not fall apart in a dive like the other aircraft. It also has dive recovery flaps. The P51D will fall apart at 505mph below 10000ft in a dive. I have not been able to get the P47D to break in a dive, the fastest I have got is 560mph. The P47D is all manual controlled(RPMs, turbo, cowl flaps, turbo intercooler, oil intercooler). The P51D has auto oil radiator, water radiator, supercharger(though I find I need to manually operate them in DCS to prevent engine failure. Especially the oil radiator). The flaps in the P51D can easily be used in combat and are very responsive. The P47D flaps can be used in flight but are slower to deploy and there is a short delay between being able to switch between raising and lowering. The P47D seems to be able to turn well when it has energy and retains its energy well but once it's slow its very slow to build its speed up again. The P51D is good in a turn when it has energy but is more inclined to have structural failures if pushed to hard. The P51D is faster at accelerating. The P47D has eight (edited: changed incorrect four guns to eight) .50 cal machine guns vs the P51Ds six though I feel like the P47D runs out of ammo noticeably faster then the P51D. The current variant of the P47D can carry three bombs. The P51D can carry two bombs + six rockets. The P47D 40 should be able to carry rockets but we don't have it yet. The P47D is powered by a massive robust radial engine while the P51D has a comparably more vulnerable inline engine. The P47D is a much stronger and robust aircraft in general. It can take more punishment, reach higher speeds and survive. These are the differences I have noticed.

I have not been able to fly the F14 on multiplayer servers without DCS crashing for a few months at least. I don't know if there is a pattern to it. It just seems to randomly crash. Last flight I tried, it crashed after flying the F14 for about 20mins, I was in level flight at high alt not really pressing any buttons. The time before that it crashed shortly after I started the right engine. This does not happen with other modules. I have flown the F18, P51D, spitfire and P47D for long periods without any crashes. The F14 is the only module that consistently crashes for me. I have made this post because this module has been effectively unusable in multiplayer for a long time now. I don't fly single player much so I don't know if its the same in single player. This is my favorite jet module by far, its a real shame it isnt working right now.

Any Comm. Flights Scheduled for June 6?
Snapage replied to durka-durka's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I have been told there will be a DCS air show this weekend. It will be made up of many DCS aerobatics teams. -
You should also look at flying on multiplayer servers like acrobatics online. People are very helpful and are usually very keen to help you overcome any difficulties or problems if you ask them in the chat. You should also join the Teamspeak and/or discord for the servers you fly on. The DCS community is pretty good.

DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
Snapage replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yep, It will be fun a fun module to fly and good vs AI. But will struggle to create missions to have it in PvP without any suitable aircraft to go up against it. -
I think most people who want this plane want it because its a fun unique aircraft to fly. Most people should know its not going to be good at low altitude. Then again people complained that the FW190A8 was to slow and could not fight when it was released. LOL I just hope its not a paper plane that falls apart once it goes 1mph faster then its max speed like the other modules. Why would you rate a planes max speed 1mph slower then the point at which it disintegrates?
-
K. Well I am not sure if I will get the module if the control surfaces fall of at around 510mph below 10000 feetlike they do on the mustang. It makes no sence to me.
-
Does anyone know what the max speed the P47D could get to without breaking up?
-
I thought it was because pilots were crashing into the ground because they lost the ability to pull up when their speed got to high in a dive.
-
I know what you mean. I doubt its going to be much of a dog fighter at low altitude because its slow and heavy. But at high altitude it should be good and it brings some cool new features that the other warbirds don't have like dive recovery flaps. My biggest concern is it's dive performance. Planes in DCS eject their control surfaces at high speed, I hope the P47D doesn't do that. There would be no point in dive recovery flaps if the plane falls apart before you get to speeds where you need them. This is one thing I want to know before I get the module.

The FW190A8 is slow and does not fair well in dog fights againts the P51D and Spitfire 9. The FW190D9 is faster but seems to have engine cooling problems and does not turn very well. It's not much of a dog fighter atm. The 109K4 is the best WW2 fighter in DCS at the moment. It's very fast, has the fastest climb rate and can turn very well. The Spitfire 9 is the best in a dogfight. When flown well the Germans are forced to run from it. But it's slow so it can't disengage very easily. The P51D is not great at turning but is very fast. With reduced fuel(68% is to much) and flying to its strengths it's an excellent fighter. It struggles vs the 109.
-
Could be the result of an engine cooling problem. It's possible your engine randomly overheated which is something that seems to happen to me when I fly it. There is no indication that the engine is damaged except for slower top speed.
-
I am pretty sure developing a modern jet fighter takes much more time and resources then a WW2 fighter. You don't have to worry about modeling radar, RWR, TPOD, air to air refueling, programmable smart weapons, modern navigation systems, HUD, MFDs, fly by wire, remote guided weapons etc in a way that they all function realistically together whilst using in cockpit buttons and controls. For WW2 fighters it's basically engine, radiators, gear, flaps, battery, damage model and flight model. Which all has to be done for Modern fighters as well.

