  1. Neither is an F-15C vs an A-10A or Su-25. So I’m not quite sure what your point was.
  2. How about 95 km in the sim? If the brief lock hadn’t broken, I had launch authorization at just inside 95 km. I couldn’t relock and launch until just above 80, though you can see RMax-1 remains at 95:
  3. From the DCS main menu, select REPLAY. Navigate to the track’s location (if necessary), select it, and click OK. Play it as far as you want and press the ESC key on your keyboard and proceed as you did when you first saved the track.
  4. Yes and no. It depends on what you want to do. TRK files start at the beginning and only play forward. So you can, for instance, shorten a TRK to only show the beginning by playing it back, stopping it where you want, and saving the shortened TRK. If you wanted to only show something in the middle or at the end, however, you’re SOL. ….
  5. Most of it, I imagine. The environment is the same—atmosphere, clouds, terrain, sea, AI. The aircraft will be different at first but, once they start converting DCS aircraft to MAC, much of that will be shared as well. DCS and MAC are modules that plug into their Simulation Operating System, as will future products.
  6. There was only one salvo mode—all of the selected weapon. So there was no “which” mode to indicate. But they did remove the salvo indication at some point and it would be nice to have it back. Some of us can’t remember whether or not we turned it off after using it. It’s very disconcerting to salvo your bombs only to have all of your R-27s leave the rails at once, when you launch against a closing hostile aircraft as you come off target.
  7. It's a solution but might not be a solution for DCS World. What's described in the interview doesn't sound much like DCS World: It really feels like they plan is to keep the two separate. But that's just my take on it. I'm guessing that MAC will even have its own separate Forum because it is being viewed as its own animal.
  8. He can join a server but will only be able to fly aircraft he owns. So with DCS World only, he’ll have the Su-25T and TF-51D, the two free aircraft, available to fly.
  9. From Wags with more detailed descriptions: …
  10. Only marketing? How about an expanded player base? For people not interested in a study sim, MAC will provide the long absent opportunity to enjoy a serious combat aviation sim with numerous aircraft to fly. It should also improve the overall online player base as well, though possibly not the DCS base itself. My impression is that MAC will have its own dedicated servers.
  11. From Matt’s interview in P C Pilot, Issue #119: MAC is its own animal. The assumption is that, unless you are an FC3 fan in DCS, you will not be investing in it. It’s being released with more maps than FC was as it is. With the SOS, any map will work with either product and future products as well. That was the plan at the time of the interview, anyway.
  12. I think they just took some shortcuts with the mesh. Unless you were flying low and slow, you’d never notice it.
  13. They’ll probably spot it but you might want to let them know that that isn’t the only water issue in that area. If you look in the last image posted, the terrain mesh drops in the upper left corner. The water follows it and this leads to a water valley that runs out to midstream.
  14. If people only wanted “full fidelity”, there would be no reason to create MAC. It’s because there is a void between console and “full fidelity” combat sims that MAC is being created. It’s purpose is not to generate more DCS customers (though that will probably happen to some degree) but rather to provide a venue for the customers who want to enjoy a serious military sim without the time investment DCS modules require. With MAC, the customer can be up and running with a shorter learning curve and still fly aircraft using the professional flight model and realistic flight controls. Or use a more relaxed flight model, if that’s their desire. Use a joystick and throttle or keyboard and mouse to fly. The goal is to appeal to a much wider customer base than DCS. I’ve never seen anything suggesting that, if you own a DCS module, it would be free in MAC. But it could be, I suppose. FC3 customers will supposedly be able to buy MAC at a discounted price. And future MAC aircraft module additions will supposedly have been DCS aircraft first. So it seems likely that, if nothing else, they too would be discounted. ….
  15. Only if you use the old clouds. Select NONE for the presets and, then, use the sliders to set the cloud base and thickness for the old (very old) clouds. Finally, select "10" for the density.
  16. I just tried it on the Caucasus map and it worked as it should. I seem to recall a similar complaint shortly after the new clouds were released. Some people had your experience, others had mine. I don't recall, at this point, if there was a resolution or not. EDIT: It seems to be map dependent. I had no issues on the Caucasus and Nevada maps. But, on the Persian Gulf map, anything less than 550 meters (1800 ft) put the clouds sea level. At 550 m they ended up at 550m for awhile regardless of the incremental setting. Similar behavior on the Syria map except the trigger altitude was 500 meters.
  17. My apologies. I was too over bearing.
  18. We seem to be talking past each other. Yes, the tab is there. It is also usable to create and save dynamic weather in missions both old and new, whether or not the old mission already has dynamic weather. That‘s why I was confused by what you were saying. It works as it should for me. As for the PDF you’re referring to, it says that the tab doesn’t exist unless the mission contains dynamic weather. And that’s certainly not the case today. It’s been a year or so, since I’ve paid any attention to dynamic weather. So that statement might have been true when it was written. But it isn’t true now…at least not in the OpenBeta. EDIT: Dynamic weather used to give some great weather effects but, since the 2.5 cloud update (the one prior to the most recent static weather clouds and still used by dynamic weather), it’s most effective for creating winds that change as the systems move across the map. The cloud cover/rain/wind effects that can be created are a shadow of what was once possible.
  19. Sorry. It always works for me. That’s why I’m confused. Unless, perhaps, it’s map specific? Edit 2: Where does it explain that the dynamic weather tab doesn’t work unless the mission already has dynamic weather in it?
  20. Either way, the tab is accessible. That’s why I’m confused.
  21. I created a batch file a year or two ago to auto delete all the folders that should be deleted after an update. All I have to do is click it and it’s done. I’m about to leave on vacation but I’ll upload it here when I get home from work tonight…assuming I remember. EDIT: I've attached the batch file. You'll need to open it with NotePad++ and replace the items in parentheses with your installation's information. So, for instance, the line: @RD /S /Q "C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Saved Games\(Your DCS Installation Name)\FXO" might become @RD /S /Q "C:\Users\Mike\Saved Games\DCS.Openbeta\FXO" This batch file is set up to delete the FXO, metashaders2, and your installation's temp files in the AppData/TEMP folder. I have mine copy on my Desktop and just double click it to run it. Delete Folders.bat
  22. ??? I have no problem accessing the tab when creating a mission. Is that what you actually mean?
  23. Several weeks ago, I installed the MiG-31 mod wondering what I might see. Even though I could lock the target (B-1B, IIRC) earlier, I did not get launch authorization until the same 85 km that I had had with the AI in my June post in this thread.
  24. The Rs and ERs supposedly have the ability to relock.
  25. In Pre-Briefed mode (in which they would only need to figure out a way to launch the thing) there doesn’t need to be a radiating target at launch)
