That's not true - you can drop laser guided bombs in the Mirage and F-5 and neither of those have a tpod with LST. As long as the bomb is aimed in the rough area, it'll pick up the laser energy. There are also JTACs and drones that can laze for you - most MP servers use one or the other.

Has a release date for MAC been announced
backspace340 replied to Akula's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Can't believe that's being quibbled, but google 'Autumn dates' and it'll say it ends on Dec 21st / 22nd depending on where you are in the world (for me it says 22nd as I'm UTC+8, if I say I'm in UTC+0 it says 21st). They were a day early with the Hornet, so exact definitions of when Autumn ends probably won't matter in the end. -
[REPORTED] IFF on a friendly changed to hostile
backspace340 replied to backspace340's topic in Bugs and Problems
With what we have implemented, it shouldn't be designating a friendly as hostile - hence the bug report. -
[REPORTED] IFF on a friendly changed to hostile
backspace340 replied to backspace340's topic in Bugs and Problems
You aren't describing the system we have implemented in the DCS Hornet. And in the real Hornet, square means unknown/ambiguous. Diamond means hostile. Friendly is a square with 'FRIEND' written on top. ED have only given us unknown and hostile symbologies. In the DCS Hornet we don't really have proper IFF, there are no codes and it's not working like a real IFF - it's just telling us when something is hostile (which is unrealistic, but even then it should be consistent). -
UH60 Blackhawk Modern Day Utility Helicopter
backspace340 replied to Kev2go's topic in DCS Core Wish List
An SH-60B Seahawk would be an interesting alternative - it would fit nicely with the Hornet and Stennis (and F-14/A-6 from Heatblur). It would also offer some extra capabilities over the UH-60A/L (FLIR, Radar, Hellfires, Torpedoes, Anti-Ship Missiles). There's a NATOPS from 2008 available as well: https://publicintelligence.net/u-s-navy-natops-sh-60b-seahawk-helicopter-flight-manual/ -
[REPORTED] IFF on a friendly changed to hostile
backspace340 replied to backspace340's topic in Bugs and Problems
Technically I think square is bogey/ambiguous/unknown and we're missing the 'friendly' symbology (which is a square with FRIEND on top apparently), but diamond is definitely hostile. -
I've heard of this happening frequently in MP, but this is the first time I've been able to capture it in SP on an easy to view track. As you can see on the attached, I lock up a friendly F-15E and fire some missiles at it. The initial lock up is a correct friendly/ambiguous square. However, the IFF designation switches to a hostile diamond about half-way into the track. 50nmAIM7.trk

Should do - I believe we'll also have the ability to look at a spot with the JHMCS and designate that as our target (the equivalent of SPI on the A-10C).

Feels like I might have to post this every other page, but as I mentioned a couple of pages ago you can now get a proper kit with the lenses included from here: https://widmovr.com/product/odyssey-prescription-lens-adapters/ I've put my order in, will report back once I've got them.
-
Yeah not sure - I'm off to get my eyes tested this weekend so I can order one myself. I've been going glasses free in the headset as my prescription isn't too strong, but stuff is definitely a little fuzzier than it was in the PSVR (which I could easily fit glasses in) so I'm looking forward to seeing clearly again!
-
Go back one page - Widmovr are now making custom lenses for the Odyssey which I linked, that's how this discussion started!
-
They have a big reveal on the 7th October - it's not clear if that will be the announcement of pre-order/release date.
-
That's exactly what they've done - you can see it in this video where they're recording lines for the AI. The voice for Jester is sat in the rear seat in multiplayer working the radar, TCS and firing missiles. Your wish will come true as soon as it's released.

What will it mean changes in Radar on FC3?
backspace340 replied to falcon_120's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Did he ever actually say FC3? In the newsletter they said 'other modules'. And in the Hornet mini-update he said 'other aircraft'. Unless there's somewhere else it was mentioned and they said FC3, I think people are reading too much into this - those 'other aircraft' are probably the F-16C and F-4. -
That's so true, which is why aircraft development stalled with the F5 - because who needs a radar that can hold lock through BVR manoeuvres, or the ability to IFF more than one thing at a time, or the ability to soft-lock a target so you don't announce your intentions from 50 miles away. Anyone bothering to pick an F-15 over the F-5 just isn't a good enough pilot obviously.

New pc build - DCS VR only
backspace340 replied to sirrah's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
All looks fine to be honest - the only part you might want to consider spending a bit more on would be the SSD - possibly look into an NVMe M.2 drive instead of a SATA SSD M.2, the quicker you can get your SSD the better for DCS. That'd add another 50 EUR or so - https://www.amazon.de/Samsung-MZ-V7E500BW-970-Interne-500GB/dp/B07CGGP7SV -
[FIXED IN OPEN BETA] AIM 120 and ACM mode
backspace340 replied to Shibbyland's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Are you on stable or open beta? Pretty sure this was fixed recently in Open Beta - or is it broken again? -
For me it's both I care about - if I want a great BVR fighter I can fly the Mirage/F-15/Su-27, if I want a great SEAD platform I can fly the Su25, if I want a great ground pounder I can fly the A-10C or the AV-8B. The whole point of the Hornet is that you don't have to choose which aircraft to fly, you just need the Hornet - it's a jack of all trades. It's why I think they should get the AA stuff to a level where it's competitive against A2A threats before adding more AG options - that then gives the Hornet a reason to be the A2G platform of choice, especially when travelling into enemy territory with patrolling air defence fighters. I don't think we need everything either - having LTWS would probably get us on par with the Mirage and having MIDS/Link-16 would give the Hornet unparalleled situational awareness (and would help a great deal with plotting a safe course for an AG mission in enemy territory).
-
I'm hoping they'll make it visible in both eyes (blended like the HUD), the KA-50 has a monocle over one eye and it can be tricky to focus on in VR. I'm not sure how easy it'll be to read anything if it's only displayed in one eye and not the other.

[FIXED INTERNALLY] 2.5.3.21444 Mouse cursor graphical glitch
backspace340 replied to backspace340's topic in VR Bugs
I'm guessing not - mine still looked the same after updating. -
I assume you're playing on stable, just wait until you get the version the open beta is running - it's not functional or kinda working at all. Even on stable you can drop a lock with anything but the most gentle roll - f-pole/cranking requires flying like an octogenarian.

Has a release date for MAC been announced
backspace340 replied to Akula's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
They said Autumn, so it's either November 30th if they're using the Russian seasons (like they did with the Hornet) or December 22nd if they're using western seasons. -
It's fixed internally so hopefully we'll get it in the next patch: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=220158&page=2

In case anyone else has been looking out for this option like I have, you can now buy prescription lens inserts for the Samsung Odyssey: https://widmovr.com/product/odyssey-prescription-lens-adapters/

The Huey is far, far easier to land if you fly a (for lack of a better term) walking stick approach. Basically pick a point on the ground, come in fairly low, and fly around the back of the point, basically following a route that looks like this: It also works really well on the Mi-8 - that kind of approach avoids all the danger areas of VRS that you would normally encounter on a straight-in approach. You can also have a fair bit of fun seeing how aggressively you can throw it into the turn/stop without crashing.
