As with all these mod attempts without a full deal with ED and trying to get something done anyway, take it with a grain of salt. If it does happen, it won't be any time soon.

DCS: F-5E is the hardest fast jet to fly in bad IMC weather
TLTeo replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS: F-5E
Because these early lightweight radars are all built around compromises and limited capabilities. The A-4's may have decent ground mapping capability (which is what you expect out of a dedicated attack jet), but it has no air to air capability whatsoever. The F-5 is a passable short range air to air radar, but just by virtue of having B-scope representation is entirely inadequate at ground mapping and bad weather flying. If anything, the reason the F-5 sucks in weather isn't its radar (although I agree the representation is outdated at this point), but the buggy TACAN and weird bugs with the gyros ending up misaligned. -
PSA: F-14 Performance/FM Development Status + Guided Discussion
TLTeo replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Most excellent, I've been flying the -A after a long break and I think I'm getting one every few hours I blame it on the lack of glove vanes. -
PSA: F-14 Performance/FM Development Status + Guided Discussion
TLTeo replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Quick reminder that 0.96*5 = 4.8 - so assuming (optimistically) that these new tests are super accurate and exactly representative of the RL tests they are being compared to, the FM is already within that 5% window. Test away all you want, but also please appreciate that we're talking about extremely minor differences already. -
Upcoming campaign for the F-16C in Syria: "The Gamblers"
TLTeo replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Community News
It's not out, but it's submitted to ED for approval. It usually takes a couple of months between when that happens, and when a campaign is released. -
feedback Completed the campaign! Congratulations and some feedback
TLTeo replied to TLTeo's topic in F/A-18C Raven One Campaign
Cheers! For M10 yes, what I meant is that I wish it was there for all the other missions too, especially ones with multiple flights -
Searching for proof of underperforming AN/APG-73 radar
TLTeo replied to GumidekCZ's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
We don't know where the values for the Jeff will land (but hopefully it will be reasonable). The Tomcat should be fine, the Mirage is fine but it's slated for a major rework of the radar to be more realistic, who knows with FC3, the Hornet could use a small upgrade. And also, detection range isn't everything. The AWG-9 is really good at it, but it sucks at holding tracks if both the own ship and target are maneuvering violently, while more modern radars don't have as much of a problem with that. -

On a semi related note, looks like the Jeff is getting its radar performance normalized to other fighters which is nice. Looks like radars are more or less getting tuned in the right direction. -
reported AIM-120s + All AIM-120 API Missiles in 2.7.7

Sigh moving away from the 2 week patch cycle was supposed to avoid game breaking issues making it to live, and yet here we are... -
Am I seeing this? F-16 gun drop compared to F-18
TLTeo replied to gavagai's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
^ that. For fixed G and airspeed, (instantaneous) turn rates are the same. What may differ is a) the AoA each jet requires to obtain a given G (which depends on airframe, especially wing, design) and b) whether each jet has enough power to sustain those turns or not (which is a function of available power, and required AoA to reach a desired G). This should be obvious if you look at an EM diagram comparing two aircraft for instance. -

TLTeo replied to gavagai's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Lots of things could be different - tracer composition as you said, but also seating position and viewing angle for instance. On top of that, the ADL is not necessarily the same. For example, the guns on the F5 are (very) slightly canted upwards, while that would not have been the case e.g. with the F-100 or F-101 (which carried the same guns, but under rather than above the nose). -
If you mean this one https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/228734-dcs-ufc-android-app/ then yep, I use it all the time for pretty much all the modules it comes with. Super useful, I don't know of any better apps.

When flying the F-14 and fire sidewinders, two launch simultaneously. Why?
TLTeo replied to ouseler's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This has been reported a few times, it's definitely a binding issue imo. I haven't had that problem (and just flew an event in Zone 5). -

TLTeo replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
You see, the reason the Tomcat can turn that well is that it was designed purely as an interceptor, and they needed the turn performance so that stern conversions during intercept got done faster. That and only that But yeah, it doesn't look like flaps (beyond maybe maneuvering?) are deployed to me. I think the lighter paint scheme can cause some confusion though. -
I tried playing around with it. The best way to figure out the right parameters is to go to active pause and drop weapons then, because then you can see where they land. I didn't find any good combination of speed/altitude that gave consistent results though.

Leatherneck / Magnitude 3 LLC / Heatblur
TLTeo replied to Frigondin Duglu's topic in Magnitude 3 LLC
The team that made the Mig-21 and Viggen, and was developing the Tomact, was called Leatherneck at the time. They have since split into Magnitude 3, who kept the Mig21, and Heatblur, who kept the Viggen and completed the Tomcat. -
Ugh removing CFTs is going to be the next Triple Maverick rack/4 Harm loadout hill people die on, isn't it?

reported AIM-120s + All AIM-120 API Missiles in 2.7.7
TLTeo replied to DSplayer's topic in Weapon Bugs
The old ECM problem was related to HB's implementation of the Sparrows, not something in the Tomcat itself. Also, with how simple jamming is in DCS, this is something that should be testable across multiple aircraft as well. -

TLTeo replied to GumidekCZ's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
And more importantly AWACS radars in DCS are handled by the AI and therefore modelled to much less fidelity than full fidelity modules anyway. -

TLTeo replied to DSplayer's topic in Weapon Bugs
It's honestly astounding than an issue this blatantly obvious made it anywhere past testing. I'm sad to say this, but this is very reminiscent of the lighting debacle in 2.5.6 (I think it was .6?), except this new slower patch cycle that was implemented after that is supposed to avoid the worse game breaking issues going to OB.... -
A lot of this may be down to Mission Editor settings as well. I found that you have to be super precise with what you tell any group, including your own fight, to do, and mission makers often don't do it (even e.g. HB in the Viggen Caucasus campaigns - the wingman in there almost never does his job properly).

Yep, it's just an on/off flag.

No aerodynamic tweak is magically going to increase ITR by that much either.

Halloween Sale is the wallet killer. Halloween Sale is the little-death that brings total annihilation. I will face the Halloween Sale. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye and see the modules I already have. Where the Halloween Sale has gone there will be no new modules. Only the ones I already have will remain. Seriously, I need to catch the movie. It's actually supposed to be pretty good. And if we can have an Xwing mod in DCS, why not an Ornithopter?
-
Yep they do - see e.g. the Su-27 FC3 manual.
