I'm trying to max my graphics settings in DCS: World (flying mainly the Dora) but discovered that some areas eat my FPS with no apparent reason. I can run "Instant Action Cold Start" mission for the Dora and get fluid FPS unless I look in a specific direction. After I do, I get roughly 4 FPS. Same goes to "Instant Action Dogfight" (Dora again). Looking in one of the directions causes a drastic frame rate drop. Now, I don't think it is a problem with DCS but I'd still like to max all graphical settings to enjoy flying the most. I'd like you to have a look at my specs and tell me what seems to be causing the above mentioned issues. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit AMD 6-core Phenom II @3.21GHz (1090T) 16GB Corsair RAM @1.33GHz AMD XFX 2GB Radeon HD7850 Corsair HDD @7200rpm Until I get my hardware upgraded please, tell me what do the following settings change: Scenes - what will be simplified after lowering this setting (terrain mesh?)? Visib Range - will 3D objects be popping up in front of me from nowhere after I lower this? Does the ground texture resolution get lowered? I already set my Water to Low... Thanks!

I hope the devs knew what they were doing when naming their sim "dcs WORLD"... ;)

Call me thick but after full three days of training and countless Doras lost I can finally say I learnt how to take off. :megalol: This is my first ever tail-dragger simulation and I must admit that I will never say a bad word about modern jet plane flight assist systems again. Those things do marvels for us! The amount of micro rudder and aileron input required to get in the air safely and nicely in the Dora is (from my perspective) unbelievable. The already huge respect I had for the WWII pilots (not only German), having only one life and able to make only one fatal mistake trying to tame their aircraft has just doubled. Here are the things that helped me to ask Dora out and take her for a ride: 1. Absolutely most crucial thing and my most common error was centring the stick too soon. When the tail wheel unlocks your already applied rudder input yaws the plane to the right and you start skidding (and skidding at these speeds is drift extravaganza!). Those that haven't figured it out yet or read it elsewhere: do not centre the stick until you reach ~150km/h. At this speed you can centre it literary in a second and nothing bad should happen. Your tail will get airborne which will only add to your yaw ability and even less rudder will be required to keep you on the runway. 2. Second most important thing is not to do the opposite and hold the stick back for too long. If the elevator is nailing your tail to the ground but the speed creates enough lift under the main wings the first thing that will happen to you after you lift off will be a stall. 3. Be prepared to counter the prop gyro effect and apply a slight roll to the right the moment your wheels leave the ground. I am no expert at this but following these rules allowed me to perform 10+ consecutive successful take offs. It's a nice change to look at the crash craters from my earlier attempts from above. :smartass: Two more things you might find helpful but not related to how you control the aircraft during take off: 1. Enable the Take-Off Assistance for the Dora and observe what kind of movement and to what extend the "AI rudder" is performing during you normal take off. It will help you realize what type of movement you need to reproduce to get in the air with no assistance. 2. Watch your Artificial Horizon the moment you apply thrust and try to neutralize the Turn indicator's movement with the rudder as you gain speed. The thing we don't feel flying our virtual aircraft on PCs is the g-forces the pilot would sense with his whole body. He could counter any initial side to side motion because he would feel it. We need a visual representation of that to act. Sorry for a long post but I'm really happy I finally got it right and I hope my experience will help others. Dora truly is a Lady and it takes some time and practice to find a way to satisfy her... :music_whistling: Happy flying! :joystick: :pilotfly:

Amazing info! Thank you for sharing. I hope Dora will soon get this fix.

Same here. Left edge of the gun sight should mark the center of view. Instead, the view is shifted to the right.

