Funny, I put my G2 up for sale and looking to get a Quest Pro for the time being. Also put my name down for a VR1 but only if it's really good because I don't really have the room setup for base stations. The Crystal is big and heavy but the only thing keeping me away from it is having to deal with their support and the fact that while many may seem to have no issues, I've read about the chromatic aberration on the lenses and other oddities that are not consistent form device to device so it's very much luck of the draw with what you get. With my luck from the the past stuff usually goes wrong after the return period is done. I wonder if the clarity issue mentioned above is because the headset wasn't sitting properly on the face..because from what I've seen everyone else says theres clarity everywhere and it's a matter of shifting it to get the sweet spot correct?

On paper it's better than quest 2 and possibly the G2 if you think about the fov and pancake lenses. But that does not matter if it will run like crap in DCS. So we wait to see actual usage of it from those that pre-ordered.
-
Looking forward to impressions if you do happen to try it out in DCS. I feel like with the G2 I only ever used it for DCS and because of wmr and workarounds I never dabbled too much in actual VR games. I also wasn't a fan of the controllers but that's besides the point. It would be nice to have a headset that works nicely with my primary function for flight but also the ease of accessing other games if need be.

I remember people in the Q pro subreddit talking about not using the official link cable because it didn't help with the charge and they recommended using this instead. Kuject Design 16FT Link Cable for Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro, with Separate Charging Port for Ultra-Durable Power, USB 3.0 Type A to C Cable for VR Headset Accessories and Gaming PC https://a.co/d/ioNU5oJ I also have an Asus z790e board so I'm familiar with the USB power distribution which can be tricky on these boards.
-
It depends I think most people would prefer a clear picture all over vs a sweet spot in the center. I know it sucks about the link cable but you can put the bitrate up to 500 or so and that should help. The Q3 should have better performance in this regard.
-
The other advantage the pro has is using DFR so that will help performance. I know the pro is no longer going to be produced but as long as it will still be supported it should be fine. There is at least one person that pre-ordered a quest 3 to try out DCS. I'm eagerly awaiting the results!

PIMAX Crystal SIM Edition 72Hz, no controllers €1369
sze5003 replied to winghunter's topic in Virtual Reality
From what I've researched, because I've been interested in getting a Crystal but too afraid to deal with all the issues and slow support form China, yes it's a powered hub but most people replace it with something equivalent from Amazon. Not sure how the headset is keeping the battery charged without the hub if it is plugged directly into the PC. Most motherboards don't transmit that much power. -
What headset did you come from? I am really curious for someone to do a Quest Pro vs quest 3 comparison but for DCS or sims in generally. Initial impressions are that Q3 has clarity like Reverb G2 lenses but all over so that would mean better overall resolution. Colors are probably brighter on the quest pro. We are also probably limited to ASW with the Q3 if you can't hit 90fps whereas the pro can run 72hz.

PIMAX Crystal SIM Edition 72Hz, no controllers €1369

Have you had any issues with the included USB hub? Any disconnects or I guess had to do work arounds to get it to stay connected? On their support discord a lot of people are having some issues related to either the cables or the hub. -
I think it will be the go to headset to get for the masses in terms of VR games and standalone but for PCVR we will have to see some comparisons, specifically in dcs.

There is another reddit thread where a guy got to play with one for 3 hours. He's answering a bunch of questions and pretty much saving it's got a large fov with clarity in the lenses same as the G2 but all over instead of just the middle. That is really good to hear if that is the case. Although I'm thinking the quest pro will still have an overall higher fov as it's dual lenses vs single.
-
You need lighthouses for the Aero. Either base stations 1.0 or 2.0 (I heard these work better). Not sure if the cv1 sensors will work for it.
-
Seems like an overall improvement in resolution compared to the quest 2 although he didn't compare it much to the Pro unless I missed something in the video. Makes sense at its price point the charging dock will be extra. I still think eye tracking is important for sims but this is geared more towards a complete standalone experience. There's some folks from here who pre-ordered for using it in DCS so that will be interesting to see.
-
I should be able to super sample to 1.5 with the 4090, 13900k and 32gb of ram. The quest 3 optics should be better with the same clarity around the sides due to the pancake lenses. But without eye tracking then there's no DFR to help performance. Still I'll wait for some quest 3 reviews and comparisons. But I understand they had to keep the price down. I'd get the crystal if honestly I felt better about their customer support and process but it's not convincing enough with my luck.

