  1. The only problem is that the OP said he tested this out in a program that forces the headset to do what he wants and it is not negatively impacting him. He's reporting back his real life experiences and you're spouting off theory. Is his experience worth nothing at all?
  2. Ok it's called Opentrack? It works in DCS? Why not just use that in game? Or this is just a suggestion as an option to be integrated into DCS as a menu option?
  3. He said he tested a program that essentially simulated the head movement of trackir in his VR headset. If that program works within DCS, I would just use that. It probably doesn't though....
  4. I know it would make me violently ill. It took me a long time to get my VR legs, then I had to get them all over again when I discovered DCS world. I powered through a session and felt sick for 3 days straight. Terrible dizziness that made me think it was a health issue, but it was too familiar to the first time I had to get accustomed to VR. The FOV is fine for me, I have to look around a little more. The problem I have in VR is now I can spot planes easily, what I can't do easily is identify if they're friend or foe unless I can see them on the radar. If I have to visually identify them from say a WW2 plane, I'd have to get pretty close. But there are people that can handle a lot more than me in VR. This should be an option to chose if it doesn't make too many people sick. If we tried to keep everything simple for everyone, we wouldn't have ANY free locomotion games, it would all be teleport.
  5. You get God Rays in the F15 in VR? I don't get any, what headset are you using? I have a rift and rift has issues in old games having godrays because the devs back then didn't know that dark on bright would create that effect on the lenses used in Rift. There shouldn't be godrays on the F15 cockpit. If you're not using a rift, I apologize for assuming. Perhaps lowering the Gamma might help?
  6. I play this game on the Rift. How important is the eye candy to you? There is a HUGE trade off. I personally love the rift and I could never play this game any other way, even TrackIR seems too limiting. I could pull my neck muscles with how much head swiviling I do in VR, turning around and literally looking directly behind you. The trade off is graphics for immersion. I imagine the most frustration would be having a hard time seeing enemy aircraft. After a while you spot them easily. Identifying them is another story. VR Clarity issues make you lean in real close to even be able to read the numbers on your gauges. You can glance at them just like you would in a car and know what you need to know by where needles are etc. The HUD is even hard to see things in. Like on F15, the bottom right corner that shows how many seconds until you reach target and under that how many seconds until a missle would reach target. It's very hard to read that, you have to lean in close. If you look for the info on the radar screen and you have an A120 armed, that round circle that comes up when you can shoot partially obscures that same information that you can hardly read on the HUD. So there are some frustrating issues. But the immersion.... I would never give that up, it doesn't even feel like the same game on a monitor.
  7. I have a similar problem. I can assign a key to zoom but it doesn't do anything. I can see it is bound when I push it in the settings screen. The only key that zooms for me is using the A button on the right touch controller. I want to bind it to a HOTAS button.
  8. Oh ok. I was on a server, so maybe it was lag. It looked crazy on Tacview.
  9. I play in VR and usually maintain a constant 45 FPS in this game. The reason you are not seeing any improvement no matter what you do is because it is being caused by the server side. I play on Through the Inferno constantly. I usually have 45 FPS, but when my FPS drops to 22 to 25 FPS it's because the server got busy. More people are connected. If it is also spawning more planes it has to track everything and this is slowing it all down. If you try playing local single player games your system should still be able to maintain 45 FPS for the most part. Mine drops down to 25 FPS on single player campaigns that have too many units on the map. I absolutely believe you're seeing something you can't fix right now. It needs optimization. But it is in Beta....
  10. Well I guess the upload feature doesn't work at all on this forum, it's not appearing. Are we able to share files here at all or is that not allowed? If not, you should disable the feature to attach files because it APPEARS to work. Tacviews end in .zip and that's one of the file types reported to be ok, yet it doesn't populate.
  11. How often does this happen? I just witnessed an SU-33 with UFO like behaviour that just warped himself out of range of an Aim 120 I fired on him. If he didn't warp, he might have been hit by the missle. Attached is the Tacview. If you go to 8:56 and switch views to follow the missle you can see it clear as day. Is this a known issue with AI? If so is this going to be fixed? I can't even tell if the attachment took. It is nowhere to be found after I uploaded it. Where can I upload a tacview file to be viewed? Hopefully it is attached, this forum is terrible when it comes to this feature. You can't even tell if the attachment is in the message after you've uploaded it. There's nowhere to confirm this at all.
  12. I wait about 3 minutes for everything to catch up once you are actually connnected to the server and looking at the aircraft selection screen. If you have a second monitor you can have task manager opened on the other monitor, open the process tab and you'll see DCS. Disk activity will be there the entire time until the FPS clears up. It is clearly loading things in at the beginning. Some campaigns that simulate an ongoing war that encompasses the entire map slow mine down to crap. 6 FPS on an I7 7700k w/ 16 gigs of ram and 1060 6gb. That's because it's tracking absolutely everything on the battlefield and the mission author put a BUNCH of units all over the place. I would hope there's a way to treat this like a renderer for 3d gfx. It doesn't do anything with the data you don't actually see in front of you, but then how does it track the progress of the rest of the battle?
