  1. I tested static objects, they are pretty strange: only a part of static objects are visible The buildings are visible, but oil rigs are not: Can see 2 targets on the X shape runway Cannot see a huge oil rig by the coast:
  2. Topgun 2 will be released this year. So stop crushing on f14!
  3. A6e could take YEARS to make. So just forget about it.
  4. It seems that the viggen doesnt like to be on runway in real world, maybe thats why devs are trying to keep it off-road. Sry, I just looked the title, and I thought you are sarcastic about this endless beta time. My bad.
  5. I think maybe the buildings are not individually calculated in the radar, the radar just calculate the general terrain? For example, the airport(not only the runway, but a part of the surrounding area) can be seen on the radar. Also large metal things can be seen, like bridges, trains, even electricity tower. Also, Ive heard that static objects(there is a category in the mission editor) cannot be seen on the radar, but I never tested it. The performance issue about the radar have already caused some complain, maybe devs simplify the calculation about radar system. I guess(just an assumption) the excellent exp radar image never calculates the radar return at all. They just use the actual image of the area where you look at, and do some blurring work. The blurring work is determined by your distance, your relative speed, etc. It looks very convincing after that, but there isnt any actual return pulse in it. It is an easy way to save calculation. But this theory is just my guess. If ajs37 calculate the actual return pulse to form the image, it is impossible to show every building. if you look at the general ground radar image on f18 (not exp), you will find it is even difficult to recognize the terrain by that
  6. Screen shot first, tacview: I am testing about the range of the harpoon, and I launched it 60nm away from the target. Launch with r/bl mode with HIGH profile. The missile went up to 65000ft! My launching altitude is 38000ft. From the manual, p.317 and p.318, it says the high altitude flight profile should be 35000ft, while this drunken fisherman above went to 65000ft! And here comes the even more funny thing: At the final approach, the missile strike straight down from above, with angle even larger than 90 degree: This flight profile looks like a loft profile, and I was using the HIGH profile launch option. Maybe it is a new feature? or maybe devs just mess them up? Any ideas?
  7. Nice, I guess we definitely need a commissar to GUIDE our discussion if the Party say so.
  8. how to turn a butterfly to a caterpillar?
  9. Of course I jettison the tank after it's empty. I checked the chart, maybe my problem is that the plane was too high. 9000m altitude is not on the chart at all. it seems that the best altitude is around 7000m.
  10. I don't think English cockpit is that needed at all. There aren't many buttons in the cockpit. (compare to mig21, f14 etc)And most of them are arranged in a reasonable way. The main mode selector has 5 useful modes, attack selector has 6 modes. the hard thing is the combination of these two, and that won't be easy even with the English cockpit. You still to remember or check the weapon chart. Dispenser and ecm pods selector are in abcdefg or 0123 anyway.
  11. I'm trying to test the max range of ajs37. Taking off from Novoroblabla airport, one of the most north west airport, gradually climbing up, flying to vaziani, reverse the direction and trying to fly as far as I can. Pay load: only central fuel tank. Altitude: 9000m Speed: 0.87mach(economic speed at this altitude, manual page 173) Never use afterburner, even during the take off. When the fuel completely ran out: the range at this point: 1900km( the plane glided about 100km after that) So here is what I get: 1900km(with fuel tank), which is 200km shorter from the manual number(page 19) Actually 1900km is the range when the fuel is completely dry: that means no reserved fuel for landing. If 10% fuel, a reasonable amount of fuel for landing is accounted in, the range should be around 1650km. I think it is quite impossible to achieve the max range of 2100km, unless the plane is magically spawned in high altitude, perfectly keeps economic speed, makes no turn at all, and doesnt land at the end. That's the only way to reach the max range of 2100km.
  12. The radar is a little bit useless in ground atk if you use it in a normal way. Tank size units are pretty hard to identify if the range is more than 15km. Using the LINEAR radar mode can significantly increase the efficiency to identify the target. Choose linear mode, and adjust the gain, radar can pick up target as far as 30km, which is long enough for player to do the radar fix, weapon setting, etc. I put a sa2 sam site and 3 tanks at the testing range: And here is the radar image on log mode(the default mode) at 30km: the X runway is really blurred, and the targets are invisible. Here is the image of linear radar mode at the same situation: ppi scope and b scope sa sam site(a group of target) can be clearly identified choose the linear radar mode, and then adjust the gain(this is important), usuallyadjust downwards, until the land is a little bit faint(like this above). Regular size target will appear around 30 km. Then, just radar fix the target and atk.(usually with bk90) However, bridges and trains will also be shown on the image, dont mix them with the target. (need to know the surrounding terrain and keep them in mind) Through this way, the radar can be useful to do ground atk on a foggy day, rather than a simple navigation radar.
