There’s a song by Paloma Faith called “Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful”. I always think of my Oculus when I hear that line.

I said it in another forum post: If you’re a simmer, VR is for you. If you’re a gamer, VR is probably not for you. I was never into competitive gameplay. I’ve always just enjoyed the experience of flight. I once had a TrackIR and I sold it.

Were these bugs ever fixed? I downloaded the Campaign last month. I played this mission yesterday and also never got a debriefing and will have to replay it. I wasn’t able to destroy the moving targets in time, so I don’t mind replaying it. I kind of liked flying off the instruments in the dark anyway :)

Hammerfall Op 3
GTFreeFlyer replied to cobragva's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Old topic, but I just played it for the first time this weekend. Once I was in the valley leading up to the target, I created an overhead mark point. I flew down the valley for 2-3 miles and created another mark point. Whenever I went above the clouds to do my bombing, I would always dive back down between the two mark points, and at the same heading as the two mark points. I ended up in the valley, clear of terrain each time. Neat trick, and a way cool VR experience. I figured it out and found the SAM on my 3rd attempt of the mission. MANPADs got me the first two times. I flew into Russian airspace every time, lol. I can avoid the terrain, which is visible, but apparently can’t avoid entering another country. This was my favorite mission so far. I think I’ll remember this one for years to come. Popping in and out of the clouds and really having to work with the terrain was just as much a challenge as destroying the targets. Very well balanced between stick-and-rudder flying and deploying weapons. -
I found out the hard way, but you’ll also need a nice HOTAS with lots of buttons. Whatever you can do to remove the keyboard from the experience is almost a requirement in VR. After I spent a lot of cash on a new PC and the Oculus, I thought I was done. Nope, had to go buy the Warthog HOTAS for another $400+ Lots of people also use voice commands to replace the keyboard. I would really like to, but I’m always playing at night when others are sleeping.

Exactly what I’m looking for. Would be nicer with more vehicles, but this will do for now. Going to add it to the kneeboard!
-
I'm looking for a catalog of vehicles/objects (with pictures), maybe even a short description of what they are capable of. When flying and told to attack a SA-13, or whatever it might be, I really have no idea what I should be looking for, especially if it's surrounded by lots of other vehicles then I have no idea which one to target. Where can I study up on these targets? I'm sure I'll know most of them as I gain more experience, but for now, I'm still just a noob. Thanks!

Has anyone moved the kneeboard in VR to appear as if it’s actually on your knee? What settings do I change? I’m in the A-10C in case that matters (I know, no pilot body in VR, but would still like the kneeboard down low so I look down at it.) Thanks.

Hmm, ok. I'm a little illiterate when it comes to that. Is open.beta something else I need to download? From DCS's main menu, I had clicked on Module Manager, then at the top I clicked on the Available DLC tab. TEW 3.0 was at the top of the list. I clicked on "buy" and followed through the store on the website to purchase and install it. How long do you suppose until the next update comes along? I can continue with the prior version for the time being. I probably won't be back in the pit for a few days anyway. Thanks again. -

Totally just purchased it as promised. Just tried installing it and got the message as shown in the attachment. Also got the following error log that opened up... 00000.016 --- Log file: C:\DCS World\autoupdate_log.txt 00000.000 === Log opened UTC 2019-02-01 03:50:36 00000.010 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.9.6.79 (Windows NT 10.0.17134; Win64; en-US) 00000.010 INFO : cmdline: "C:\DCS World\bin\dcs_updater.exe" --apply install BALTICDRAGON_A10C-ENEMY_WITHIN_3_campaign 00000.012 STATUS: Initializing... 00000.015 INFO : basedir: C:\DCS World 00000.016 INFO : DCS/2.5.4.26552 (x86_64; EN; WORLD,A-10C,A10C-TTQ_campaign,A10C-AAT_campaign,A10C-BFT_campaign,BALTICDRAGON_A10C-ENEMY_WITHIN_campaign) 00000.016 INFO : branch: 00000.016 STATUS: Connecting to update servers... 00001.225 INFO : Got reply from http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com 00001.686 INFO : Got reply from srv11update.digitalcombatsimulator.com 00001.689 STATUS: Verifying cached version info... 00002.080 STATUS: Preparing to install BALTICDRAGON_A10C-ENEMY_WITHIN_3_campaign ... 00002.433 ERROR: Unknown module BALTICDRAGON_A10C-ENEMY_WITHIN_3_campaign 00061.973 === Log closed. Any ideas? My account page shows that it is purchased, and when I launched the software, it automatically recognized the new campaign was purchased and prompted me to download it. I clicked ok, then got the error as mentioned above. -

