Hi Sohei, Not doubting you, just wondering what your source is on the two weeks time frame? Cheers.
-
In addition to the issues around delays. There’s the little issue of DCS VR improvements probably being required to run 4.6 gazillion pixels at whatever frame rate can be achieved. Seems an unlikely prospect without it.

I did a online chat with HP sales here in Australia, at least they’re claiming to be in Australia. They were aware of the Reverb and had been asked by others when it would be released. They’ve checked and there is no word from management. I’m choosing to look at this optimistically, if it was a huge production fault or delay, common sense would say that they should let their customers know something. If on the other hand it was something like a distribution problem that could be solved within a matter of days then I wouldn’t necessarily bother. Keep them waiting could cause a bit of extra hype, hey, who would have thought! If it gets released this week, in a months time the delay will be forgotten but the hype will still be there. Machiavellian, perhaps, cynical definitely, but that’s my view.

Current gen VR resolution SUXX!! Any hope..?
Willie Nelson replied to pappavis's topic in Virtual Reality
IRL and at 45 years of age I struggle to see other airliners at anything further than 10 miles unless they’re leaving contrails or I know exactly where to look. Even TCAS sometimes isn’t enough to help me out. -
Acer jumps on the hi res VR bandwagon...
Willie Nelson replied to Tinkickef's topic in Virtual Reality
Anyone know what Acer is like in this space? It looks on the face of it the same as the HP Reverb. Exciting times indeed. -
For sure, same. Here’s a pretty good review of the HP Reverb too. The product manager indicates that they’re looking at this being a worldwide release too. Perhaps Australia can be brought in to the the 21st century this time and they could send us some.

So it seems that DCS is not utilising the benefits of ASW 2.0 at this point because there is not the depth data required, yet. Nevertheless, there seems to be some improvements on Oculus 1.37. Does anyone know for certain if the new terrain data improvements that WAGS has discussed elsewhere (coming soon) will have this depth data provided?

I’m pretty excited about the new and upcoming HMD options, including the Pimax 5k+. I’m going to make a pretty careful decision because I’ve put my neck out, literally, while dogfighting in the Hornet. 110 degrees FOV suuuuucks! Usually your peripheral vision will easily pick up something that is precisely on your six, the CV1 will not unless you really put some twist on your neck and I’m 45 and it’s not as easy as it used to be. Even twisting my hips makes it difficult. Even an extra 10 degrees would go a ling way toward fixing the issue, I’m going to have to be very patient.
-
Sounds like a good start, I’m pretty happy. I’m guessing we’ll need it for the Reverb, Cosmos, Pimax and whatever else may come out this year.
-
Ok, I see. I guess we’ll find out more soon in any case. The proof will be in the pudding and perhaps Vulcan will not be relevant for a while. Appreciate your help.
-
Ok but this is a terrain fix only at this stage AFAIK. Can we imply that Vulcan is likely to come later? I’m currently only pushing a CV1 off a 2080ti there is no problems worth worrying about but there is more likely to be on one of the newer HMD’s even with this shader mod, I guess?
-
Can anyone explain in layperson’s terms what the difference between these terrain fixes and a potential Vulcan api are? Not to be too sceptical of Wags but I’m confused. If it’s been a terrain issue in large part then should we not have expected excellent performance in Bluewater territory?
-
Ye of little faith, I know everyone is impatient for these things, I get it but the expectations that ED exceeded so far in what they have delivered lends itself to me trusting them to stick to their word. besides WAGS is on the record for having bought at least a Samsung Odyssey + and a Pimax 5K+, I doubt very much that he would simply try them out say that it's all too hard and walk away.

Hi, I'm Running a Noctura NH-U14S Fan only. I considered doing some CPU overclocking down the track but I haven't seen the justification as yet, perhaps that will change when the HMD is upgraded but I find simplicity appealing. It's a monster fan and takes up a lot of space but seems to be doing the job well.

I got my hands on a second hand Rift consumer version 1 (CV1) only 2 months ago knowing full well that better technology is just around the corner but I have no regrets. It's a bucket load of fun, at least it was until my RTX packed it in recently. It's certainly enough to keep me going till I get my card replaced and have a chance to look at the HP Reverb and at least the specs of Valve's new cosmos too (on the 1st of May) Not yet ruling out the Pimax 5k+ either. Seems to be too demanding to run at the full field of vision however by all accounts it's pretty spectacular at 130 degrees lateral field of vision. I've still got a pretty sore neck from clearing my six while going toe to toe with some baddass bandits. The Pimax wider FOV may become more realistic when DCS gets optimised for VR in the medium term future. Certainly thought pixels per degree seem to be highest in the HP Reverb. The remaining question of course is whether or not running 4.6 million pixels in one GPU from the year 2019 is possible. We'll soon find out.
-
My bad, right you are. Thanks for your help.
-
Hi Top Jockey, did the problem persist for you? I’m getting the same problem albeit I’ve only ever been on DCS 2.5. I’m also using a rift and I:getting the BSOD with a suggestion that the nvlddmkm.sys might be associated with the failure.
-
Hey Impalor, I’m having this problem mid game after perhaps fifteen minutes. I’ve updated all drivers uninstalled and reinstalled Oculus and done and I’ve done a Windows fresh install and no joy, any suggestions?
-
Thanks for that. Sounds promising indeed. I’ll stick with the CV1 Tift for now but I’ll be watching this space closely. Hopefully they’re going to sell in Australia. Can’t get many of the decent HMD down here off the shelf, in fact I can’t think of any that don’t need to be shipped directly from OS.
-
Ok thanks all. Will the 45FPS be requiring some iteration of reprojection to get it to resemble 90fps? Thoughts.
-
Is not to doubt your expertise in the matter wormeaten but is that the general consensus from others who know about this? I struggle to keep up with all of the technicalities of this VR caper because I have a full time job and a wife and two kids but I’m trying to get a sense of which MHD to look at in to the future. I like the idea of the wide FOV with the Pimax 5k+ but the HP Reverb could be a much better image if DCS can push the pixels.
-
I think I understand what you’re saying regarding the PD versus screen resolution. Are you suggesting that something like the COSMOS, assuming a 2160 x 2160 resolution without any changes to pixel density would be adequately run on something like my RTX? Moreover, would it be successfully run by my RTX with DCS? That’s a screen resolution of more than 4 million pixels per eye! Is that a realistic expectation for DCS if we simply leave pixel density as is? Forgive the inane questions, there’s so much I have to learn.
-
To what degree is this simply a function of Pixel power? That is to say that There’s only so many pixels DCS can push out under the current software. Until that changes wanting massive resolution and FOV may be pointless. Just saying.
-
I know that the Leap Motion add on to Pimax is the second iteration of LM and has some substantive improvement on the first which had difficulty living up to expectations. Interesting to see the Wags now has both the Samsung Odyssey + and the Pimax 5k+ presumably to help us all move on to better VR performance. For the time being I’m happy enough with the Rift but I’ll be watching closely for Wags to assist us further in this space, after all it’s not like he doesn’t have an appreciation for the VR immersion himself. Difficult job being responsible for the quality control and reputation of DCS and at the same time wanting to to do some high res, high performance stonking around in the Hornet!

Rift tracking problem after commencing new session
Willie Nelson replied to Willie Nelson's topic in VR Bugs
Solved! “Fly again” will not work in VR at least not with a Rfit. That is all.
