Hey guys, sorry for my late respond, but lately I’ve been very busy, and honestly using my free time on BS/FC2 MP. :D Thanks for nice comments regarding the Georgian Havoc campaign. I’m glad you like it. Since I’ll have a bit more relaxed schedule, I will try to put some efforts and finally release v1.1. Yet, I’m not brave enough to announce a date. ;) In the fourth mission, friendly fighters are triggered when (guess what) Hinds are destroyed. I just wanted to live you on fire on your own. There were many complaints about this mission, and that is the reason for making it a bit more easier, so after the modification I think everything is OK. Pyro1588, thanks for your offer for doing the grammar. That is very generous of you, but this job is already done by military-aviation-experienced-native-English-speaking-person, so corrected briefings will be present in v1.1 Regarding the missing voice-overs, it has been reported before, but so far I don’t have explanation for that problem. It could be codecs issue. About the mission 6, try to employ different tactics. And just a brief tip – it is not essential that all your ground units survive the first attack. S!

Thanks for the quick response Miguez!!! You know, all the things I suggested, like implementing METAR and things like that, still have to be carefully taken. DCS community is proven to be willing to learn new things, it is not like bunch of people who just want to jump in cockpit and “try” to fly. Still some things (like learning METAR) could overload them and cause the opposite effect. So once again, these were just suggestions, maybe you should investigate how high level of realism does the community want in the briefings and other stuff. And in the previous post I forgot to praise the LET team for the cover documentation (maps, diagrams, user guide, miz file…). Really more than expected! You must have spent very large amount of work and time on this project...

First of all, I want to say “Job well done” for the LET team. Honestly, much better than I expected. Very nice methodological approach, expert video editing, everything is nice and clear for the first lesson. Just couple of things I could suggest for the next lessons regarding the Weather Briefing: -In pdf document with lesson description there is short weather info. There you can see Wind: 1m/s. I would suggest adding direction (in the video you did that, so you say Wind 1m/s from 074 I think). Knowing the direction of the wind is very important for aviation. On the other hand, 1m/s is less than 2kts, and in aviation wind that is lighter than 2kts is considered as “calm”, so in this case you can just say “Wind calm”. -Also in the same document it says cloud coverage is 3/8, and on the video is it Sky Clear, but this is not a big deal. :D -Regarding the visibility (it says “Unlimited”), maybe it is different in different countries, or there could be difference between FAA and ICAO, but usually for unlimited visibility there is mark 9999 or “ten kilometers”. -Also what I would like to suggest for the future lessons is to integrate METAR weather briefing. It is used by pilots world wide, it is not hard to learn, it is simple, and I think it would add much for the immersion (you know, being able to understand a bunch of numbers and letters would make people feel like real pilot). Oh, and I almost forgot in lesson summary, you say “We learned that we control our helicopter with the Cyclic and the Collective. Don’t forget about Rudder Pedals! Verrrrryyyy important for helicopter pilots. ;) Again, congratulations on the beginning of great lessons serial. Thanks LET!

MemphisBelle, you are right, it is just my guess based on frequent appearances of Ka-50s on LOFC2 servers. That is why I am assuming that it is close to release since they are making such public showings. I could be wrong though...
-
The patch is obviously close to release… … and 104th LOFC2 server has become a dangerous place to swim. Many Sharks are reported lately. :D Here is my close encounter with The Shark.
-
Congrats miguez!!! I wish you a successful training videos series! Actually I wish us that.
-
You can find it in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\Doc That is supposing you have FC2 on your PC.
-
Great News!!!
-
Actually I have similar, but even bigger problem. Precisely on 104th server, Operation Liberty (which is a great server BTW) I have often game crashes. I was unsure what is happening, but it was just yesterday I discovered that EVERY time one group of targets is destroyed, and that triggers another (large) group to spawn, my FC2 crashes. In the moment that last vehicle of a group is killed, I get message on the screen that another group is spotted, and next second – CRASH. Any ideas what’s wrong? S!

Well, at the beginning I’ve noticed that there is some difference in the coordinate systems between ME and “in game”. So, logically I choose to take “in game” system for reference, not taking in count ellipsoid at all. Then, when I finished Geodetic grid, I went in ABRIS setup menu, to see if it is possible to change Geodetic format to MGRS or UTM so I can make MGRS grid more easily. Of course, there was no such option, but I was shocked to see that in the setup menu you can choose between Krassnovsky and WGS-84 ellipsoid. WGS-84 is a standard for western world, and certainly for future DCS A-10C, and all my work till then was based on Krassnovsky ellipsoid which is referenced to Pulkovo System of 1942 Datum. Before killing myself, I’ve decided to check for differences between those two ellipsoids and luckily discovered that there is almost no difference with latitude, and there is average of 0.11 minutes difference with longitude. For that part of the world, 0.11 minutes is approximately 150 meters, and 150m on 1:500000 scale map is 0.3mm, so… acceptable I think. After all, the purpose of this map is not to program cruise missiles for pin-point strikes. ;) -

Hi manfrez01, If I understood you correctly, putting those two (the second one is MEF Grid) outside of the map area would mean that I would have to enlarge the blank white frame around the map. That would mean larger dimensions of an already large map. Don’t worry about problems with reading, because opacity of the data below those two (table & grid) is reduced. On the other hand, I’m 100% sure that you will never be in a need to locate anything in that sector, since it is quite far in the open sea. ;) S! -
Why no Night Vision? NV Discussion.