Thanks for the reply. I think I’m spending more than $8 worth of my time just asking questions, so I’ll be sure to buy 3.0 later when I’m back at home, whether I ever play it or not. But in the meantime, a few more questions :) -Have you tested it in VR? -Any known bugs? -Are there different kneeboard items in each mission? -Sometimes my kids watch me play. Any bad language in the voiceovers, or would it be kid friendly? I have no problems kicking them out of the room (like when Game of Thrones is in season), just wanted to know beforehand. -Will my wife miss me? -

Just bought last month and now on mission 6. I’ve never played any other campaign so I have nothing to compare it to, but I’m loving it. So should I stop right now and restart with 3.0, or keep going? I’ve seen previews for Piercing Fury and immediately noticed it has way more voice acting and dialogue and I really like that for the immersion aspect. Will probably be my next campaign. If 3.0 has that, I’ll buy before continuing to Mission 6. I’m not too invested at this point since it’s still early. If you want my $8 now, just tell me :). Otherwise I’ll continue enjoying what I already enjoy. Just looking for an honest opinion. Thanks for contributing to this amazing experience. Words aren’t enough. -
Ah ok. When you mentioned it was for VR users I had imagined that it was automatically filling out the card for you as JTAC calls it out. I’m trying to be keyboard-free in VR. If it was automatic and added it to the knee board, I’m in. Appreciate the hard work and the video. Thanks.

Tanks... use gun... I’ll send my least favorite wingman, lol.

Do you have any video of this in action? I’m interested to know more.

You actually have excellent memory. Perhaps your recall sucks :)

Now that I’ve been trying this for a few days, I think I found the fix to engines not starting properly with the TMWH... Just make sure that when you start the sim, the throttles are in the idle position. After you’re in the cockpit, move them to the cutoff position, then start your engine start sequence. It doesn’t like when I load into the sim with throttles in the cutoff position. It’s been working 100% of the time since I started doing this.

Check out some Youtubes. It helped me a lot. Check out the Youtube playlist below. Lots of excellent stuff by Bunyap. On the Range Tutorial Series Username: Bunyap Sims You seems to be new to DCS just like me. I’m finally starting to get the hang of it. Ever want to try out some multiplayer? I play usually around 9-11 PM PST. I’ve never tried before.

I thought FPS was capped at 45fps. Are you really getting 90? I’ve got a RTX2080 and it seems to just stay right at 45. When not in VR, I get between 160-190 FPS.
-
I’ve also got the CH pedals. Everything was plug and play. No setup required. Here’s a tip for the TM Warthog I found helpful: On the stick, set up the pinky lever (not the pinky switch used for NWS and laser) as a modifier. Now you can hold the lever down and reuse all of the switches of your HOTAS for other functions. You’ve now just doubled the amount of functions you can do with the HOTAS which comes in very handy when trying to stay away from the keyboard while you are flying in VR. For example, on the throttle there is a landing gear warning silence button, but if I hit it while holding in the pinky lever, it raises/lowers the landing gear. Also, I propose we stop referring to flying DCS in VR. I always tell my wife I’m going to fly in DR... Desired reality!

Me too. Too much of an immersion break to look at the map.

Excited when I saw a new update was available. Disappointed when the change log had nothing about the A10. We keep hearing stuff is in the works, but no details yet. Wags is pretty good about mini updates in the F18 forum. Any chance we can get something similar for the A10, or should I start looking for another plane?

Need some advice on warthog

Do you have a Fry’s near you? They sometimes carry them. MicroCenter too. -
Thanks for the note about the emergency brake. I just assumed it was a physical cable down to the calipers rather than hydraulics, just in case you lost all hydraulics. I swear I played a mission where I landed, all battle-torn, without any pressure in the brake lines. Aircraft was only slowing down due to air brakes and general drag and friction. As I approached the end of the runway at high speed, I pulled the e.brake at the last moment and the aircraft came to a sudden halt only a few feet off the end of the runway. So what happened there? Just trying to understand how that system worked out for me. Funny but true story... I have a pilot’s license and rent Cessnas. My training consisted of me being told to never set the parking brake or pull the handle (opposite of what the checklist says), because the aircraft I rent are “difficult” to reset the parking brakes. I guess they get stuck. So now I’m close to 200 takeoffs and landings and have never once used the parking brake. I sure do stand on those brake pedals though when I start up the engine! This is likely what led to my incorrect statement of using the e.brake in the A-10. I’ve never actually tried it because I’m always standing on the brake pedals when parked. This is what happens when you mix reality and sims. I’m also completely lost in a Cessna without my targeting pod!

Follow the checklist, not just the voice instructions. I didn’t have issues with the startup tutorial, so just try again? Never start up any airplane without holding the brakes. You can pull the emergency brake if you don’t feel like holding the brakes the whole time. It’s producing some thrust, even at idle, and the plane will roll! Make sure your boost pumps are on. That got me once or twice. If it doesn’t spool up properly, try pulling the throttle back to the cutoff, then waiting for it to come to zero RPM, then try the other engine first.
