As primarily a Viper Driver - mentioned here for context - I am satisfied with what ED is putting out here. I think Nick's Hoggit post addressed the most important feature here - which is that in both the F/A-18 and F-16 we at least get to fly them. There is so much we can't do, so much that is frustrating because we paid money to do it - but the alternatives I think would go down even less popularly: not have them until completed, or worse, "done" incomplete and inaccurately. The later part of that is illustrated in the ATFLIR issue - another developer might just say you have the TGP so that's what you're getting. The demand here is intense and critical - with the alternatives non-existent. If ED doesn't deliver the F/A-18 to the degree we expect of them what are we going to do? Go fly it in Warthunder? On the Viper - yea it sucks so much is missing. I'll wait. I'll wait until it is done because I want it done right. I want it accurate. I own the Hornet, and someday when I pick that up to learn I want that correct too. ED could fake it, call it "done" and have it out by the end of the summer. Not only would we all be pissed, but we simply wouldn't have anywhere to turn to (BMS as the closest option). I'll continue to give ED my money, even for EA products. If we want it done sooner, let's start paying $100 per module so a larger staff can tackle it. Lets start paying subscription fees too I suppose. For what we are paying, and for what we are getting - the future looks bright. Even if we have to wait a little bit longer.

Thanks ED for the solid work! Agree with Santus if we could get the .psd's for the tanks & pylons. Also the weathering on the leading edges for the tail and wings are devoid of weathering which doesn't seem as noticeable on the default USAF Superiority pattern, but the moment you go away from that it stands out. I can do my own blending but if you guys got the chance to throw that in the "official" it would probably help make the Viper look as sharp as possible. Thanks again for the solid work.

My recommendation is fly the mission and land as you want to - then save the flight recording, and record the landing from the deck out of the flight recording.

Latest from Leadnap Gaming from Joint Task Force 1's "Operation Liberty" and the 6th mission in the campaign which was flown on March 29th, 2020. Over 65 players strapped in to execute the mission. (Sorry the in-forum player is messing up, just head over to YT at the link below)

Sorry Dee-Jay I missed your reply when I wrote my second one. Thanks so much!

Okay I am fairly certain I figured this out - literally a light for the AAR door … can anyone confirm?

Been working on AAR with the Viper and hell it would be nice to be able to bind the F1 key to a HOTAS button so I can maintain controls while requesting pre-contact with the KC-135. Having to take my hand off the HOTAS to do something that IRL is done by voice is a royal pain. Can't see why we couldn't get programmed in the ability to bind the F1, F2, F3... keys. Mods feel free to take this from Viper to just DCS wish-list. Just made sense because I've never struggled like this to maintain a close formation on the tanker except with the Viper. Thanks!

Hey guys - what does this knob control do? Can't find shit in the manual for it? On that note - is there a way to reduce the dampened effect for the FLCS when the AAR door is open? Thanks in advance! -Lead

I currently use a T16K - I actually use the left and right of the hat buttons on the stick for modifiers (since on the one hand they are "less" useful, and two this allows me to always have a hand on the stick while I hold the mod key, can use the throttle hand to hit the keys on the base of the stick). As far as layouts no joy, I don't fly any of the modules you do, but I can send you an excel document I use to map my keys so I can easily see what I mapped them to. Just pm me if you want it.

Your Thoughts: Is the F-16 Worth Time Investment Now, or Just Wait
Leadnap replied to flameoutme's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
My $.01 (saving one of the pennies for later!) To begin with, I primarily fly the Viggen, and while I've dabbled in the A-10C and AV8B the F-16 is really in my stable to be my primary modern multi-role. I could go to the F-18, but it just doesn't captivate me like the F-16 does. Crunching the basics of start up, take off, and flight has been fun in the F-16. It is by no means "ready" for real simulation yet, but by that token neither am I on it. What has been useful about flying it "today" has been familiarization with where everything is, and the sort of mentality different controls are built around (take the auto-pilot system for example). Now if you are already flying US built stuff all the time this probably has far less value - but if you fly other frames primarily, there is value today - of course be careful of the bad-reps issue in that certain elements are not correctly modeled now so certain elements are poor lessons. What caught me off guard, and my real reason to write this, was the reverse effect of strapping into the F-16. I went and purchased the MiG19. Flying the Viper clued me in that while I enjoy the fancy tools and what not, I also grew a hankering for something that was all pilot. I don't think (based on flying some of my other "older" modules) I would have appreciated what I now have from the -19 had I not done that. The Viper is primarily making the avionics work for you, the damn thing near flies itself. Mastering that will be fun as the Viper develops further. In the interim, it lead me to (re?) discover some of the modules where flying comes first. I suppose that also gives me something to work on while I wait for the Viper to fill out. You already purchased it, no harm in doing a few fam flights, just don't expect perfection and you'll be happy. -
What to use for radar nav fixes aside from coasts?
Leadnap replied to LastRifleRound's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
You can do a visual fix on them however. I've used lakes and rivers too, though technically a "coast line." -
Hi Guys, One of my favorite F-16 histories is of course the IDFAF attack on Osirak - and from a virtual pilot perspective I think the mission is quite captivating. I've been working on a version myself on the PG map with an emphasis on the more rigorous elements of the sortie: fuel management, low level flight, timing, and duration. While the actual CCIP bombing portion (the part I think most DCS pilots care about) is pretty cut and dry. I am curious if there is legitimate demand for this sort of mission? If so I'll work on making it multi-player friendly, and perhaps expand it out to a few missions. If not I'll make it for myself and call it a day. Thanks! -Lead

All weather / zero visibility capabilities
Leadnap replied to GoosemanF7's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I've been working on one that encompases all the Radar features, The TA radar is primarily designed to be used in the 15k range though the A Scope view of the plot is the intended and most "useful" means, which of course depends on the pilot grasping how to comfortably read the A Scope plot. This is because the A Scope doesn't condense the returns nearest the aircraft - in the TA mode, the most critical area of all. It's no different than an instrument flight? -
First, I would die for a B1-B and have hopes eventually (one day, like when my 3 year old is flying in DCS). That said I would also almost die for an F111 which is probably more likely.

Definite help - was offsetting the _ for a -. Noticed this does kill off the original "standard" livery from ED though?
-
Put me down for one... price depending but willing to spend regular HOTAS money... Would like it to include the detents of course; I don't mind extra added base controls either way.
-
Pretty sure they did a hot fix - repair utility torrented a new file and its working! Watch out Caucuses because another F-16 is about to leave the deck.
-
I redownloaded this am with a clean install as well.
-
Yep... repaired and re-installed. Nada. Darkness like the hole in my heart where a Viper should be
-
Hope that is true, since if we have to make it my birthday present we're all waiting until the 12th! I know they updated the thread and that's great - but seriously - how about a news announcement on the ED website's news section. I need to know if I should put off seeing the doctor or not!

I just did a bunch of rocket runs and had no issues.

Not to many are flying the AJS37 these days since the F-14B came out, but enjoy the show and maybe scratch that new itch that is jumping in that Saab again - or for the first time!

I've not forgotten... just an FYI.

Working on a little scenario in the PG map and my waypoint read me a target QFE of "843." Now that seems really high to me, but it has been that way every time I ran the scenario, and the target is in the mountains. However the QFE doesn't extend that high on the main altimeter. Never thought of the mountains of Northern Iran being so tall... I am chalking this one up to operational constraint - one of those scenarios where the Viggen's imposed limits are based on Scandinavian Area of Operations, and once you put it in a different AO the limits smack you in the face (like operating west of the prime meridian... ) though I figured I would also check here to see if this was a bug?
