Yeah and it's a shame! I don't think I know anyone here in sweden with a sub-10Mbit connection (the slowest is an ADSL though, so 10/2). I'm on 10/10 but moving on to 100/100 later this fall. I feel really sorry for all the people on slow telephone modems still. I guess it's even cheaper (and easier) here in sweden to get a mobile broadband unit using 3G that'll probably give you at least 1-7/~0.5 which is ragingly more speedy than those slow modems.

I find this quite interesting, gotta love statistics O=) http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/ I really find it fun to see what the majority of people around the world have (out of the steam users that is). But anyway, I think it's probably a quite good estimation of the game-oriented computers in circulation.

How much would you pay for top-class gaming machine?
Boulund replied to Bimbac's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah you always get some of the components that aren't mentioned in the overview specification that are just plain bad and beyond budget choices. I was there once to though! :music_whistling: -

I wouldn't pay more than at max around $1800 usd, all included (monitor etc). update: Bought my current rig 2 years ago for the stately sum of $1530 USD (todays exchange rates, so might be a bit off). CORSAIR 2GB DDR2 XMS2 PC6400 CL5 (2X1GB) ZALMAN NÄTDEL 600W-HP SILENT SAMSUNG SPINPOINT 500GB SATA/300 7200RPM 16MB INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6750 2.66GHZ 4MB 1333MHZ S-775 MSI P35 PLATINUM SOCKET 775 P35 ATX LOGITECH CLASSIC KEYBOARD 200 USB SAMSUNG DVD±R/RW/RAM DL 20X SATA BULK SVART ANTEC P180B BLACK MIDITOWER ALBATRON GEFORCE 8800GTS 640MB HDTV DVI-I HDCP PCI-E I'm with most other posters about going for the lower high-end of things because I'm certain I'll get a lot more value out of that. I'm usually on a three year replacement plan so this baby will have to do for another year. Most of the time I go for stuff that have some clockability as well, to make it feel great even that last third year. So far this has worked out great for me (done this since 2001) and I'll continue doing this I guess ;) -
I didn't have much hopes to the validity of your theory - I've never experienced the sharpening of the textures you describe (in this game, it's fairly common in Unreal Engine 3 though), and testing combinations of low medium high on all settings except water and textures I get no difference what so ever on this problem. I can make it look totally unplayable by lowering textures to low or medium but I can't stand that. I love the way it looks on high and it plays wonderfully, it's just that when I zoom out some textures get a lot more blurry than others. Others just seem to scale nicely like they should, but the concerned textures just go nuts on the blurring. It certainly looks like some sorts of anisotropy because I can practically induce the blurring-effect by just shifting the angle at which I'm looking at the texture. It looks just like the common anisotropy effect you get from a plane going towards the horizon. I think I've got plenty CPU and GPU cycles left though, since I'm testing it in a completely empty singleplayer mission with nothing but me and I'm seeing ~90 FPS without any drops at all (Vsync off of course, otherwise I hit the roof on 60 fps).

I've also experienced the slower ABRIS, but never noticed any FPS-drops connected to that.

"Day 483" - A Leningrad Short Story
Boulund replied to wickedpenguin's topic in Military and Aviation
Almost a bit like Clive Barker imho. I liked it, you made a great presentation and the finale is great and discrete, despite being quite obvious and painting. -
But everything is already at highest possible?

Hi everyone. I just realized I've got some graphical issues with some textures in the cockpit. Note that I've got Dragons (+TangoRomeos) SharkPit installed, but the problem is present in the regular cockpit as well. I've attached some screenshots, look at the weapons selection/master arm panel in the center of the screen. The problem is this: I get blurred textures beneath the HUD, on the weapons selection/master arm panel and on the UV26 counter measures panel. This only occurs when I zoom out beyond a certain level. I'm on the following hardware using the following settings: GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB (G80) overclocked slightly (never above 70 degrees C) 2GB DDR2 RAM overclocked slightly Core2Duo E6750 @ 3.4Ghz (load never above 45 degrees C) WinXP SP3 All game settings on High except water which is at 0 through lua-edit. Graphics card settings (nVidia profile for this application): 16x AF 4x AA (forced) Transparency supersampling Anisotropic sample optimization OFF Negative LOD bias ALLOW Texture filtering HIGH QUALITY Trilinear optimization OFF Triple Buffering ON Vertical Sync ON Not that I've played around with practically all combinations of all the above settings and none of the show any improvement. Anyone care to take a wild guess at what's wrong? I'd love to get rid of this uglyness and would appreciate any help. Thanks!
-
That I have. It sure looks like some anisotropy setting though, because it's evident that it's dependent on my distance and angle to these textures.
-
It is already. So it isn't really that, sorry. I've bumped up my AF and AA to 16x and 4x as well so it isn't that. An mipmaps are set to high quality so it ain't that either. Anything else anyone can think of?

