  1. It the as long as it is within 4 days, is where the issue is If it was you can use offline login, then sure no problem
  2. Not the same as offline login though So far master server has not been down for 4 days, but I have no way of predicting the future And as stated it only has to be down for ONE day for it to be a problem for a user That is not the same, currently buy, download, activate and you are good to go offline and play for a long as you want currently requires internet activation. is how you are selling modules will it be changed to requires internet connection every 4 days to work ?
  3. My PC died and I had to build a new one I had to activate all modules again and it was a ballache to have to enter so many keys and activate ..... ... but not as much of a ballache as not being able to play at all because of not being able to phone home every 4 days
  4. Yes indeedy steam does go down, the handy offline start option gets around that, so do other online login systems eg rof So DCS World will have this feature as well then ?, then would be great
  5. Hopefully they will listen and see sense to not go down this road Right now if master server down / or you cannot connect at least you have SP With this new system you have added another central point of failure to the system, no connect/cannot connect = no DCS :-( And one thing I know for sure from experience, if it can go wrong ... it will go wrong
  6. How much more warning ? The amount I asked for, a couple of posts above The ability to make an informed decision based on what you guys knew was about to happen, but did not tell us. "By the way if you pre-purchase the Harrier it will come with a new DRM system that will force you to phone home to our servers every 4 days or you purchased software will stop working" Even Matts Letter did not go into this at all, such a big change should have warranted a few sentences in his heart felt letter surely?
  7. What if you have no connection of anytype ? software wont work It doesnt have to be down for 4 days, just the day when you are forced to connect Why did ED not communicate these changes while they were selling the Harrier on pre-order ? Did one of the programmers just go to the managers yesterday morning "got a great new idea for changing the copy protection" ?
  8. I play both MP and SP When Iam not connected to the net (travelling etc) I can play SP New system means No play Or if master server goes down no play for everyone
  9. I have to disagree with you BigNewy Right now I 1. buy a module 2. install 3. Then activate online (once per module) Then I have no further need to connect to net, all is well This new way is more of a rental type deal, phone home at our designated period or else you can no longer rent our software Because due to circumstances outside our control net can go down (ever had issues with an ISP?) guess not Some people do not have 24/7 access to the net, some might not have it for a while (eg weeks) We have legally paid for our software, why would it be fair to punish us And the basic fact is that we were sold these modules under the guise of "requires internet connection to activate" Or are ED going to offer refunds because they have changed to deal after we have already paid
  10. hmmmm I liked the openess of your "letter" the other day ...... But suddenly after everyone who wanted the Harrier has already paid you announce a new copy protection system that will require it to phone home every 4 days or it still stop working Why was this not metioned BEFORE people we able to buy this so they could make an informed decision? seems kinda dodgy (dare I even say deceptive) to move the goal posts surely you guys knew this was coming, it did not appear out of the blue? Iam not a big fan of starforce, but at least once you activated a module you could play it without having to be online ED have stated that SP is their biggest userbase, much more than MP users. Some of them will like me, not have internet connection for a while which means no DCS :-( All the modules bought so far have had "Requires internet activation" Which is ok, but now will it be "requires internet connection every 4 days to work" ? So we bought the software under one set of rules which are now going to be changed But changed after the money has already been exchanged I humbly urge you to re-think this new system to make it better of the end user (which will benefit ED by less complaints)
  11. I went for 34" 3440 x 1440 @ 100Hz with G-Sync , best thing I did, the G-Sync makes all the difference
  12. So to be clear on this new protection Once modules are activated and you do not connect to the internet again things will work ok for the end user ?
  13. My rule is that if the latest gen is 40-50% faster than the card I currently have then time to upgrade, some cards I have owned have been a few gens apart because it was not worth the money to upgrade
  14. depends of what type of "film" you may be watching , lol
  15. I have had issues matching 2 kits bought at different times (exact same make and model mind you), but those 2 sticks in each kit are matched at the factory By them selves each kit worked great, but together was a ballache (slots were all tested so knew it want mobo) Run them all 2400 and all is well maybe ?
  16. huh? No way would I ever buy an over priced off the shelf PC Most of the time from reading in forums when people return a faulty card get at worst they get the same performance as their old one, most of the time u get a much better/newer one
  17. Yes I was kinda sad that proper dedicated server was not mentioned anywhere
  18. Wow, you have some weird death to electonics touch about you Then again, I avoid asus boards like the plague, too many have come into me with faults
  19. Christ on a bike, that is a lot Latent ESD damage maybe ? or far too many volts pushed through it ?
  20. I have to say for myself no Unless of course we are about to get a dedicated server so people dedi hosting for others to enjoy this sim are not going to have to pay for extras that ultimately they will not be using eg maps or WW2 assets I was suprised that staff numbers were that high I figured ED were only a handfull of people to be honest Though I do think it was a good idea of Matt to do this Letter, after the news from another WW2 sim last week it is a good time to give some soothing news
  21. I have had 1000's of laptop/PC through my hands over that last nearly 20 years CPU failure in my experience is rare (only ever encountered it a couple of times) , the system was dead untili I put in a new same CPU then all was well Put duff one back in to be sure and system dead again Have hand a bunch of problems with mobo's eg totally dead, or intermittant power offs (everything else as swapped out for know good working parts Is one of your cores maybe damaged ? and that is why you are getting it to boot, generally dead CPU mean no boot at all, certainly not getting to windows level of working
  22. Like most companies with long warranties, you will get an equivalent value card (lets face it 5 years no one will have an 1080TI cards stocked)
  23. We are still up even though master server is not Go to Mulaitplayer screen -> click Connect by IP and copy this address into IP/URL line 94.23.215.203:10308 then hit enter
  24. read the article, I have to say Matt is very up beat "We plan to release DCS World 2.5 in the coming weeks!" Iam hoping this is not too many weeks, as after all everything is subject to change and all that
  25. 3 is standard for Zotac (but if you register within 28days you get 5 years) I had a bad experience many years ago, bought a slightly cheaper 8800GTX with 1 year warranty ..... damn thing broke after 15 months, had a £350 paper weight ......
