The reddit link above says Oculus completely closes home 2.0 when a game runs in VR, so it should not impact DCS in VR right?

I received my Nvidia GTX 2080ti (preordered from Nvidia directly) yesterday. I will not do specific framerate tests, as others have done a good job on that. I will give my impression of the card here. My system: Oculus Rift, i7-8700K overclocked to 5.1GHz, 32gb ram, 960 Samsung SSD Bottom line: I was a bit disappointed that the performance increase was not as much as I hoped coming from my overclocked 1080ti, but there is good improvement and it is well worth buying in my view if you are a DCS nut like myself. I can't go max on settings, but I can add some like shadows and higher terrian textures while keeping the same or better smoothness, which makes it worthwhile my my view. More detail: The 3D Mark Time Spy benchmark improved from 10214 to 13582. The 1080ti was overclocked and with a cooler, but I can't seem to overclock the RTX without the driver or program crashing. Under the 1080ti, I ran VR pd 1.2, MSAAx2, AAx16 and both textures on low, view distance high, no shadows, trees 80%, clutter about half. I like very big missions (700 plus objects) and these settings would keep the frame rates at 45 usually with some drops in 30s on high object areas. With the 2080ti, I tried much higher settings with PD 1.8 and high on others and had poor framerates, dropping to 30s alot. I was hoping for better. I have settled on my old settings (including MSAA x2, AAx16) except I can now raise textures (both) to high, add shadows, high heat blur, trees to 90, clutter higher. But I am still running 1.2 VR pd. With these settings, it has never dipped below 45 even in big missions and is very smooth. So it is well worth the money for me, but still not what I would have thought. I have noticed the biggest improvement on the PG map. I can fly through downtown now with completely smooth frames (45) were it would drop before. Over the desert, its 90. I never saw 90 with my prior card and settings above.

Thanks, these are very helpful!

Bankler, Look at the also excellent mission below from zagizoe, he sets up cockpit conditions at the start of the mission: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3301368/

I just did a few traps, and I have to say this is excellent! Great job! I love the debrief after you land. The only improvement I would suggest is adding voice overs so you don't have to read the text as you are flying. Really nice.

The S-3 and C-130 tankers do not have lights on the basket. Do you have to use NVG to refuel at night or is there some external lights I don't know about? thanks

I have played this mission several times, and each time I have time to come straight in and drop all the bombs on one pass and take out a bunch of the helos. Then I deal with the Migs with the help of my wingman. I usually get one or two and bug out very low on full burner and drag them to the F14s offshore.

I tested this and detection and fire without AWACS in the program is about 16nm. With AWACS detection is much further and fires at 23nm. I tested against ships. With 6 silkworms... - The FFG (Oliver Perry) always gets sunk (maybe it hits 1 or 2 of them). The sinking animation is good though. Initial hits, fire and a couple minutes later a big explosion and the stern starts sinking. - The Normandy always blows them up, usually with good distance to spare. - The Stennis maybe gets one. 6 only damage, 12 sinks it. Good animation on the hits, with holes blown in the side of the carrier so you can see the hanger deck exposed. Overall, other then much shorter range than what the internet says it should be, they are very effective.

Not fixed, just tried it.

I played them all. Funny about the second mission studdering, I had the same thing, rest were smooth. I have some big missions I made myself (700 plus objects with scripts) that didn't studder like that. odd, since it was not that big. The missions were okay, simple. ED should consider outsourcing this to talented community members like SEDLO and others that have made great missions with complexity (timing, necessary tanker hits, airfield/carrier pattern requirements etc) and ED focus on product development.

You went into the axis controls and made sure the rudders was only rudders and brakes and joystick and throttle only for their roles? When the settings are erased I know they are reset with my rudders having throttle commands and throttle has rudders etc. But that is only if controls are deleted and started from scratch. I have the same controls as you.

Hornet Case-I Difficulty With Current Ships' Wake Issues
wrl11 replied to Fropa's topic in General Bugs
I can still use the wake as a reference, I can see the vector that the wake and carrier have and when I cross that where I should be roughly in altitude and aspect. A longer one would be nice, but as a VR player these wakes are much much better then the flashing white lines we had before. -
Radar on F18 works good on my initial test. CBUs still ineffective.

Another thread suggested changing the prerendered frames to 4 to make it smoother (NOT the VR prerendered setting). I use VR and this change made it much smoother. There has been no control input lag either.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?
wrl11 replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I just got an email saying my 2080ti preorder from nvidia is delayed with no new shipping date :-(. I was going to find a stock mission (like one of instant actions) and run it with my current 1080ti at full detail (I run VR) and look at the framerate, then duplicate it after I put in the 2080ti to compare. But that will be somewhat subjective. Is there a way to test it in DCS VR with harder data output that I could share? I want to know before I get the card so I can do it with the 1080ti before I take it out, thanks. -
+1 for being able to run instead of walk after ejecting. If I get shot down near the ground action I like going to a spot to see it and watch for a while, walking takes a long time.

There does not seem to be the option to make HI only when carrying the AIM-7, only the 120, am I doing something wrong?

The Hornets' Nest - F/A-18C campaign
wrl11 replied to bovsam's topic in User Created Missions General
I had the same thing happen. Maybe the trigger should be NO EVENT instead of ON DESTROY? **Edit: I just tested it using NO EVENT on the triggers and it worked for me now FYI. Thanks for these missions! -
Today's hotfix worked for me. No issues with menu, VR ASW fixed, map good, bow waves not fixed (at least at higher speeds).
-
I still have the issue as well, but turning MSAA off makes it playable, much less double vision.
-
dburne, do you have MSAA turned off? I noticed that the double vision thing is much reduced when MSAA is off. It seems to be the only option setting that can reduce it. Even putting every to low but having MSAA on makes bad double vision. But I can turn everything to high and MSAA off (even 14x AA) and its much more playable.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
wrl11 replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
If you didn't use ASW, then you are happy with the update it seems. But I need ASW, I get nauseous with the double vision, motion blur thing that ASW stops. -
I just get a grey box in front of me when I try to do this. I see the Steam VR home, but when DCS loads, just a grey box. What am I doing wrong? thanks.
-
I am still getting the blur after rebooting and using the Oculus tool tray.

I am getting all the rift problems too. I wonder if my game crashing on exit is rift related.
