  1. Effectiveness in what aspect though? CCM? Range? Maneuverability? At least from this post you appeared to be referring to chaff: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4446197&postcount=66 Ill grant that you never explicitly said the R-77 has the new CCM code but at least from the context it appeared that you were implying it. In saying that the R-77 has similar ccm resistance are you referring to the ccm_k0 number in the files, or its practical effect in game (which is influenced by both the ccm_k0 and whether its on the new CCM code)?
  2. Just to make things clear, I was not, and am not advocating ED "nerfing" the 120 CCM, nor was that the goal. Just personally, im fine with its CCM RN, but thats just my opinion. The issue is that Chizh was claiming that the R-77 has the new CCM code and are equally effective in terms of CCM compared to the AIM-120B, which is NOT true as max has pointed out several times. Now I cant speak for max but it appears all he is asking for is for all the missiles to be updated to the new CCM code standard, which they are not, despite Chizh stating that they are based on his (IMO) flawed test, which as I explained is not indicative of the missiles actual CCM because of the AI issues. I dont think this is about balance, not do I think he was advocating for the AIM-120 CCM to be reduced, its about all the missiles being consistent. (at least thats the understanding I got from Max's posts, correct me here if im wrong).
  3. At least looking at the G meter fluctuating in tacview, the missile was still guiding, dunno, maybe its just tacview things. But I wouldnt be surprised if proxy fuzes in DCS werent linked to the battery life.
  4. Server IP: 73.32.85.67 Server PW: To be given before tournament start Please show up in the TS3 channel labeled "Mutual Support 1990s" at least 10mins before the start, or no later than 2020z.
  5. INTRO Mutual Support is a 2v2 BVR Tournament. Naturally, the smaller team sizes often lead to more aggressive and interesting fights that are focused on solid mutual support. Various editions of it will have various rulesets based on the approximate time era chosen; this edition is 1990s themed. DATE AND TIME This first edition of Mutual Support will start at 2030z on September 12, 2020. The running time will be no greater than 3 hrs. If this is exceeded, the competition will be resumed one of the the following Saturdays at a similar time, based on the teams preference. Registration ends on September 10th OBJECTIVES AND TOURNAMENT STYLE Each match is conducted as best of three rounds (note that time permitting, and teams willing, 3rd rounds may still be played for teams that lost the first two). The objective is to destroy all enemy aircraft (by doing so preventing them from RTBing), and still be able to RTB to the designated base. The competition is a knockout-style competition, with teams being eliminated after loosing a 3 round match. Time permitting, looser of the first round of fights will participate in a separate championship. RULES A single team may be comprised of as many pilots as desired; however, only two may be used at a time. Only one pilot is allowed to change between rounds (note that for the F-14, changing RIOs is allowed). Aircraft types may not be changed between rounds. Weapons loadout, however, can be. Mixed fleets of aircraft are allowed (e.g, one F-18C and one J-11A). All spawns are ground spawns separated by 100-120nm. Either of the spawn airbases is a valid RTB airbase The teams may choose which map they are going to use. Missions are available for Caucasus, Persian Gulf, and Syria maps. There is an engagement zone centered on the RTB airbase. This engagement zone will extend out to the spawn bases. You must stay within this engagement zone at all times; if you exit it you will be removed from the fight and cannot participate further. Weapons employment from outside the engagement zone is not permitted. You may not RTB/Respawn after takeoff. On the other hands, valid problems such as game crashes of a player will constitute a reason to restart the fight. Note that a restart for these reasons is only permitted within 5 minutes of takeoff. This also can only be done once per MATCH (not per round). Ping limit of 300 is server-enforced. Lonewolfs are allowed; the pairings are to be decided automatically the day before the matchup, and will stay that way for the tournament. Alternatively, you may decide on the pairings yourselves; in that case, simply state the agreed pairings no later than September 11th at 2300z. No AWACS is present; however, EWR coverage will be avaliable for both sides. More Rules TBD WEAPONS RESTRICTIONS This edition features a roughly 1990s rule set with some exceptions. The BANNED weapons are: AIM-9X, AIM-120C, AIM-54A Mk.60 and AIM-54C, and Nukes. Restricted weapons are: AIM-120B limited to 4. AIM-54 limited to 3. SD-10 is limited to 4. COMMUNICATION All team captains must be present on the Alamo Squadron Teamspeak (server info below) during play. IP: 73.32.85.67 PW: 5775 Questions are to be asked either in PMs, or on this thread. STREAMING AND PRIZES There is no anticipated stream as of RN. If you would want to volunteer DM me. There are no prizes, its simply for the fun of it! REGISTRATION Registration format is as follows: [Team Name] Player #1 Player #2 Player #3 ... As an example Alamo Squadron Alamo 1-1 | dundun92 Alamo 1-2 | Dankguy There will be a limit of 8 teams as of RN. OTHER RESOURCES For those that may be interested, but may not be familiar with 2v2 BVR, the 2v1, 2v2, and Tactical Intercepts of "Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering" are very informative. It is widely available as a PDF online.