Can always report and kick/ban people for doing this. -
Remove WWII Fantasy Skins from Mission Editor
Snapage replied to healerf18's topic in DCS Core Wish List
We are talking about giving mission makers the ability to choose what skins are available to players without having to disable the ability to change skins. E.g. A mission maker should be able to remove the Japanese skins from the livery list for the FW190A8. Or remove the racing skins from the ME109 livery list. This is a big deal for people who fly as a group and want to be able to choose the same skin. At the moment servers have this feature disabled because they don't want to see fictional/racing skins all through their WW2 mission. It should be an option available to mission makers. -
Easy solution would be to ban msamala. Then this thread would be civil. All he has done is insult people and add nothing to the conversation.
-
You know msalama, being nice to other people doesnt cost you anything but it sure makes you look better ;) Fixed it for you. :) Buy seriously msalama has been nothing but a troll in this thread.

Remove WWII Fantasy Skins from Mission Editor
Snapage replied to healerf18's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think what would be ideal is if mission makers could choose what skins will be available in the load out menu. -
Well all aircraft are energy fighters and should fly efficiently. That includes all kinds of maneuvers that involve turning, climbing diving etc. Just because a plane turns better then another doesn't mean you should dump all your energy advantage to turn and burn. A FW190D9 that is able to keep altitude advantage and use vertical maneuvers in a fight without disengaging would be dogfighting in my book. Problem is I don't think the fw190s can do they. They used to be able to back before the spitfire was released but seems to been broken ever since. I have had good dog fights vs the FW190D9 and while flying the FW190D9 in the past. I don't think it can do it anymore. When Im fighting the D9 its always the same story. The FW190D9 is either shot down or forced back to friendly AA. It just can't keep the energy advantage againts someone who knows what they are doing in the P51D and spitfire 9. To make a FW190D9 ineffective when flying the spitfire is very simple, climb above him and keep altitude advantage. They can't out climb you and they can't fight you so they have to run away( or get shot down). The P51D climbs well enough now that it can chase a FW190D9 up to altitudes where it starts to gain a performance advantage. The D9 won't get enough separation before then to be able to turn and attack.
-
The german planes do seem less popular. The109K4 is fun to fly, it can hold it's own and dogfight. The FW190s on the other hand are not very good to fight in. The A8 is slow and the D9 can't turn. People who say the FW190D9 is a boom and zoomer don't seem to understand that any plane can boom and zoom. Diving on unaware opponents is not skillfull or challenging, it's what you do when your plane is outclassed and can't compete in a fight. It also gets boring quickly, at least for me. I find the most fun comes from out maneuvering an aponent in a relatively equal engagement or from a disadvantage.
-
The loss of power happens due to heating issues I believe. Nothing to do with battle damage. The FW190D9 seems to overheat very easily in a climb.
-
How do you know the engine is bit damaged? There is no indication apart from loss in speed you can still fly but you are much slower.
-
All fighters are energy fighters. I am not againts realism I just think the FW190D9 may be underperforming because of engine overheating problems. If you find yourself unable to extend away from a spitfire mid fight you can probably assume your engine is damaged. I just find you can't do aggressive vertical maneuvers in the plane without the engine being damaged and then underperforming. It may be more then this, I don't know. Maybe MW50 is broken again. I know the P51D climbs much better after the last few updates which is another major driver behind the FW190D9 not being able to compete. Dont know if there is a fix for that. At the moment in my opinion germany only has one fighter, the ME109K4. I like the air to air combat in WW2 Sims for the close range dog fights and furballs. I like the challenge of outmanuevering a formidable oponent for a victory and seeing planes fly everywhere in chaos. That's why I play DCS WW2. If there were no 109K4s in DCS WW2 there would be no incentive for me to do DCS WW2. Dominating in a superior aircraft or have to run away in an inferior aircraft is very boring. I would have to find a sim with a better plane match up.

A G14 with the option of wing mounted cannons would be awesome. May as well include the 109G6 with it because it's the same plane just without MW50. It's the obvious way to go if ED were going to make another flyable 109.