Despite NVG being let’s say “stand alone” system, it is not that simple. If you want to use NVG for flying, your cockpit must be NVG compatible, as MBot said. The problem with the usage of NVG with cockpit whose illumination is not NVG compatible would be something like this: Even if you dim down the cockpit illumination to the lowest level (we are talking about non-compatible illumination), still it would cause so much saturation of your NVGs so you will not be able to see much on the outside. On the other hand, turning cockpit illumination completely off is not the solution, because then you are not able to see your instruments. Despite the NVGs have zoom level x1, their focus is in the infinity and everything that is close to you (like everything in the cockpit) is seriously out of focus. So it looks something like this: Flying with NVG means looking outside with the googles, but when you want to check your instruments, you have to look below the NVGs, with naked eye. So in order to be able to read your instruments, you must have NVG friendly cockpit illumination that is achieved by putting different lights and filters in the cockpit. Generally speaking, when you see a cockpit with red illumination – it is not NVG compatible. -

Uh, yes. Honestly it took much more time than I expected. :) Here are few screens of the final version: -
Quote from the same simhq article: “But wait: there's more. How would you like to see an AI tactical ground controller that will mark targets for you with smoke and give you a full 9-line brief?” ...So it is AI. Yes Feuerfalke, I DID use search-function! Still didn’t find anything similar to my wish. ;) And again: So I apologize if I missed something. :)
-
Player Controlled FAC I was searching the forum, and I didn’t find anything similar, but if I’m wrong I apologize for repeating a wish. I was thinking it would be very nice to have (in MP) a new Ground Unit type – “FAC” which can be set to “Client”. That way you can embed player controllable FAC with friendly ground units or you can just set it on a hill near enemy troops. Some servers/squadrons employ real life tactics, so it could be very useful and fun having human controlled FAC. No need of new modeling. Model (method of movement) of the ejected pilot can be used here. So, nothing fancy. The only thing should be added is mouse/hat control of the FAC’s view. Although it would be necessary to have a hotkey which toggles binoculars. If those binoculars have geographic coordinates display, compass and range finder, it would be even better! This would all be especially useful with DCS A-10C. Many of you will say “Yes, but who will give up flying to be FAC?” Personally many times I find it very interesting to scroll the free camera in the ground combat area and just watch strikers attacking enemy armor. It is more fun than you can imagine. Am I talking about TBS here?
-
I agree!! A-G is much more popular with FC2 I think, and often all striker slots are occupied when you enter the mission.

Hi all, I can finally announce that the TC-1 map is finished, and sent to ED for check. :D Here is the list of changes made since the last update I’ve released: - Both Geo and MGRS grids were slightly corrected, - The map now have close to 100 mountain peaks, - All the TV, Radio and Comms Towers I could find are includes, Oil Platforms too, - Morse codes of the NDBs are added, - Separate Maximum Elevation Figures (MEF) grid is added, - Some extra features are added in the legend, - Front cover for the folded map is made, - Some small corrections of colors and thickness of lines are made. Now I’m waiting for the response by ED and then I will make all suggested changes (if any). After that, according to ED the printed map will probably be available within 4 weeks, but please wait until an announcement from JimMack on availability, pricing, and advice on laminating. S! -

zdXu, Yes, you can do it like that too, but please give me exact positions of let’s say 3 peaks in mountainous area 5x5km of your choice. I think it is too complicated, and don’t let me talk about the whole map area of 650x450km. Zoom in, in, in, in, move the cursor left/right, right mouse click, move the cursor up/down, so you find a peak. But is it there, or between the steps of the cursor. Is the peak’s elevation 1739m or maybe a bit more between steps of the cursor, who can tell… Then let’s zoom more in to the max zoom and move the cursor left/right then up/down. Too complicated. You can do the same in map view (F10) and find the peak with mouse cursor, but again very complicated and time consuming. I prefer using free camera (LeftCtrl+F11) and then I can visually identify peaks, “fly” to them “land” the camera on the peak and read the altitude. Then find visually and “fly” to another. I understand your issues with the scale of the map (by the way 1cm is 5km) and the absence of houses in the cities, but this was not the purpose of the map. For such detailed planning you would use 1:25000 (or maybe 1:50000) scale, and huh! If somebody make 1:25000 scale map of the whole area, when printed it would be ~25x20m. The purpose of the map is for rough planning. You read your briefing and mark the front line, friendly’s positions and your targets area. I think it would drastically increase situational awareness. Then use your ABRIS for precise targets positions. And the main purpose of the map is to coordinate DCS aircraft with FC2 aircraft and FC2 aircraft with FC2 aircraft in multiplayer when F10 map is disabled. -
Well done IvanK!

So far (you can see it on the page 1 of the thread) I used both (metric/imperial). Anyway this is present only on mountain peaks and airport elevations, so I think it is not overloading the map in any way. It is still not to late to change it, but have in mind that in LOFC2 we have aircraft using metric and others imperial system. It will be the same with DCS Ka-50 and A-10C (I suppose). I know that it is easy to convert the units from one to another, but sometimes 5+7 is difficult to calculate when you are airborne and dealing with threats, navigation and aircraft systems. So, do you want it that way (both), or would you prefer only metric (or imperial)?