  6. Chizh, why are you convinced that the "test" with the horrible DCS AI is in any way representative of the missile's actual chaff resistance? The AI does not know how to defend missiles properly. As an example, with DCS IR missiles under 1-1.5nm vs the AI, the AIM-9M, AIM-9X, and R-73 all have very similar (near 100%) hit rates, and the AIM-9L is only slightly behind, simply because the AI's flare dispense logic drops flares too infrequently, and is thus hopelessly ineffective against most IR threats. Against decent players however the vast superiority of the 9X quickly is noticed, and the 9M/R-73 are very easily defeated.
  7. AFAIK you can disable AWACS link for MP, the 104th does it for some of their missions, so its not too bad, but yea theres not much you can do.
  8. Yep, it will turn on its radar, and fly towards the the last predicted bandit position. Unsure if it extrapolates.
  9. He is not referring to the enemy missile, he is asking if him turning on his own ECM has an effect on his own missiles
  10. AIM-120 goes active at 15km
  11. They havent yet tho, and until then its the 3rd parties responsibility to maintain the missiles, not ED.
  12. DCS TTI/TTAs and WEZ/DLZ indicators as a whole are quite innacurate
  13. Its 19km currently, its defined in the lua
  14. Even though I dont fly the 14 there are really nice, this is really what newer players need to know. Knowing the limitations of your radar is crucial.
  15. Not in DCS, no.
  16. I mean why do you expect ED to work on Deka's missiles? Thats not their problem.
  17. What do 80s servers have to do with realism? Granted I will agree there are quite a large percentage of the community are like you described, but I wouldnt say most people. The 80s servers being empty really has more to do with the lack of interest in 80s combat than anything, which is a shame because it is fun.
  18. Nuff said... also the R-27 has a 60sec timer fyi, it doesnt self destruct but it just stops operating. Also i have no idea where you sourced the maximum vertical seperation of 27kft, the Su-27SK manual puts it at ±10km for the Short Burn alamos, and maximum target hieght of 25km (82kft): + a translated version,
  19. The RWR is hardly useless rn. Can it be improved? Sure, but its far from useless.
  20. RCS has nothing to do with notching. But your right, the missile is to easy to notch, and until it gets the new code/API unfortunately its gonna do this. This is the exact same problem the old 120 had.
  21. Yes we are getting the R-73 RMD-2, heres the quote from Chizh: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4448979&postcount=9121
  22. I have quite a few tracks of this happening, especially when the missile is slower and closing less quickly, giving it more time to reacquire, which is why the Bs do it more often as they are slower and loose energy faster. When notching missile launched sub 5nm this isnt as problematic, but for longer launches that end up with low terminal velocity its noticeable: AIM-120C_NoECM_NoChaff.trk AIM-120C_NoECM_NoChaff2.trk
  23. It is now possible to notch missiles with ECM on and no chaff, prior it was impossible to notch without chaff with ECM, as the missile would HOJ, at least as far as i know that is how it used to work. I can link some tracks if needed. Perhaps it was the AMRAAMs response to ECM that changed?