Two Su-27 fighters collides over Zhukovsky
Boulund replied to Namenlos Ein's topic in Military and Aviation
There was a brief notice about it on the swedish news site Aftonbladet with some bad video footage: http://www.aftonbladet.se/webbtv/nyheter/utrikes/article5651703.ab note: you'll probably be forced to view some lame commercial message before the actual video starts... Quick translation of what she's saying: Two jet planes collided in Russia this sunday. One pilot is reported dead and two injured. The jets are of type Su-27 and crashed in the outskirts of a small village near Moscow. Three houses are said to have cought on fire and one woman suffered burns, states local media. A total of three pilots where in the two jets, and first there was information that all three survived, but now the statement is that one was killed. Witnesses say they saw two pilots eject from the airplanes with their parachutes after the crash. The flight show was a preparation for the big russian air plane show MAKS 2009, beginning in next week with the purpose of marketing russian airplanes. The show usually attracts tens of thousands of viewers. -
It might be because of the longer arm of the upper rotor, but it could very well be equally much because of the lower rotor's continous operation in downdraft?
-
Thanks Dragon, it's lovely. One thing I don't like about it though is that the plate beneath the HUD and the Master Arm/Weapons Stores plate become blurred when zoomed out, this is not unique to this mod though, and is seen in the original version as well
-
But still, it is really lovely when you find 4-6 people on a server and you get some good teamplay going. You don't need as much people in a helisim like this imo. Granted, you still have to time your play time with everyone elses, I've tried to go online at times it was just plain dead, noone playing but me - and that is a bit sad, but unfortunately the way it is.
-
But that's just when the wingtip is destroyed, I lost an entire wing =) Strange that I didn't find that post when searching though.. Must've been because I only thought you could loose the wing in its entirety (and not searching for wingtip ;))
-
I for one do not really like it. Think it makes the cockpit look washed out and it's a pain having to press shift-F12 everytime you want to check the map (F10), because it's very washed out with the effect activated. I've never been much for these bloom things anyway. Looks somewhat nicer though, when in exterior view.

New trim & Old trim option - Cant trim either way, help
Boulund replied to Quirkitized's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I've got a X52 Pro and it works very well with the new trim system for me so I guess it's not that. -
Hi! Just noticed an interesting scenario today that I can't find anything about through searching the forums. I got hit with a missile and lost my right wing, but I was still able to fire flares from the flare dispenser on my right side. The flares just popped out of nowhere (where the dispenser was supposed to be). Anyone else experienced this?

General setup for a beginner?
Boulund replied to TheHeretic's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'd say the bare necessities that you need mapped are something like this: Collective mapped to one throttle Cyclic mapped to your joystick X and Y axes. Have you got twist-stick maybe you should set it as rudder? Trigger - cannon fire second button - weapon release a thumb-reachable button for Trim that ought to be the things that are essential for just flying about. Start with that then add other things as you figure out you need them. What I used to have mapped to my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (similar, but I guess less advanced) was something along these lines: plastic throttle - collective joystick + twist - x, y, z axes trigger - cannon second button - weapons release cannon toggle trim laser rangefinder shkval uncage /cage target box size + / - shkval zoom + / - cannon ROF selection cannon Rounds selector Deploy flares Lock target POV - slewing shkval (prefer to use it for shkval and use mouse for looking around, or freetrack) helmet mounted sight ground moving target automatic turn to target It's amazing what you can do with a reasonable joystick with a couple of buttons while using one of the as a shift. Almost HOTAS ;) -
With a slight chance of going a hint off topic I'd just like to mention that first of all a swedish DCS BS would be very strange indeed, and second that it would be economical disaster spending time doing a translations for such a small market. On top of that I'd like to add that i disagree with your standing on english being a superior language =p Nothing's more lagom than swedish ;) On topic I'd love to see your missions in english Dragon! edit: just read the last few posts and realized I'm still learning to read the entire thread before posting!
-
I haven't and as long as it works well for me I don't see the need. Do you? Online and offline both works great. I could even swear I saw a mention that it wasn't necessary, but I can't really say where =)
-
How about online air refueling? edit: of course I didn't read the thread through...
-
I think the reason that the helo stops dead is because it's a very heavy object standing on only three small wheels and on softer ground types like grass etc it just probably settles into the ground and gets stuck ;)

I remember that when I wanted to go flying 1.02 earlier this year I found no servers for it on hyperlobby, but around 3-4 servers with maybe at most 3-4 people on them using the UBI tool (can't remember its name). Bought Flaming Cliffs and it's a whole new world opening up with tons of players and less bugs and more fun... And god I know I hated that answer to this question half a year ago. I realize you wan't to play 1.02 online and not FC, but buying FC was the best thing I did for Lock On...
