  1. To get country X liveries the plane must be country X.
  2. Thanks for page file tips. ~ Second the SSD endorsement. I went for the cheapest SSD I could find (from well known manufacturer). Idea, right or wrong (I researched a bit): There's no point chasing the fastest possible SSD because 1) they differ so little it isn't worth paying 2-3 times as much 2) any SSD is vastly faster than platter drives. With the "Macrium Reflect" (free) one can transfer the hard disk image to SSD. No need to start from scratch, reinstalling operating system etc ... Steady fps will not / did not improve. Stutter from HD access will improve immensely. It'll next to go away.
  3. Ships AI. Ships unable to reach max speed - fixed. Finally Stennis can go 30 knots (quick look saw 29) instead of max 26. I've been trying that for two years, Kuznetsov does 32 instead of 28 (quick look shows 31). Option is added to go to first waypoint SP (Starting Point?, which you couldn't do before. Last waypoint is now named DP (Destination Point?). In Mission Editor (ME) down arrow increase speed, up arrow decrease speed. Don't think it did that before. Don't really care minor. Steamed a couple of minutes. Not accelerating. Max speed in ME is one knot less than settable.
  4. List of *my* tags. Some of which I has second thoughts about and changed, except other people used them, so now they exist. I put an asterisk "*" on tags I changed my mind. Object oriented, saved here. no need to save on my PC. As done entirely manually, post by post, unlikely to update soon, if ever. 5. Wut? What's missing? Besides proper cooling modeling (most likely) Pitot is troubled all warbirds,
  6. Spoke to soon. Problem still here. Snapviews gets saved with the mission file (.miz), blocking "core" snapviews saved anywhere else. The fix is as Rudel states, open the .miz file archive with some tool, WinRAR or 7zip and delete the config folder. I still don't get why and when it decides to save snapviews in the miz file. I didn't notice problems for a long while because ... ???, but just now noticed the Bf 109 snapviews was wrong, deleted the config folder inside .miz file and got my preferred snapviews back. How did this NOT happen with the P-51 or Spitfire? No idea. Maybe it depends on when snapviews are first saved? In multiplayer or offline?
  7. If you search there's tons of youtube videos. That's where I went after getting frustrated with the official training missions. Some are listed in Module Specific Tutorials. The loose controls customizations should not happen. I wonder if it could be the same issue I had with snapviews. Snapviews gets saved with the mission and the saved mission snapviews override the plane associated snapviews that still exist and show up fine in multiplayer. Find what Rudel wrote: This specifically happens in INSTANT MISSIONS also. Unless changed you don't have "your" snapviews in INSTANT MISSIONS. I still don't know what caused snapviews to be saved with missions. I've created any number of missions since then without having the problem as outlined in that thread again (except for the canned INSTANT MISSION).
  8. I edited out the ROTOL doc comment above out because it was wrong. I think I grasp it better now: ROTOL doc Updated at least to 1951. Seems to be only about propellers for Mk VII, VIII and IX. Pdf pages of interest: -PDF 3 "NOTES TO READERS" - explains the document, kind of. -PDF 4 "ROTOL EQUIPMENT FOR SPITFIRE Mk VII, VIII & IX AIRCRAFT" - List of contents, 6 "PART"'s. PART 1.xx seems to be non-feathering props. Part 2.x includes Spitfire IX ("non-feathering" subtitle stops occurring) -PDF 5 "LIST OF EQUIPMENT" - names Spitfire IX, Merlin 66 propeller as "R.12/4F5/4", spinner as "4CM/4" & governor as "CGR/1A". -PDF 35 "PART 2.02 PROPELLER -/4F5/-" - First page of PART 2.xx. All props in the 4F5 series?. Names ROTOL ref 7282 as detailing the "R.12/4F5/4" propeller. Note the 4 digit ROTOL references (like 7284, 7001, 7124) does NOT reference specific pages, they're like document categories, they can and do appear on multiple pages. ROTOL states them "internal use only" but they were the only way I managed to navigate ... -PDF 48 PROPELLER R.12/4F5/4 - 35 degree pitch range stated along with other specifics (weight, diameter ...) The last document (PDF 48). decided to not inflict all of them. The Spitfire IX, Merlin 66 propeller details. Maybe if i scour the rest of the 298 pages for category 7282 I'll find something explicit about feathering, maybe in a governor section (or not, (Pdf 5) "For details of the CGR/1A Governor Unit apply to Rotol Limited").
  9. Not a bug (I think). Looks DCS Spitfire IX has prop feathering. Note prop angle indication "57" lower right corner (that new?). If I read the 298 pages ROTOL docs right ... the angle arc is 35 degrees. Minimum indicated "angle" in DCS is "20", max angle is "57". 37 degrees, close enough? (edited out stuff abt ROTOL docs that was wrong) Simple ground feathering experiment: Spawn and idle, rpm lever max forward. Prop angle 20'. Pull RPM lever back a bit, nothing, keep pulling back ... at 97.5% pulled back (15974/16384 * 100), that's the feathering threshold. Now it climbs to 57 and returns to 20 when pushed forward over the threshold again. ROTOL doc is a lot. It did talk about non-feathering props at one point so ... there's feathering props to.
