  1. So far, the best way I know for increasing FPS is turning off water (everyone should do this regardless of PC performance, really) and overclocking the CPU. These two things are very easy to do and give a lot back. In my opinion the next best thing is to get Windows 7, and third get a new computer.
  2. I felt like I was really pushing myself when I breached 5min but I can really see it can clearly be done faster than that.
  3. Hmm, that's a shame! =/ I was hoping for nerve-breaking competition. In my desire of knowing what I'm up against I checked the flag-counter-thingy you've got on the website and saw a lot of hits so was hoping for at least 90 contestants in total. Still feel the need to push myself to new limits so expect a hard competition (registered) guys! Thanks for the info!
  4. First of all, turn of water completely by editing \...\BlackShark\data\scripts\options.lua with a text editor that IS NOT windows notepad. ( I recommend Notepad++, http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) Change this row: ["water"] = 0, so that it looks like above, this disables the high impact of water rendering in game. MASSIVE improvement so try it out even if you don't believe me. Try playing around with the settings to find a good combination of eye candy and FPS. I usually turn down shadows, drop the "Resolution of Cockpit Displays" to lowest possible (you won't see any difference anyway), Keep textures on highest because you really want them sharp =) Try lowering scenes Lowering view distance Turn of mirrors Other than that the most beneficial thing you can do is overclock your CPU.
  5. Got that much figured, thank you :smartass: But still, are there 90 people registered? I have no idea what the competition for the qualification round is like. Gotta keep practicing my touch-n-go's until the mission is out :book:
  6. How many registrants are there? What are we up against? Who?
  7. I advice you to only set up your axes in-game and use the Saitek SST profiling software do the button assignments. Make use of all the keyboard-commands that are default in lockon! =) There are others that have been experiencing the same problem and all (as far as I know) solved it this way...
  8. Same for me, had no issues at all with either LockOn, FC or Black Shark in Windows 7 64bit
  9. Gratulerar!
  10. Interesting! A shame I wasn't there for the last one. I'm in! =D
  11. Actually I did some primitive benchmarking in the early days of Black Shark and it's available in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36500 specifically these two posts: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=613309&postcount=37 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=613550&postcount=40 Obviously it isn't the best test setup but it kind of shows that performance is very cpu-clock-dependant. Looking forward to your results!
  12. First off here is my computer: Windows 7 Professional 64bit Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz overclocked to 3.4Ghz (~28% overclock) 4GB DDR2 with a slight (1:1 ratio) overclock GeForce 8800GTS 640MB (G80) @ 650Mhz core / 1000Mhz memory (~25% overclock) ------- Here are my results from one run with my preferred settings: Textures HIGH Scenes HIGH Civ Traffic YES Water OFF (DISABLED IN LUA (0)) Visib Range HIGH Heat Blur ON Shadows ACTIVE PLANAR Resolution 1680x1050 Aspect 16:10 Monitors 1 SCREEN Res. of Cockpit Displays 256 Mirrors OFF Vertical Sync ON (nVidia ControlPanel) Anisotropic Filtering FORCED 16x (nVidia ControlPanel) Anti-Aliasing FORCED 4x (nVidia ControlPanel) Results: Frames: 62010 Time: 1191452 Min FPS: 12 Max FPS: 62 Avg. FPS: 52.046 Comments: The FPS felt solid and the gameplay fluid until the obsessive spamming of flares(!) when the FPS dropped to the low-point of 12. Looking into the smoke stack left by the dying flares is a real fps-killer for me =). I've attached a plot of the FPS vs time in case anyone is interested in comparing. The blue line is FPS at each time unit and the black line represents a moving average with a period of 60 readings. I'm not sure at what interval FRAPS stores the FPS-data so the scale of the time-axis is somewhat strange. Just consider it as 1=start and 1192=end =D ----------- I'm planning on adding results from runs with default settings HIGH and MEDIUM as well in case there is some prospective buyer finding this thread in the future with a setup as old as mine =) I'll add them here when I've got the time.

    Free rep day!

Doesn't this (lovely) friend-repping ruin a perfectly good rep-system on the forums? .... Never mind me, I was just thinking out loud...
  14. I'm looking forward to all these campaigns! Keep up the work and push yourselves to the limit. I'm sure all of them will be great
  15. It's obvious our human eating disorders have reached to upper parts of the sea.... =D
  16. I'm on a 20.1" 16:10 Wide format LG L204WT @ 1680x1050 and it's actually quite good. I've got it on an Ergotron Neo-Flex adjustable monitor stand because of the crappy standard one that came with it.
  17. I had this issue as well! In the end I left all my ideas of programming the stick from inside Lock On and set all keys using the profiler.
  18. This is almost too good to be true. Guys, we have an all out sim-rebirth! DCS series was tugging along and is looking to be better by the day, and now three nice fellows join in. amagad.
  19. Hmm.... there are some things missing from the cockpit I'd say.. Who wants to fly a bird like that without RWR? ;)
  20. I'd love to join in for that, but unfortunately I really don't have time for this until at best, middle of november. I'm swamped with work and exams and just in the middle of moving to a new apartment. I'll join the group to keep up to date with events, but surely count me in sometime! =D
  21. Yeah, I keep remembering how it was when I was doing my military service, running around with all the combat gear and that bastardly heavy, always-in-my-way, AK5 in my hands. Game beats reality for sure ;)
  22. It's actually quite interesting this thing because I hardly ever get motion sickness from games, but put me in an airplane or on a boat (or even on buses or trains) I'm totally wasted from motion sickness trying to do anything but sit entirely still and focus on not feeling ill. I noticed the headbobbing and weapon movement was a bit over the top maybe, but so far nothing that gives me motion sickness. About them connection problems: no, so far I've only had one quick match that tried to connect but failed. All others have worked out just fine. The most annoying thing with online multiplayer is the fact that everyone has to press ready to get the mission started. The no join in progress as well...
  23. I cursed my guts out over not being able to see what firemode i was using in hardcore. Figured out you can scroll your mousewheel to see both firemode and other equipment even in hardcore. Still not perfect though, since you have to stand still while it is open... =/ Still love the game though! Have had several hours of pure fun in coop with a couple of friends this weekend. Black shark will have to wait until I move to my new place before I go through the process of connecting the hotas etc... Helicopter flying in OFDR so far is ... arcade. Still gets you from point A to B with rockets on top though! =)
