The KA-50 teaches you how to fly an autopilot, the Huey teaches you how to fly a helicopter.

I think a middle road between pure AA and pure AG is probably better to be honest. I don't want to have to wait for them to finish the sea mines before I get LTWS, and equally I don't want to have to wait for AZ/EL before I get HARMs. There's definitely a core set of features I'd like focused on before they start filling everything else in, but everyone has different opinions on what those are (and I expect mine wouldn't exactly match many others). I wouldn't bother trying to judge what you think is the most sensible to come next. We aren't aware of how ED's team is set up, what's already in progress and what represents low-hanging fruit / easy pickings, and what represents the enormous coding jobs that fundamentally alter the game. There are probably lots of considerations that go into what they're working on day to day - some of which might just be what Wags finds frikking cool.

I use the Odyssey without that issue and I believe NineLine does too - so it *can* work, though I've got no idea how/why my setup is different from yours. I did nothing special with mine, just the basic set up.

The HUD is projected in both eyes now and you don't get double-sight, even though different images are projected in each eye. Close one eye and then the other and you'll see each eye is only seeing just over half the HUD, but they blend together when both eyes are open so you don't notice. I'm hoping it'll be in both eyes - the only thing I can base my experience on is the HMS in the KA-50 which I find a bit odd to use/focus on in VR as it's on just one eye, though that might be because it's not focused at infinity like a HUD would be.

Yeah I believe it does - you should be able to look at a spot on the ground and make that your TGT and I assume slew the ATFLIR to that spot (or have it slaved already). The most exciting stuff for me is the MIDS / datalink stuff beamscanner mentioned, being able to see where wingmen/friendlies/targets are around you in 3D space will be incredibly useful - no one will ever need labels again once we've got that!
-
That sounds like a reason for them not to do it - you wouldn't have bought the modules by the sounds of it!

The range cues on the Mirage seem inaccurate - at 60kft going M2.0 with enemy closing at the same height/speed, the Mirage puts Rmax with the 530D at 20nm, whereas it's easy to get a kill at nearly 40nm with it (and the missile still has plenty of energy when it hits). On the deck at M0.9 it puts Rmax at 7.5nm but the AIM-7 in the Hornet will say it's in range at 15nm. The Mirage definitely seems to take a different approach to Rmax/Rne (or it's just plain wrong) - though that helps increase your chances of killing with the missile because if you stick to the Rmax/Rne cues, then you've got a lot more energy with the 530D when it reaches the enemy than you do with the AIM-7 or 120.

T.16000 not able to select TDC movement with axis?
backspace340 replied to D4n's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Yes I've got it set as the TDC. You're probably looking at the wrong control - it should say 'Throttle designator controller' in axis controls - the one that says TDC is for a mouse I believe. -
Nothing wrong with it, just a bit harder - I find it easier to use the benefit of ground effect by coming in low and it's easier/quicker to slow down with a turn than coming straight in and risking either bashing your tail, taking too long or gaining unwanted altitude. I primarily sling in the Huey in MP, so I'm mainly interested in getting the job done as quickly as possible!
-
It's your ghost velocity vector - when the HUD is caged the velocity vector is centred, the ghost velocity vector shows your true direction of travel.
-
The axis is designed to be used a slider type axis - so you could map it to the wheel on the far left of the throttle, or the slider on the base of the stick. Different aircraft have different types of controls for elevation, what you're after here is available on the Hornet (but conversely in the Hornet you can't get the slider-type control that everyone else wants!).

It's probably going to be the distance ones, but I'm not sure at what distance you flip between prescriptions. You can always try it out by attempting to wear your glasses in the headset and seeing which one feels better, depending on the headset you can get away with wearing them for a period of time (just be careful of scratching the lenses). One thing to remember though is that although the screens inside the headset are only an inch or so in front of your face, because of the way the (default non-prescription) lenses work everything is displayed at the correct distance in front of you, so you aren't looking at the screen 1 inch in front of you, you're looking at the cockpit 2 feet in front of you, or your wingman taxiing 50ft in front of you, or the enemy aircraft 1000ft in front of you.

[FIXED INTERNALLY] 2.5.3.21444 Mouse cursor graphical glitch
backspace340 replied to backspace340's topic in VR Bugs
Same for me - still no change. -
TWS and LTWS are different things - they've not given us any indication that TWS is being worked on or whether it's coming anytime soon.

Sensor Control Switch not working for MPCD
backspace340 replied to fitness88's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
It doesn't do anything on the HSI yet - it's only functional on the Attack Radar page (and allows you to move the TDC). I can't remember if you can put the radar on the MPCD? If you can't that might be why it's not working. -
Base Recovery Course - it's essentially the bearing the carrier is heading (though it's wrong in the first mini campaign mission).

What new feature of the Hornet are you most looking forward to?
backspace340 replied to Wags's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
For those struggling with AAR, the best tip I have is to stop trying to AAR and just practise formation flying - just jump on the aerobatics server and follow the KC130 around and try and stay as close as you can and as 'still' as you can for as long as you can. That'll teach you the throttle movements to stay in the box for AAR - once you're comfortable you should be able to plug in, push forward a little and stay there till you're topped off. I used to hate AAR until I did this. -
Sensor Control Switch not working for MPCD

The switch is mapped, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get into vertical scan ACM mode. -
(DDCS)Dynamic DCS, True Unpredictable Perpetual War
backspace340 replied to Drexx's topic in Multiplayer
The TF-51 can carry an internal crate and a rifle troop, so it can be used to either repair a destroyed Command Center, create a JTAC, or use the JTAC or rifle troop to capture an enemy base that's been cleared of enemy units. It is being used as a substitute for something like a C-130. -

It's a lot easier to approach the landing by taking a curved approach - pick a spot on the ground and then basically fly in behind it and use the final turn to slow you down. It's also great fun to practice. Looks a bit like this: https://clips.twitch.tv/SwissFunWombatPMSTwin / https://clips.twitch.tv/NurturingInquisitiveWoodpeckerMrDestructoid If you try and fly a straight-in approach you run the risk of entering VRS as the wash is directly underneath you.

No it's not possible, ED are modelling a US Navy Hornet and US Navy Hornets don't use Litening pods.

You can view the poll at the top of the forum to see what people valued more: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=219023&page=28 This conversation has been done to death - ED are working on it. We're unlikely to get TWS first anyway, the Hornet will be able to IFF by soft-locking once it gets Latent Track While Scan (LTWS) which is a sub-mode of RWS. LTWS has been on the priority list basically since release.

I'm not sure why you've fiddled with the in-game IPD setting, that's just for world scale which should have been fine by default on the main headsets (and you definitely aren't required to match headset IPD with the in-game IPD). It's the headset IPD that will change how cross-eyed you are. I'd suggest putting the in-game IPD back to the default setting and then just adjusting the headset IPD to a level where you are comfortable.

It's probably harder than it seems as they need to implement a way to change the laser code, which I imagine they'll want to allow through the DDI's (like the Harrier) rather than the kneeboard.