  10. Never seen that before. Maybe it's old. Used to be, fly through power lines, nothing happens (power line tower strike has always been a thing). What's new? Visible flash on power line strike (nice touch), propeller vibrates whole plane (only apparent at low speed) but engine doesn't stop. Big chunks of three blades gone. New damage graphic(?), all four blades damaged on ground strike(at least in old 2.5.6). Someone (me?) will use the track, take control and see if and how much top speed is reduced and whine if it isn't. spitpowerlines.trk
  11. Indeed. Do not delete keyboard bindings. I generally don't delete HOTAS bindings either. There's not terribly many. I find it simpler to just scroll down, reassign maybe half a dozen to my favorite HOTAS switches and buttons, disregarding the rest. Analog axis is simpler. The joystick gets the right analog bindings next to always. Just remove the erroneous bindings. I always get pitch and roll besides rudder to the pedals. Go through every binding, make very sure there's no conflicts. Meaning analog pitch, roll, rudder, throttle etc ... each has one and only one binding. When editing keyboard bindings (very few), on pain I avoid deleting anything, I'd rather just "ADD", keeping whatever multi-key combination is default assigned.
  12. Added to my collection. I will read ... a bit ... for fun. Almost posted a Bf109 constant speed link from that website but images were gone. Tested, P-51 doesn't drop below 1600 (green arc). I'll probably make a bug thread in a while.
  13. Looked up how rpm regulation works. Spring loaded flyweights. Two links: Hamilton , really simplified here. Spring loaded flyweights are obviously linear. To make it non-linear one would need to add some extra mechanical bits. Maybe opening / closing an oil valve at levers lower end or something. So either dropping below 1800 is a part of the Spitfire prop design or it's a bug. As long it has enough throttle it should stick at 1800.
  14. Neat if true but is it more than your speculation? Also, why would the Griffin mechanism be non - linear? Non - linearity would require some extra mechanism. I could imagine some simple "brake wire" thing to prevent <1800 ever set accidentally. Seems something the halfwits-up-front would need. Interestingly later version Spitfire IX had same/similar feature (throttle - rpm interconnection ie). Seems ours is "early" (Pilot's notes Spitfire IX, XI, XIV.pdf). I'm curious, I've never seen the "override lever", doesn't seem to be pictured in this source.
  15. Indeed "PILOT*S NOTE'S for SPITFIRE IX, XI, XVI" says (pdf): but a "Pilot's Manual for SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE IIA and IIB" says: (this is provided by Zeno's Warbirds, it's a little produced in that it's converted to searchable text). Couldn't easily find it in my photocopied slightly different "original" IIA and IIB pilots manual pdf. A Griffon manual "Seafire 45 & 46" says "2,750 down to below 1,800".
  16. The tutorial is rigid and scripted. Must redo every step every time. I skipped it after a while and found some youtube videos instead. Nothing essential one can't get elsewhere.
  17. Used to think 1600 was an extremely low. No, it was a used setting. DCS manual states: and also from a book, a homecoming panicky Spitfire over London "I got 7 gallon!". Flight leader: "You can break formation, set 1700 rpm Boost 4 and go home". Also discussed, 1 lb 2650 rpm gives the same speed as 4 lb and 1700 rpm (but the latter will save 7 gallons an hour *1). ~ I find I can set 1800 rpm and I can set 1200 rpm but nothing in between. Thought at first RPM-lever problem but running Thrustmaster "Target Script Editor" -> "Device Analyzer" (scale of 0-I6384) I can see that RPM-lever setting: 15974 -> 1200 rpm and 15972 -> 1800 rpm at both 0 boost or 4+ boost. Made a chart. RPM-lever is readout Thrustmaster "Target Script Editor" -> "Device Analyzer". Never mind the dropping line, the interesting part is the linearity (lack thereof after ~15970). By "throttle" I actually mean RPM lever (chart below). Anyone run Release version? A simple test might be interesting. Can 1600 be set with pre 2.7 version? ~ *1) Not a typo, flying slow as you can is NOT the most fuel or range efficient, this war time memo emphasizes, because of dynamics of slow speed drag.
  18. What is wrong?
  19. Disregard (or delete). Correction. Used "Takeoff from ground" and just realized this is a free placement tool (I think). I need to move it. Crammed between buildings. Tested F-86 and P-51. Same. Suffice to say, damaged on spawn (it's a cold spawn, so no engine-on-run-away).
  20. "all warbirds are affected"
  21. Does it happen offline? In multiplayer lots of planes gets semi submerged occasionally (way before 2.7). Not Dora specific.
  22. Been wondering about this behavior. Like, should you keep advancing throttle to keep power up until supercharger kicks in while climbing? Ok, the MP jump on supercharger kick in, that's how it worked. http://www.aviation-history.com/engines/merlin.htm
  23. I've been wondering about this behavior. Stumbled over this just now. http://www.aviation-history.com/engines/merlin.htm
  24. Force feedbacks pedals. Would love that but ... Given how powerful both legs are compared to a joystick hand these would need to be powerful and very robust. Which equals expensive. Anyway when diving at good speed a powerful experience I recall is how the minutest stick movement translates to instant changes in G forces. Smooth and minute movements or get very uncomfortable.