  13. I don't know if this is a bug or intentional. In VR I can bind hotas keys or a knob to the Zoom function in settings for DCS. But they don't actually work ingame. I am using an Oculus Rift and the only way I can zoom is to pick up the right touch controller and push the A button. I'd leave it where it is if there is a way to turn the gloves off so I can set the controller next to the hotas without it showing up on screen and blocking the gauges in the plane. Maybe there is an option for that, I'll look for it. Does Zoom not work in VR except for the default assigned button on a vr controller?
  14. I'm beginning to believe that the video card cost will never recover and Video games on PC in general will die because nobody can afford $1,200+ for a video card. Multiplayer games will consist of nothing but enthusiasts and early adopters. There will no longer be casual gamers. If this doesn't clear up, why bother, it's a freaking rip off to buy a video card these days.
  15. When you load the single player version, the text that comes up when you start says you can host your own games if you want to play with just your friends. But they ask you not to make a public server and if you see any servers running their game publically to report it to them. I untick public and I put a password on it. I use this mission with a friend for training and I want to teach my brother how to fly the F15, but we're having problems with him being able to connect for some reason. (I think that's a DCS issue, it always says "Server Offline" when he tries to connect to me)
  16. You just extract the files somewhere you know the path to. Then you load the mission from DCS. You just go to Mission, then go to Open Mission and go to the path you extracted the file to and select it. Click open and it will load just like that.
  17. I ran it on my machine and had one person connected and it ran great. But I put a password on it and didn't make it public because the author doesn't want us running a public server which I completely understand. No need to cause confusion. The real MP server is really good and has many different features and sounds like saying "Shoot" when you have a lock and you're in range. I'm sure if a lot of people connected it wouldn't perform well because I was playing on it at the same time. It is a fantastic mission to teach a newbie how to play on. The MP version is so good, it's like a different game though. An I7 7700k w/ 16 GB ram (That's probably where additional ram would make a HUGE difference) the game is installed on an SSD and it has a 1060 6GB card in it. I don't know how much this will support, especially when I want to play also. But the above system with 1 person connected had no noticable lag or problems. I even left it up to take a break while my friend was on and watched something on netflix for an hour or so and it was still working the whole time.
  18. Oh, I thought DCE was a component that we could use to make our own missions with. Is DCE these actual campaigns by Mbot? Or is DCE itself actually something someone making missions could use themselves? I thought it was something specific to making and designing your own missions, not existing campaigns. I thought those were made using DCE and the OP was the author of both the campaigns and DCE itself, is that not the case?
  19. Yes we are both using the steam version. The first time we tried and it said server offline we just decided we were going to try on a public server. When we didn't see the same servers we checked our versions and that's when we noticed they were different. He opted into beta and it started a huge download. So we tried the following day. When we checked the version numbers that day after he got his update they were identical.
  20. Hi, thank you for the quick reply. I know that's not it because we live in different houses miles apart and are on our own individual internet accounts.
  21. That thread is 69 pages long and the file isn't posted at the top of the OP. Is there a direct link? Or could someone at least tell us what page it is on? I've gone through 15 of them and I just gave up, there's too many to look through.
  22. I am trying to host a server so I can show my brother how to fly a plane. I set everything up, I forwarded port 10308. I load the mission. A friend on steam can get on no problems by going directly to the IP address. When my brother tries the exact same way it says "Server Offline" on his screen. The first time we tried this it said that and didn't work, but we checked our versions and I was on 2.5.x and he was on 1.5.x. So he had to upgrade and we tried again the next day. But it had the same identical problem as before. Why is it doing this? How do we even begin to figure it out? Are there logs somewhere? We are both using the same service provider, it is cox. We were able to get on the Through the Inferno server last night, so it's possible to connect to another server together. Why is my server not working for the only person I set it up to play with? Why can other people connect with no problems yet he can not? Is there a program I can use to find out what is happening? He doesn't have to forward a port on his end does he? He's the client. I've turned public server on and off (Doesn't seem to matter, my server also never populates on the public server list) and I tried with integrety check on and off. No difference. Thanks for any help.
  23. Is there a mod for AI? It doesn't feel like I'm playing an opponent. It feels like if I fire a missle, they automatically respond, they can NEVER lose track of me once they've seen me. It feels so scripted. Am I imagining this? I don't like playing PvP in multiplayer, I'd rather play PvE but now that I can actually control a plane somewhat decently, the AI seems to be nothing more than reactionary. Can you EVER catch AI off guard or by surprise? Or do they automatically respond to every threat with a canned response to evade a certain way? They just don't seem believable. It could of course be me just being terrible at the game. How do people like the AI in this game?
  24. I can see them in 2.5, but maybe they changed something. I play in VR and I have to practically put my face against the canopy glass and fly towards the sun to see them. In the youtube video's I've seen, they always seem much more pronounced than what I'm seeing in VR, but that could be due to the clarity differences between VR and 1080+ res videos I see on youtube.
  25. When is this coming out? I have money and a propensity to impulse buy. This fits that mold perfectly. I got all of the other maps you've released. I love the maps you guys make. Take my money!!!