I remember the G1 issues. I had to have my headset replaced twice. Each time they did an advanced RMA and I had a headset before I had to send mine back in. Then I got the G2 and the first one had a dead pixel on the left side of the view. I called them and they didn't ask me for a video or picture because that would have been very difficult but we ran through basic troubleshooting on the headset and my PC and they sent out another one. Second G2 was perfect until the cable went bad. Replaced the cable form HP and that lasted until it went bad a second time but by that time they had manufactured a new cable with a power switch and I called in and asked to buy one but they sent it to me free of charge. No issues since then luckily. Basically I don't have the best of luck anytime I buy electronics.

I am considering upgrading from my G2 to the crystal because I don't have the required room setup for base stations. I've watched so many reviews including the one linked. Seems like some had good experiences whereas a few others always ran into issues or had to resort to workarounds like replacing the USB hub which isn't a big deal but on a headset that price that requires the hub for PCVR, it should have a decent one included. I've been spending time in the pimax discord and there's lots of QA and customer support complaints. Mainly because how long it takes to get support and the language issues. They ask for through the lense video to troubleshoot any problems you may have with the headset and a lot of other troubleshooting steps which is perfectly fine as long as they are replied to in a day or 2 but the thing is they are not..takes much longer. For this reason I'm hesitant to even get one. Sure Amazon is selling it for $300 more and I could return it but it's still scary to have to be in that support/rma hell situation. At this point I'm waiting to see some quest 3 reviews just because I'm curious. I'm leaning more towards a quest pro to replace my G2.

Looking forward to your analysis whenever it arrives.

Yea I would like to know the same. I guess we will have to see I'm sure there will be some folks who get the quest 3 and will use it in dcs. On paper though the resolution is less than the G2 but the lenses will probably make a big difference.
-
I feel like they missed the mark without having eye tracking when the psvr has it. I need to upgrade from the G2 but don't really have any options without base stations. If the quest 3 had similar resolution as the G2 but better fov and eye tracking, I think it would have been great. But it's really for standalone and other VR games which they are great for in general.

PIMAX Crystal SIM Edition 72Hz, no controllers €1369
sze5003 replied to winghunter's topic in Virtual Reality
Their whole post on the subreddit said lighthouse and base stations are not required for the sim edition because most people using it for sims either use racing wheels or HOTAS. You can't pull up menus using keyboard/mouse? I'm trying to upgrade from a G2 but I can't do a headset that requires base stations so this seems like the next best thing. Unfortunately I'm not reading too many good things about their after sales support. -
I wish I knew this before when I created this post. Because now I think my warranty may be expired but I will email him with my order number and ask for a new motor.
-
Did you ever find replacement motors? One of my motors stopped working but I have not found which ones I would have to buy. https://imgur.com/a/4TB869E

AAR difficulty somehow increased since the C model (?)
sze5003 replied to Razor18's topic in A-10C Iron Flag Part I Campaign
The only thing I noticed with the AAR in that mission was that the tanker constantly turned so I just had to keep trying to plug in while he was in the turn. After several attempts and many hours I did fill up completely but I did start the mission in the air from part 2 so I didn't have to do the first part of the mission each time. I actually had an easier time staying connected in the turn rather than when he was flying straight because by the time I was set up properly, speed wise and trim, and inching forward, I noticed the boom operator danced around with the boom too much and before I knew it he was going into a turn again. So yea I think the boom operator was a bit less stable than the last time I tried in like 2019 or so. -
The only time I had issues with radios is when I was trying to set them on preset channels and I had not realized BD had already set presets later on during the campaign. Make sure all the radios are in TR setting and check the volume knobs of each radio on the left hand side behind the throttle. You need to also make sure your apu is on, apu gen and gen 1 and gen 2 are on in order for the FM radios to work properly. Also make sure easy comms is not checked in your dcs settings.

investigating Mission 1 Experiences
sze5003 replied to Ready's topic in A-10C Iron Flag Part I Campaign
If you go exactly where you started the mission on the ramp, he should walk you through shutdown.