For me, Dora take offs tend to be tricky and very "random". Sometimes she will get airborne smoothly and sometimes I end up in a pile of burning rubble. I keep my tail wheel locked until 170 km/h accelerating at a constant 2500 rpm but a slight right rudder correction is always required. Not releasing the rudder on time however, just as the aircraft becomes airborne ends with a nasty instant roll to port side which is usually unrecoverable.. :(

[REPORTED] Fw 190 Cockpit Bar! (answer Post #173)
Belphe replied to Krupi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I don't understand why some people laugh at this issue. Who cares if this has been discussed before? Who cares how many posts it takes to cover this subject? Bored? Don't read it! Apparently, this problem has never been fully resolved in any sim so those that love realism and historical accuracy should be happy DCS reaches new levels of immersion (refraction seems to be the culprit here and if ED adds it to their sim it is likely to become the first one that actually found a solution to the dispute and fixed it). Those that paste immature pictures and childish comments in this thread (go on.. I know you want to!) could spare us our time as majority of us don't find them funny.. I personally think this "bar issue" needs sorting out no matter how one is receiving this sim. "Sunday Fliers" won't feel any difference when they get shot down (again) and the hardcore simmers will be pleased that ED served a quality product and listened to the community.. (again). Keep up the great work! -
I just had the same experience. Just after going over 8km I started to create a white contrail.. It looks nothing like vapour, more like fuel leak and it starts right next to the left engine exhaust.

With all do respect to those that feel offended by the words in the song (which BTW at first I could neither hear nor understand [yes, I know what they mean - thanks, google translate]), I think that: 1. history mustn't be forgotten 2. bad decisions shouldn't be repeated 3. everybody deserves a second chance 4. no one is responsible for the sins of their forefathers 5. a WWII aircraft in (an upcoming) WWII sim is allowed grim bits from it's era After all, as flight enthusiasts all we should care about is flight...

little? Did you really say little? LITTLE?! ok..

The Dora is just awesome and incredible !!!
Belphe replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I was going to say - I find taking off in the Dora harder than landing but Bf-109 will probably turn my definition of hard landing upside down! -
I absolutely adore the new Dora background music!
-
OMG, would I want to see this in DCS:Dora! :joystick:

Let's not make DCS another MOBA game that needs tweaking and nerfing every unit to make them "competitive".. Let's make the units historically accurate and extremely difficult to master so that it is down to their pilots to win or lose.. So far, ED is spot on on their path...
-
Damn, who am I to give suggestions - I haven't even downloaded the module myself but have you guys locked the tailwheel??
-
I remember this happening to me in the hog. Hypoxia is in this sim.

Go on! Upset me with your screenshots (as I'm still at work) ;)
Belphe replied to Belphe's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I was just going to say it myself... The lack of screenshots hurts even more than loads of them... :( -
Looks like the KS backer page is now working
Belphe replied to the_soupdragon's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
The imminent Dora release, I sense... -
Just printed the 118-page long manual which should hopefully kill the remaining few hours...
-
Nah, my girlfriend would be fine with that! It's my wife that I'm worried about...

So.. I'm off tomorrow (what a coincidence! ;) ) and aim to spend a few romantic moments with Dora. :pilotfly: To be honest, I'll probably be awake all night and so I wanted to know what are the chances of me putting my hands on her (!) just seconds after midnight (after all, it will be August 5th...)? In other words: what is the exact time she is released (GMT)? Thanks!
-
Yup, that's me being thick... ;) Thanks a lot for that!

I do apologize if this is a simple issue that my head simply cannot comprehend... But... I re-installed DCS roughly a month ago and recently updated it to 1.2.8. Last weekend I wanted to demonstrate the sim to my friend so I went to the Mission Editor and placed a "player controlled" Ka-50 on the runway in Sochi. Unfortunately, the sim launched with a different Ka-50 taking off and being piloted by AI. I was unable to "find" my aircraft (F1) or take control over the AI one. I do have it purchased and the "Package Manager" is displaying it (and many others) as "Active". I later discovered that I cannot fly anything at all apart from Su-25T which is obviously free and comes with the DCS World package. Could this be a corrupt file and all I need is re-install or perhaps I "forgot to put a tick" somewhere..? Please, assist me with this awkward problem.
