  1. What's the "trick"? :)
  2. I had another one of my "guns-only" sessions in a Su-27 last night with the dogfight commencing after the planes pass each other by in opposite directions. This time I decided to try my luck against the Mirage 2000C and I must admit it is an incredibly agile aircraft. Yes, my Sukhoi was only facing AI but the same AI that couldn't touch me in an F-16C was making me sweat flying the Mirage! To be honest I got shot down quite a few times and so far found no means to consistently gain advantage over the French fighter. Salut! :) What are your thoughts on this? Would the Sukhoi really get his a$$ kicked in a hypothetical dogfight against this plane?
  3. OMG! This is awesome! Please, tell me all the F-14 info is not April Fool's joke...
  4. Keep up the great work! My dream aircraft finally taking form! All the best in 2016! BTW, Swinoujscie rulez.. ;P
  5. Hi, This is the training mission I made and practised with for a few days now. My Plane: 1x Su-27S Flanker E My Loadout: 2x ECM 2x R73 2x R27ET Enemy: 2x F-15C Eagle Enemy Loadout: 4x AIM-9M Sidewinder (each) 1x Fuel Tank (each) Distance: 200km Expected Encounter Altitude: 4,000m ----------------------------------------- I take off, climb to 4k and turn towards the waypoint. "Beryoza" informs me of enemy presence on my 12 o'clock straight away. I enable my radar and set it to HI aspect, 150km expected enemy range and no elevation difference. My HDD is set to show 200km ahead of me. At a distance of 120km my radar picks up two bandits. I switch to TWS and focus the closer bandit. I turn off the autopilot, increase power (no afterburners), turn towards the enemy (7 degrees right) and start climbing to 6,000m. My weapon of choice is R27ET and as soon as the closer bandit gets within range I attempt to switch to IRST. However, the contact is lost and I need to get back to my radar. I repeat this process but I get hit by enemy missiles shortly after... Here are my questions: 1. What is the estimated range to target I need to achieve to be able to switch to IRST and not to worry I'll loose the contact (perfect clear sky)? 2. Will locking the bandit with active radar first (STT) and then switching to IRST keep him alerted? Will his RWR continue to alert him of the lock even after I start tracking him with IRST? 3. Should I swith the radar off when certain to acquire the lock with IRST before to gain more stealth? Apparently, the Su-27 was created to counter the F-15C but so far, even giving the enemy "only" the AIM-9M Sidewinder and being able to use the longer ranged R27ET I am struggling to be at least competitive (I was killed in 3 out of the 4 scenarios I described above). Please, help me analyse my mistakes and point them out to me. Thank you and Merry Christmas! :)
  6. Amazing - thank you!
  7. Ahh, thats it! Thank you for your time, patience and please forgive me my lack of knowledge.. It's not ignorance! :)
  8. I do apologize but what does "putting the lift vector on the enemy aircraft" mean exactly? :(
  9. Thanks all for help! Testing will continue tonight with the new tactics... ;)
  10. During the last couple of days I've been trying to learn the secrets of the Su-27, with my friend training in the MiG-29S. As far as I know the latter has a simplified flight model but still I couldn't believe how easily the MiG outmanoeuvres the Sukhoi! It seems to me that all the MiG pilot has to do is to pull the stick all the way back and enjoy the tightest turns maintaining glorious accelerations.. Even the "magic S-button" doesn't provide enough edge over the incredible agility of the Fulcrum. I've read a few articles about these two aircraft over the years and always had the Flanker for a winner in a potential (and unrealistic) dogfight with guns only. However, I find it very difficult to keep up with this machine when following it and nearly impossible to break his lock when he's on my six. I am no ace but I know how to fly.. I try maintaining my energy, I exchange kinetics into alt and vice versa, I'm manoeuvring "according to the book", I use flaps and try to surprise him with turning the Direct Control on/off. Unfortunately, all this is still not enough.. :/ We both started flying these two jets two weeks ago, for roughly 3 - 4 hours a day... Is my friend a genius or is there something wrong with the FMs of either of these fine machines?
  11. Thanks again guys! Much obliged.
  12. Hi, After the "weekend trials" I came up with the following questions: 1. Since the radar goes "all the way" what does the "expected target range" do to help in target acquisition? 2. The manual mentions twice that the TWS provides the pilot with more detailed information on the tracked target. Where is that "extra" info displayed and what is it? After "snapping" the designator on the target all that I get is the radar cone following the target outside the usual 120 degree limits and a very NOT desired auto lock (STT) when within 85% of the weapon's delivery range.. Thanks!
  13. Am I right to assume that the further away the contact is the higher on HUD it will be displayed? Again - massive "thank you" for taking the time to explain this. I will definitely have questions when I get myself in the air (I'm at work at the moment) so I will call again! ;)
  14. Very informative! Thank you.
  15. That's exactly what we'll do - thanks for help!
  16. Your help is very much appreciated. ;)
  17. I'm definitely practicing that tonight :joystick: - thanks again! PS. As many around here, I am a happy owner of the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. Does any of you proud Flanker drivers care to share their button layout? I'm curious how you managed to set up the so much needed radar controls on the throttle and joystick. Thanks!
  18. Thanks! This is a very legit and clear guide. However, all me and my friend are doing at the moment is spawn on the same airfield, me in the Flanker and him in an Eagle, take off and try to lock one another... I know it's basic and probably way above your interest but that's how we're trying to learn. Sometimes, we loose track of each other..... :D We are definitely still within Close Combat zone so VS or BORE modes should be used but because they require visual to lock (they do, right?) and we simply can't spot each other flying in circles it causes issues... :) So, we try BVR calibrated instead but as this is a "long range" sensor the effects are poor at best... Is there a way to scan for and track targets inside the Close Combat range but when one is unable to visually ID the enemy's location (say in a fog or heavy rain)? There must be... :( Also, a really silly question... Do the "-" and "=" keys control only the zoom of the HDD or do they increase and decrease the actual radar range? AFAIK, radar has the same strength/range all the time and the arc on the HDD is there to show it but I'd better confirm.. :)
  19. Thanks! Sure, if you've got the time I'd like to read as much as you've got to say! :)
  20. Fellow Pilots, With my friend joining the DCS Community (after I bombarded him with countless videos, screenshots and facts about this sim) he managed to convince me to take a break from "ground pounding" in my A-10C and jump inside a fighter cockpit instead. I always liked the Su-27 so I chose to learn to fly this platform. Unfortunately, even after reading the DCS: Su-27 Flight Manual twice AND taking notes (!), watching loads of youtube videos and spending the last 6 days in the cockpit I'm still struggling to fully understand the laws of the Su-27 radar. Target's aspect hemispheres, "guessing" the range and elevation differences, generally smooth and fast target acquisition in all ranges - this is where I struggle. So... Is there anything out there I don't know about that would "take my hand" and guide me like a child through the processes that govern radar usage on the Su-27? I know what buttons "do" - now I'd like to learn "why" and "how"... All suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance!
  21. As far as I remember, the in-game Manager was only giving me the option to buy.. I'll double check after work.
  22. OMG!!! Please, please, please Leatherneck Simulations - make this happen!!!!!
  23. Best I've ever seen: http://www.military-meshes.com/forum/showthread.php?5148-F-14&highlight=tomcat
  24. It's not that they're gonna take it back now..., is it?! :no_sad: :cry_2: :shocking:    :surprise: :ranting: :vertag: :sad_2: :wallbash: :censored: :disgust:
  25. "(...) two-players in the same aircraft is planned for the L-39. We see this as an important feature, not just for the L-39, but other current and future DCS modules."... Please, give us the "Turkey"...
