  1. Basically any USN/USMC F/A-18 pilot will go from a Cessna 172 or a Piper through a civi flight school at the beginning of their time at Naval Aviation Schools Command, or on their own, previous to the Navy. After that they'll go into a T-6 Texan II for a few months, then if they get selected for Jets, they'll fly the T-45 Goshawk for they carrier qualification and basic stuff, then if they get Hornets they will get sent to the RAG to learn theyre airframe, in this case, the Hornet. So they really aren't going into an 'advanced' trainer, its basic stuff in the T-45, then BAM, hornet. I could be mistaken on a couple points here since I wasn't in the pilot pipeline, rather the NFO pipeline.
  2. Nah, in any high performance aircraft exygen shall be worn at all times. Whether pilots actually follow the regs is a different story.
  3. In any “high performance” military aircraft O2 mask is to be worn at all times In regards to the perpose of presurizstion of the cockpit, below curtain barometric pressures your body processies the available oxygen differently. So if you didn’t have your mask on and lost pressure suddenly, you’d pass out pretty quickly. With the mask you’d be ‘fine’ below crazy high altitudes. And the cockpit itself isn’t receiving the oxygen, your mask is. Pet peeve, In the movies you often see pilots take their mask off and gasp for air like they aren’t getting enough oxygen...totally BS, you never even need to take a deep breath when on O2, you’re never breathing easier. Try Scuba diving sometime.
  4. I only see the command for the trim which just holds the stick where you hadn’t it, is there another way? Yeah I see the option you speak of. Anyone adjust the axis turning at all?
  5. Hey i'm wondering what settings people use to make hovering a bit more intuitive. I know it needs constant stick input, but on a desktop X55 its just very awkward. Thanks
  6. I’ve got a feeling like it’ll happen eventually.
  7. When you’re building a mission, place whatever planes you want people to be able to fly FC3/HF in the parking spots or in air starts and just select ‘client’ in the pilot skill box. You can test this out when you test the mission in the ME, you’ll be prompted to select a slot for whatever sides yov e got active.
  8. Is there a way to change my forum username to match the username i use in game?
  9. Love this server, just need to learn how to use it better haha
  10. Anyone who has DCS will see everything, with the exception of the WWII asset pack i believe. Look at all the servers in MP, theyve all got a mix of FC3 and HF planes.
  11. neither that hook nor the Tiger is designed for carrier landings...in real life it would tear the plane apart.
  12. The Stennis is 127.5.
  13. Also, don’t taxi at more than 70% power.
  14. The default key blind is T I believe. Def comes in handy for cruising. Keeps your speed from getting away from you.
  15. Having functional elevators for the actual players makes zero sense. The pilot gets into the aircraft on the deck, not down below.
  16. Well, you've got the APU running during start up, then the bleedair once the engines are running, so its likely that.
  17. I’ll need this info too fine my X55 pimento off crap haha
  18. I think the limit is just how much RAM and such would be required to load that amount of map.
  19. Wags has said we won't, its too far from Vegas and would require the map to just be too big.
  20. Yup, I could hear myself and was getting the light green light. I’ll be able to try again tomorrow morning and I’ll let you know if it works after a restart.
  21. Im having an issue with people being able to hear me, but I am not able to hear them, even though every volume knob in the hornet is turned all the way up. I've fiddled with which speakers the audio is going through and i'm still not hearing anyone. Anyone else have this issue? EDIT: I've got 1.5.2 and was on Buddyspike if that helps
  22. So when can we get these?
  23. So I was on Buddyspike with about 15 other people on Blue side and I couldn't hear anyone, but people could hear me. every volume knob in the plane was all the way up, I could see that people were talking on the SRS overlay. Is there something I may be missing? I fiddled with which speakers SRS was using but that didn't help either. Thanks Not sure if this is a hornet issue or SRS
  24. But what if there isn't a ''kneeboard'' folder there to begin with?
  25. Hornet kneeboard in Beta SO i've downloaded a couple handy checklists for the kneeboard, but there isn't a kneeboard folder in the OpenBeta folder in my SaveGames directory. Help?