  13. I tested harpoon range with three different height profile, it seems that the range of the harpoon is not related to the cruising altitude and air resistance, but rather than a fixed stats. Here is the test: 3 harpoons, one cruising at 50ft, another at 5000ft, the last one is 35000ft. The launching f18c is at active pause. (the blue line is altitude, the red line is speed) First harpoon(50ft): At the time that yellow line is indicated, the speed of the harpoon started to decrease, which indicated that the harpoon ran out of fuel at this time. And the missile travelled 162km(the f18c is in active pause) Second harpoon(5000ft): At this time when the missile ran out of fuel and slowed down, the missile travelled 163km. This missile was cruising at 5000ft The third harpoon(35000ft): This time the harpoon travelled 158km before it ran out of fuel, the missile was flying at 35000ft. So the range of the missile is fixed around 160km, irrelevant with the altitude the missile is cruising at. The difference is the speed, at 50ft, the missile is cruising around 470kn; at 5000ft, the speed is 480kn; at 35000ft, the speed is around 800kn. It's a little bit strange for me, because it seems that the missile is managing the fuel consumption to perfectly travel 160km, while other missile, like aim120 or harm, travel different range at different altitude. I will test the slam if I have time.
  14. Thank you guys, It works! Seems that I need to check the manual carefully.
  15. It seems that I cant launch any a2a weapon on f18c, aim9x, 120b/c, aim7, neither of them. I checked my radar lock, the master arm, and air to air mode select. It seems everything is ok. But I just cannot launch a2a weapon. The air to ground weapon is fine, rocket, bombs, harm, they are good. I'm using keyboard, i change the weapon release button to left alt + space. When I press the button, I can even see the animation on the stick, I can see the red button is pressed down, but no missile is launched. I also check the other plane, f5e, p51, they are good. I'm not sure whether it is a bug, so I just post it here and hope some nice veteran can help. Thank you! I even review the 120 tutorial mission. And I can't launch it in that mission!
  16. the second maybe refers to the inaccurate arak rocket fire control due to the change of atmosphere features by ed.
  17. The bk90 is integrated into the dcs(ed's) dispenser munition system. And in this system, you just cannot alter the flying height of bk90s. At the very early time, when I bought the viggen, the bk90 actually released independent submunitions, at that time, the height could be changed. And there were a major change for bk90(about 1.5 years before?) and the thing was settled like now. Basically it's ed's fault ; ) Like the problem with anti ship missile. the missile will self destruct if the launcher plane is killed. It happens because the dcs system is drawing back.
  18. Now, this thread looks like a joke, or even a shame.
  19. the bk90 altitude is an old issue and cobra have already explained for a lot of time. And it is not very annoying if you are not using it in mountains. The annoying thing for bk90 is that the in range indicator on the hud is quite shorter than the actual range.
  20. It seems that there are also unreadable characters on wiki pages. But generally if you read the mission briefing carefully, those unreadable characters shouldnt bother.
  21. Because they can earn on new modules, they cant charge us again when they really complete the old modules.
  22. Agree, tt seems that this issue exists since the neolithic era
  23. BTW, the idea of this test started because I heared that the wind correction is fixed for bk90. And the bk90 wind correction is somehow successful, however when the crosswind is strong, like 16m/s, the submunition can completely miss the target using automatic correction(doppler). When the wind is 8m/s, only half to 1/3 submunitions are landed on the target.
  24. Basically I am trying to say that the wind information shown on the ck37 is not consistent with the manual. The magnitude is confusing. On the manual page 184 and page 193, the manual shows that the first 3 digits is the direction of the wind, and the 4th and 5th digits are the magnitude of the wind, IN KM/h. And I did three tests on this. https://ibb.co/ckx3sF6 The first test is the wind is blown to 90, from 270, and the magnitude is 2m/s, which is 2x3.6=7.2km/h. However the ck37 shows 270110, means the direction is 270(correct), the magnitude is 11km/h(wrong), the data is read from doppler. https://ibb.co/fvzG8NM On the second test, the wind direction is 270(from), and the magnitude is 8m/s=8x3.6=28.8km/h. However, the ck37 shows direction is 270, magnitude is 44km/h https://ibb.co/P9pbdJX On the third test, the wind direction is 270, magnitude 16m/s=16x3.6=57.6km/h. However, the ck37 shows 89km/h. When I compare the data, Test(real wind speed, ck37 speed) Test1(7.2km/h, 11km/h) Test2(28.8km/h, 44km/h) Test3(57.6km/h, 89km/h) I found that ck37 is not showing the correct speed(or say that the ck37 is not working as what the manual shows). The speed on ck37 is always 1.54 larger than the real speed(11/7.2=44/28.8=89/57.6=1.54) Any good Sarmatian can offer some help? Thank you ps. I collect the data when they are stable, after several minute after starting the mission. And the doppler is working. Also the link of the picture is above every picture.
