  1. I read of b-17 kills vs losses quite some time ago . I'll try to find the reference . While interception of a heavy bomber stream was easy , and the resulting opportunity for escorts to engage high , imagine how difficult it would be to intercept small units moving very low and fast , thus providing little chance for escorts to engage . I take your point regarding the 4000 lb bomb , but that bomb would be of limited use generally . And , again , the comparison is the max bombload of the Mossie vs the average bombload for a B-17 . The 500 pound bomb had much more general use-at least among the Allies .
  2. Low-level WW2 airfield attacks were famously costly , being very heavily defended . Further , the simple tactic of using dispersal airfields would render such attacks less effective .
  3. Two thoughts occur....I think you may have overstated the relative bombloads of the Mosquito vs the B-17 . The former's small bomb bay meant it could only carry 4 (modified) 500 lb bombs . The B-17's average 500 lb bombload was 8 , and it could carry much more . More to the point of such a thoughtful post , i surmise that a "fast bomber" campaign would have proven a negative for a secondary (but very important) purpose of the bombing campaign-clearing the skies of the Luftwaffe over Europe prior to D-day . The more dispersed operations , the lack of defensive armaments of the fast bomber (3 german fighters were shot down by gunners for every B-17 lost to air attack) , effects on escort fighters and the difference in political and other pressures resulting from attacks on military targets vs cities would all seem to point to a less-effective campaign to destroy the Luftwaffe .

  5. You are powerless to resist...embrace the chaos
  6. Same here . The parent company has never been trustworthy .
  7. As promised , i note that the T50 CM2 stick and WarBrD base i ordered 12 June (local) shipped and charged on 08 July (local) . Scheduled delivery to Ar , US via FedEx Express is 11 July (!) .
  8. I hesitated to post this suggestion before , but the Op's later posts suggest making it nonetheless . Why not add an upgraded gpu and a SATA ssd to the existing pc , along with perhaps a 1440p monitor ? Substantially lower cost , minimal software issues , and all those items could be transferred to a new prebuilt in the unlikely event you are still unsatisfied .
  9. Below are ED'S hardware recommendations for various graphics levels . https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/stable/ Rtx 3050 or (better) 3060 , or AMD rx6600 xt for monitor . Minimum rtx 3070 or rx 6800 for VR . The general rule for VR is to buy the best gpu you can't really afford !
  10. Yeah , gpu should be next on the upgrade list .
  11. No , you did not waste your money...ED will soon take advantage of 8-core cpu's . As to upgrades , as LucShep pointed out , we need more info . But it is very easy to get caught up in the upgrade or settings vortexes , and lose sight of Why we're doing all this . Perhaps it is time to forgo all that for a while and spend more time flying ?
  12. B&H Photo has replaced NewEgg for me .
  13. This might be the better option for jets . I use it for both single and twin engine jets . It has a mini-stick for target designation , 3 pushbuttons on the front (i use them for flaps) and 4 hat switches on the grip . Less expensive too . https://www.chproducts.com/Pro-Throttle-v13-d-719.html
  14. WW2 throttles , being for prop planes , require at least 3 axes for each engine ( throttle , prop , mixture ) . Modern jets generally need only 1 axis per engine , but more switches on the grip , and a mini-stick for target designation , assuming you don't have a ministick on your stick grip . If you plan to fly in VR , the need for grip switches is even greater to avoid using keyboard commands , although this can be alleviated using voice commands .
  15. I use deskmounts , so i ordered the taller Mongoose as the extra height gives a little finer control .
  16. Perhaps with an Nvidea card... but i can run motion smoothing with an AMD card seamlessly(I don't even know it's on without checking FpsVR) and without artifacts . Can't say the same for motion reprojection .
  17. Same here . Very happy with my performance and motion smoothing , which i understand is not available in OpenXR .
  18. As i understand it , Amd 6000 gpu drivers are not yet optimised for motion reprojection . I use motion smoothing in Svr instead , and this is one of the reasons i have not yet installed OpenXR . I'm also one of the lucky ones who don't see the 60 hz flicker , so the only time motion smoothing kicks in is on airfields/supercarrier .
  19. Welcome , will do .
  20. 5-6 days , and they do not charge your card until shipped .
  21. My understanding is that Virpil ships from Lithuania , so no problem there . As to times , it is entirely dependent on stock status when you order . I have a stick and base on order , and have yet to see a shipping notification . I expect to see the unit 6 days (US) after notice , provided it does not get delayed in customs...
  22. I thought that joke was reserved for sticks
  23. RW Navy pilots "walk" the throttles for finer control during carrier landings . That technique might be useful during air refueling as well...
  24. Interesting...thanks !
  25. Thanks !
