  1. Yes, that's interesting, thank you!
  2. Maybe I'm an outlier here but I prefer the pop up. Easier to see, doesn't replace anything else, and can be used in both pilot/operator roles.
  3. By way of solving the problem, the way I would like to see this work is on an aircraft, or even mission level would be very simple: Have a check box (empty by default) that says "Auto Populate threat rings and Control Measures?" If checked, it occurs. If unchecked, it does not.
  4. Wasn't there some kind of REDFOR squadron around that flew MiG-21's?
  5. I'm seeing a couple times where Petrovich successfully engages a target (free fire mode) and then when a second target is found and selected, he says that he's engaging but never actually fires. Manually giving him fire auth and/or cycling hold/free has no effect. Anyone else encountering that?
  6. I agree, the hard banking while the doors are open and the system is on is what apparently caused it.
  7. Hmm... Not my experience at all. I would say it's actually one of the most forgiving helicopters in DCS. You probably need to work on setting up some curves/saturations/etc.
  8. I'm curious to know if there are any Mi-24 specific squadrons out there. If anyone is aware of one, LMK. /Fargo
  9. This could be accurate to a certain extent. Alliances can and do change over time. Iran for instance has/had F-14's, AH-1 Cobras, Phantoms, F5's, Huey, Chinook, CH-53, etc. http://www.combataircraft.com/en/Military-Aircraft/Iran/ And there is no shortage of Western countries operating Eastern bloc aircraft either.
  10. When a person argues against something that wasn't actually asserted instead of what was, that is called a 'straw man' fallacy.
  11. What part of "not for sale unless the US Government says we can" isn't making sense for you? You don't get the flight manual until they say. I know math is hard, but making a few thousand by licensing the aircraft to a software company isn't an ROI if you're losing the sale of a single airframe, or having the biggest contract of your life (the US Government is one the customer everyone dreams of) stalled. I didn't say "In active service." I said "in active US service." I hope that clears up the mess your straw man made. LOL - This isn't Harry Potter. There are no such things as 'Ministries' involved. Boeing, Lockheed and Bell don't 'think about' something like this as much as they get authorization. Starting with the release of the flight manual. The US Government determines who these companies can sell their aircraft to, and who they can't. To suggest that they play no practical role in who these companies provide detailed technical information to is asinine. They've also determined you can see the AH-1W manual. Which is why I said this would be the latest model we'd get. They haven't said if or when you can have the AH-1Z flight manual. It happens to be in active US service and doesn't appear to be retiring anytime soon. It's funny how it works out that you just don't see the FM until that happens.
  12. Try and set their alert state to green.
  13. You're right, those are the ultimate criteria. But an aircraft manufacturer who is actively selling a military aircraft to the biggest and wealthiest customer in the world will be highly unlikely to agree to anything that pisses that customer off, or in the slightest way jeopardize the billions that are flowing in from them. Especially with no expectation of financial gain.
  14. Great find, thank you.
  15. Which of the specific variants are in active US service right now?
  16. I doubt we're going to get Jerusalem. I'm sure it won't go that far East.
  17. I think it's impossible to get the Z licensed by Bell USA and made into a DCS module while the helicopter is in active US service. We can dream though.
  18. Y'all got any of them anti-tank guys?
  19. They are still one of the best things I've ever bought for DCS and have had the biggest effect on my flying (all RW). Four years of heavy use and they are still smooth like m'butta.
  20. This isn't something that a track file would seem useful for. After import, static objects (e.g. cargos) get a "-1" appended to the unit name which breaks stuff that depends on that name.
  21. You should try it and see I guess!
  22. Any helicopter can perform in this role, but the Mi-24 seems to just excel. The answer isn't in one thing, but the totality of capabilities.... The Mi-24 gets there faster. It brings a tremendous amount of ordnance (as well as a wide variety of it) and puts it on target quickly, in an uncomplicated way. It's well armored and takes a hell of a punch up close if it has to. It handles hard maneuvering (e.g. hammerhead, return to target) very well. The speed lets you extend faster for ATGM shots, and then get the nose back on target quickly. It can carry a squad of QRF troops to assist if needed. Or RTB with a CASEVAC if that's called for. Rocket and gun passes are conducted at a higher speed, and that makes you harder to hit, especially as you come out of the rocket/gun run and are turning away. The Mi-24 gets back to base for more ordnance and gets back on station faster if needed. --------------------------- Of course other helicopters can do a couple of these things just as well, or you could argue - even better. But in the totality of all things CAS, no other helicopter seems to wrap up a CAS scenario in DCS as quickly and efficiently as the Mi-24, except of course a pair of them. This is why the Mi-24 is used as a CAS platform in our squadron, and why we consider CAS to be a core mission of the airframe.
  23. We both went our own way it seems! https://github.com/Fargo007/TROOP-TRANSPORTS vidya: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BnJ_z7BlzM
  24. I doubt it in the ME, because the Mi-24 can't be assigned the CAP role. But you could probably do it with a script.
